Chapter 786. Heavenly Fate rankings
Chapter 786. Heavenly Fate rankings
When Kailen arrived at the registration floor, the place was completely quiet.
This was not surprising to him because only new students joined factions. And currently, he was the only new student in the academy since the academy entrance exams would happen a year from now, and he had joined the academy through the NGU recommendation slot. So, it was normal that he was the only one here.
Kailen proceeded to the front desk where a rank 4 novice stage transcendent, another student, a lady from the mermaid race, with blue hair, was seated.
The moment the person saw Kailen, her eyes lit up. It was him, the NGU competition winner.
"Did he decide to join the academic faction? Heh. Those royal faction bastards. I’m sure they wanted to rope him in," she thought. "Naturally, anyone who joins the academic faction does not like to be centralized and restricted. From how he carries himself, he’s not the kind to find the royal faction favorable. Looks like we’ve lucked out this time."
Kailen arrived at where the lady was seated.
"Hello," Kailen said. "Is this where one registers to join the Academic faction?"
She nodded. "Yeah. However, it’s a basic rule to go over some few things to note about the academic faction first, so that you can decide again whether or not you really want to join. I’m sure you already have an overview of the faction from the academy rules. But there are a few things to add."
Kailen nodded. "Sure."
"Alright, no problem," the lady said. "So, the academic faction has a very important ranking list called the Heavenly Fate rankings. The Heavenly Fate rankings has 400 students on it. The ranking is determined based on contribution points. Each of these 400 students have higher contribution points from completing academy missions compared to any other member of the academic faction. The higher your contribution points from completing academy missions, the higher your rank on the Heavenly Fate rankings.
The rankings on the Heavenly Fate rankings are very important. This is because those on the Heavenly Fate rankings get discounts when they are paying with contribution points to have access to secret realms and principle fragment towers.
The higher your ranking, the higher your discount when paying to have access to principle fragment towers and secret realms. Due to this benefit of the rankers, certain secret realms and principle fragment towers that require an astronomical amount of contribution points to access are sometimes accessible by those ranked very high on the rankings because, the prices the high rankers would have payed to have access to those secret realms and principle Fragment towers are reduced due to the discounts."
A glint flashed through Kailen’s eyes as he listened.
As expected, a ranking of this calibre would have its benefits. It seemed he had to get on this ranking.
"Apart from completing missions, is there any other way to get on the rankings?" Kailen asked.
"Not really," the lady replied. "You may have been thinking of death duels right? The academic faction does not want to encourage constant killing among it’s faction members. What do you think would happen if killing someone ranked on Heavenly Fate rankings was a way to get their contribution points and replace them on the rankings?"
A glint of realization flashed through Kailen’s eyes.
"The members would resort to killing each other unnecessary to get on the rankings, and that would cause the faction to lose stability," Kailen replied.
"Exactly," the lady nodded. "Anyway, the royal faction also has a ranking list called the Royal Fate rankings. How it functions is similar to ours. But, with their’s the ranked students don’t have discounts when they want to access the academy’s secret realms and principle Fragment towers. Rather, they have discounts when they want access the royal family’s secret realms and principle fragment towers, which are in the royal region of the city."
Kailen nodded, as he muttered, "This means the members of the royal faction have access to resources of the academy, but without discounts.
They have to follow the normal mission reward system of the academy, just like the members of the academic faction who are not on the Heavenly Fate rankings.
However, the members of the royal faction also follow a centralized, internalized mission rewards system of the royal family. They take on missions for the royal family, complete them, get contribution points from the royal family, with which they can access the resources of the royal faction. However, the top 400 on the Royal Fate rankings, can have discounts when they want to access the Royal Family’s resources."
The lady nodded. "It seems you get the gist of things. This means those in the royal faction get resources from the academy and the royal family at the same time."
Kailen nodded. "However, their system is bound to be very restrictive, although the benefits will be undeniable."
"So," the lady nodded, "after hearing this, do you still want to join the academic faction?"
Kailen nodded.
"Where do I register?"
He did not want the royal faction, and ultimately the royal family, to pry into his personal matters and control him.
He valued his freedom.
The lady nodded.
"I knew you wouldn’t back out heh. Follow me."
Kailen nodded and followed her into a room.
The moment he entered the room, they lady directed him to put his hand on an orb.
A few moments later, a holographic display appeared.
[ Kailen Darkhaven.
Rank 3 novice stage transcendent.
Principle: Space.
Principle comprehension speed: High.
Member certified. Background check done. Verified in Academic Faction database]
The woman was not surprised.
Those with high principle comprehension speed were as numerous as clouds in the academy.
She nodded warmly.
"It’s done. Best of luck."
Kailen nodded politely. "Thank you."
"Sure.. You can visit the academic faction open hub area on the next floor to chill and socialize with the other members if you want," she added. "Also, from now, you can check the Heavenly Fate rankings directly from wherever you are in the academy. No need to even come to the building to check it."
Kailen nodded politely and left the building.
The moment he arrived in front of the building, a crowd had gathered as several individuals were whispering among themselves.
"It’s him. He’s coming out."
"The one the crown prince wants to join the royal faction."
"I wonder what he will say to the crown prince. He’s already joined the academic faction right?"
"The new student?"
"Yeah. The first Transcendent from the light region. The winner of the NGU Competition."
"It looks like the royal family really values him."
"But, can he join the royal faction even if he wants, now that he has joined the academic faction?"
"The royal faction members can be unreasonable. It’s even possible the crown prince will tell him to terminate his registration as soon as possible, and join the royal faction, even when they know it’s not the right thing to do."
Suddenly, someone appeared in front of Kailen.
Kailen recognized him.
This person was famous across the empire.
He was the crown prince of the Empire.
A powerful rank 5 novice stage Transcendent.
He joined the royal faction right when he arrived at the academy, and his rise had been meteoric.
Through his feats, he had been named the crown prince of the empire by the royal family.
Brown hair. Tall, vampiric eyes. Dressed in a Suit.
Prince Daevaris.
"Seems the royal faction is making their move," Kailen sighed inwardly.
It looks like the academy would not be too peaceful for him. He anticipated something like this would happen. But to think they would send the crown prince of all people to try and recruit him.
He was very touched...
