"Watch out!"
There was a slash of light that went past Ikki’s shoulder, but he didn’t do anything to stop it this time.
After all, there was a spike of black ooze that had suddenly come up from the ground.
It was pointed right at his head, as if it wanted to stab right through him.
But before it could reach him, the slash of light hit that black ooze spike and they cancelled each other out.
Following that one spike were other spikes that came at Ikki, but these ones didn’t catch him off guard. These ones were supposed to be frontal attacks that came after he was caught off guard by that one sneak attack.
Since he saw them coming, Ikki just punched out towards them and broke all of those spikes. They didn’t stand a chance against the powerful punches that Ikki threw out, turning into nothingness the moment that they made contact.
However, that wasn’t what Ikki was concerned about.
These spikes weren’t strong enough that they would pose a threat to him, what he was worried about was the kid that the black ooze was coming from.
"Ha, ha, ha, I guess that won’t work."
As soon as this laughter came out of the kid’s mouth, everyone immediately narrowed their eyes to look at the kid.
Looking back up at them, the look on the kid’s face made it very clear what was happening.
"What are you?" Ikki slowly asked this question.
"I’m just a kid from the village, what else could I be?" The kid said in an almost taunting tone of voice.
However, Ikki didn’t say anything as he waited for a proper answer.
After a while, the kid’s expression turned serious as he said, "What do you think I am?"
"Are you the Black Tide?" Ikki slowly asked once more.
When the kid responded with a nod, no one was surprised. But when the kid gave a shake of his head afterwards, they couldn’t understand what he meant by this.
"Are you expecting me to explain everything?" The kid said when he saw them looking at him like this.
Hearing this, they couldn’t help knitting their brows.
It was just that there was nothing that they could do, it wasn’t as if the voice was wrong.
They were the enemy, why would they just tell them everything?
"You see it now, right? There’s no saving him, we must finish him off for the sake of the world." Percival said in a firm voice. Though in the first place, it wasn’t as if he had changed his conviction at all.
The only reason that he had stopped attacking was because he had wanted to see what the changes with the black ooze was.
Well, there was a small part of him that had stopped because he didn’t want anything to happen to Ikki either.
Regardless of how their relationship seemed to be, Ikki was still one of the heroes that had been chosen. He was still someone that was important to the safety of the entire world and he didn’t want to let him die that easily.
But now that things had turned out like this, there really was nothing else that could be said.
"Who said that you can’t save him? Who said that the kid is gone?" The same voice taunted Percival.
However, it didn’t seem like Percival let this voice get to him like the others had.
He just simply raised his sword and slashed out at the kid once more.
In response to this, there were several black ooze spikes that came out of the ground and stopped that slash. However, those several spikes weren’t just for taking care of the single slash.
There were other slashes that had come behind it that the other spikes took care of.
While this was happening, the same voice said, "This kid is still in here, I’m just using his body."
Ikki immediately stood in front of Percival once again when he heard this, but there was no need for this as Percival had already stopped his attacks. With the way that Percival looked at the kid, it seemed like he was doubting these words.
At the same time though, it seemed like he wanted to gauge the validity of these words.
After all, there had never been a case of the Black Tide existing with a human at the same time.
If they were able to use this, they might be able to figure out what the Black Tide was and why it was attacking humanity in the first place.
"Then get out of his body right now and we can talk." Percival said in a threatening tone.
It was just that there was no fear at all that appeared on the kid’s face.
"Oh, I’m so scared." The voice said these words, but everyone knew that this was once again nothing more than taunting. It seemed like whoever was controlling the body of the kid really wanted to mess with them.
After thinking about it, Percival finally said, "Suppress it."
As he said this, he swung his sword out once more.
Ikki went to stop him until he realized something that made him stop.
It seemed like what Percival was aiming at wasn’t actually the kid, but the black ooze that was on the ground.
The other heroes naturally realized this as well and knew what Percival was thinking, which was why they also started sending their attacks land around the kid.
They were planning on suppressing the black ooze that came out of him.
It wasn’t as if they were certain of what was controlling the kid, but they knew that it had to be related to the Black Tide for the black ooze to flow out of the kid like this.
In that case, the only thing that they could do was suppress the black ooze that made up the Black Tide.
They were hoping to destroy enough of the black ooze that the kid would be able to break free.
