Chapter 539: Shooting the first bird
Chapter 539: Shooting the first bird
Hermione could not accept Umbridge's teaching method at all, especially with Sirius's example in front of her.
The students' appetites have been spoiled.
This year is the fifth school year, and Defense Against the Dark Arts is a required subject in OWLs, which does not allow for any slacking off.
Gryffindor's unique sense of justice made her unwilling to compromise.
In the original book, Hermione hated Umbridge so much that she changed her name when she found out that her middle name was "Jane", the same as hers.
"It's a good thing you told me in advance, I almost had a conflict with her." Hermione said with lingering fear.
The first bird to stick its head out gets shot. This time, without Harry as the target, the target naturally fell on others.
"You are our friend, so of course we won't let you suffer any loss!"
I was able to dissuade Hermione from openly confronting Umbridge.
Umbridge's way of revenge is very vicious.
Carving words on your hands is the most insignificant form of punishment.
Evil people need to be punished by evil people.
But it’s not worth it to do it yourself.
Ron, also a Gryffindor prefect, was roasted over the fire.
The Gryffindors' anger needed an outlet.
And Ron became the first person to try it out.
He raised his arms shakily in class.
"Mr. Weasley, is there a problem?"
Umbridge pushed up her glasses.
She stared at Ron's red hair, looked at his second-hand school uniform, and gave a standard smirk.
"Well...um...Professor Umbridge, may I ask..." He looked around, as if trying to find supporters.
But he found that all the Gryffindor students who had been encouraging him lowered their heads.
For fear of getting into trouble, everyone deliberately keeps a distance from him.
"What, Mr. Weasley?"
Umbridge pretended to be confused.
"What I want to say is... can we add some practical steps? In the past, our Defense Against the Dark Arts had this step..."
"Mr. Weasley, I am a teacher appointed by Headmaster Dumbledore and will be responsible for the content of my courses. I do not need a fifth-year student from Hogwarts to guide me."
There was a continuous whispering below.
Some students couldn't hold back and almost laughed out loud.
Ron's face flushed.
His voice got lower and lower. "That's not what I meant, Professor...it's just that there will be a practical part in the exam..."
Umbridge rolled her eyes. "Well, Mr. Weasley, let's first see how well you understand the theoretical knowledge. What is the general defense theory?"
Suddenly, the audience fell silent.
Ron was speechless. He had not even opened the textbook.
Umbridge pretended to be disappointed and said, "I specially selected the content of the second chapter. As expected... I have always doubted Headmaster Dumbledore's selection criteria..."
Her eyes deliberately stayed on the prefect badge on Ron's chest for a long time.
"Whether it's teachers or student leaders..."
"Miss Granger, you answer."
Hermione was startled by the sudden call.
As if it had formed muscle memory, Hermione repeated the content of the general defense theory almost verbatim.
"It seems that Professor McGonagall is not always wrong..."
Umbridge pondered for a moment, but still gave Hermione extra points.
Hermione hesitated for a long time, but decided not to add fuel to the fire and continued the topic that Ron had just wanted to start.
Ron's face turned pale. The sharp contrast made him, who always cared about his reputation, embarrassed in front of the Slytherins.
His status as a prefect was not worthy of the title in itself, and now it was publicly confirmed by Umbridge.
