Chapter 270 Xuanzang's suspicion and expulsion of Wukong
Chapter 270 Xuanzang's suspicion and expulsion of Wukong
On this day, after Xuanzang and his party left the Kingdom of Women in Xiliang, they continued their journey westward. For some unknown reason, the conflict between Xuanzang and Sun Wukong became increasingly intense.
It was now late, and the four masters and apprentices planned to stay for one night in a nearby village. The family that took them in had three people, an old man and his wife, and their daughter-in-law. As for the son, no one knew where he had gone to fool around.
What they didn't know was that the bandit leader whom Sun Wukong had teased during the day was actually the old man's son. Late at night, the bandit leader brought his brothers to drink and asked the old man to prepare food. They accidentally discovered the master and his disciples who were staying in their house. The bandit leader wanted to kill Sun Wukong and his brothers, but was stopped by the old man, who secretly let them leave.
When Sun Wukong left, he was very careful. He passed his magical powers on the old man, his wife and daughter-in-law to prevent the foolish bandit leader from hurting them. Although they were family, the bandit leader might have been so angry that he would not recognize his relatives.
Xuanzang and his companions escaped under the cover of night. Xuanzang's face changed along the way. It was exactly the same as in his dream. Could it be that someone was secretly manipulating all this? Let's wait and see. If a fake Monkey King appears and beats him up and steals the pass, then maybe the dream is true. Let's wait and see. Maybe this is just a coincidence. Xuanzang thought to himself as he hurried on his way.
They kept on traveling, and it was almost dawn when the four masters and apprentices stopped to rest. Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie slept on a tree, while Sha Wujing and Xuanzang leaned against a tree to rest.
Nearing noon of the second day, the master and his disciples had rested well and were preparing to continue their journey. Unexpectedly, the son of the family they had stayed at before, the bandit leader they met yesterday, caught up with a group of his followers. They had big swords in their hands and looked at Xuanzang and his friends with ferocious looks.
"You bunch of stinky monks, you are finished today"
As soon as the bandit leader finished speaking, Sun Wukong was awakened instantly, and a trace of anger flashed in his fiery eyes. Zhu Bajie also climbed up with a grunt, muttering: "Who is this blind man who dares to provoke us?" Sha Wujing immediately stood up, tightly grasped the magic staff to protect Xuanzang.
Xuanzang's face was solemn, and his uneasiness became stronger. He looked at the bandit leader and said slowly: "Donor, why are you so angry? We have no ill intentions."
The bandit leader's eyes widened with anger, and he roared, "Stop talking nonsense! You killed my brothers yesterday, and today I will make you pay the price!" After that, he waved his hand, and the bandits under him raised their swords and rushed towards the four masters and apprentices.
When Sun Wukong saw these bandits coming with such force, he felt something was wrong. His mind was completely controlled. It should be the work of Tathagata or Guanyin. However, these bandits were full of karma and had taken countless lives. They all deserved to be killed.
Sun Wukong raised his golden cudgel and swung it, creating a strong wind. Although the bandits were outnumbered, they were immediately terrified by Sun Wukong's might. However, they were controlled and rushed forward like moths to a flame.
"Hmph, since you don't know how to live or die, don't blame me for being rude!" Sun Wukong shouted angrily, and the golden hoop fell like a storm. Each blow contained huge power, beating the bandits to a bloody mess, and all the bandits were killed by Sun Wukong in a short while.
Next, Xuanzang began to blame Sun Wukong according to his memory in the dream, and even threatened to drive him away. Xuanzang looked at the corpses of bandits all over the ground, and his face became more gloomy. He shouted at Sun Wukong: "Wukong, how can you be so cruel and kill innocent people?"
Sun Wukong frowned and said, "Master, these bandits have their minds controlled by others, and they have committed many evil deeds. Their hands are stained with blood. I am just enforcing justice for the heavens."
Xuanzang did not listen to Sun Wukong's explanation and continued to accuse him, "You naughty monkey, you always act impulsively. I think you are wild and unruly, and you are not suitable to travel west with me anymore. Go away, I don't need you anymore."
Sun Wukong's eyes widened in disbelief: "Master, how can you be so foolish? Everything I do is to protect you."
Zhu Bajie quickly advised: "Master, the eldest brother is also thinking about our safety. Those bandits really deserve to be killed, so don't be angry."
Sha Wujing also said: "Master, my elder brother has fought demons and monsters all the way. Even if he has no merit, he has worked hard. You can't just drive him away like this."
But Xuanzang had made up his mind and said, "No need to say more, I have made up my mind. Sun Wukong, you can go now."
Sun Wukong was filled with grief and indignation. He looked at Xuanzang and said, "Master, since you are so heartless, I, Sun Wukong, will leave." Seeing that Xuanzang was so determined, Sun Wukong said nothing more. He bid farewell to Xuanzang, talked a lot with Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing, and then left on a cloud.
Seeing this, Xuanzang turned around, closed his eyes, and a tear flowed out.
"Master, what about us?" Zhu Bajie hesitated.
Xuanzang was silent for a moment, slowly opened his eyes, and said in a slightly hoarse voice: "Keep on your way, don't stop." Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing looked at each other, and saw the helplessness and worry in each other's eyes.
That night, the night was as cold as water. With the departure of Sun Wukong, the task of begging for alms fell on Zhu Bajie. Zhu Bajie left the ruined temple mumbling and went to look for food. On weekdays, it was Sun Wukong who went to beg for alms. He could always find abundant food quickly and would also inquire about the surrounding situation. Now without Sun Wukong, the atmosphere seemed particularly dull.
The three of them rested in a dilapidated temple. The temple had been eroded by the years, with mottled walls and some holes in the roof. The moonlight shone through the holes, adding a cool atmosphere to the whole temple. Xuanzang accidentally caught a cold and his face was as pale as paper. He curled up slightly, leaning against the wall, frowning, and looked very weak.
In the early morning, sunlight shone through the cracks in the doors and windows of the dilapidated temple. Zhu Bajie went out to beg for alms early, and his fat figure gradually walked away in the morning light. Sha Wujing, on the other hand, was concerned about his master's condition and hurried out to find herbs to treat the cold. He searched carefully in the mountains and forests, hoping to find effective herbs as soon as possible to make a pot of medicine for Xuanzang.
Xuanzang stayed alone in the ruined temple, surrounded by silence. His mind was full of worries and uneasiness. He recalled the journey he had taken, and the strange dream. If the dream was true, now would be the most dangerous time. Bajie and Wujing were not around, and he was alone. The monster pretending to be Wukong should be coming soon.
Thinking of this, Xuanzang became more and more nervous. He looked around the temple vigilantly, listening carefully to any slightest movement.
