Chapter 4281 The Spreading Narcolepsy
Chapter 4281 The Spreading Narcolepsy
Chapter 4281 The Spreading Narcolepsy
Shad chose to sit at the outdoor table just in case, but nothing actually happened. The city hall and the garrison at Greyrock Pass had made very comprehensive arrangements for Margaret's security; if infiltration were still possible under such circumstances, the Drinor Zionists wouldn't have failed to accomplish anything significant for so many years.
Even after lunch, Shad didn't leave the table. He only stood up after the royal guards cleared the way and Margaret's carriage had left Greyrock Pass fortress for the city of Arcadia. The warm sun shone on him, and the magical effect of "Praise the Sun" filled him with vitality.
I figured nothing would happen today, at least that's what I thought when Xia De was also preparing to go back.
Vigo deliberately stayed at Grayrock Pass fortress to wait for Shad, but Shad had already visited the patient, so there was no need for him to stay any longer. The carriage then took them back to Fragrant Residence. At two o'clock in the afternoon, an unmarked carriage stopped at the entrance of Fragrant Residence. The blonde girl, still wrapped in a trench coat despite the early summer weather, walked in first, followed by Sylvia.
"Shad!"
Margaret spotted Shad immediately and instinctively wanted to embrace him, but then she remembered that since arriving here, her identity was no longer that of a princess, but a witch's apprentice. She suppressed her longing and bowed to the manor owner beside Shad.
"Good afternoon, Miss Astley."
Margaret, who had been using honorifics with Viggo in the morning, now also used honorifics to address Viggo.
Wei Ge said with a smile:
“Good afternoon, Margaret. Is this the first time we’ve met outside of Parliament? Vanessa is so lucky to have found such an excellent apprentice.”
"If I remember correctly, Vige, your apprentice candidate was also a princess, wasn't she?"
Sylvia asked, then greeted Vigo and hugged Shad:
"Good afternoon, Shad. Is it always this hot here? I remember when we set off by train, it wasn't like this."
"It only got hot today."
Flora emerged from the restaurant at that moment, and Margaret immediately greeted the great witch again. Flora smiled and returned the greeting. The three great witches, each possessing their own unique charm, stood together, while the apprentices exchanged glances. The Witch Council had finally gathered its most basic strength in the Arcadia region.
Flora gestured for everyone to stop talking there:
“Let’s go to Vig’s study. It’s great that we’re all gathered together again. Sylvia, if you don’t have anything else to do, could you stay here with Vig tonight? I’m going to Shad’s house tonight.”
So the witch and the apprentice's gazes all focused on her, and the artist blinked:
“Dannister allowed me to draw her teacher who hadn’t even hatched yet, and I couldn’t miss this opportunity.”
Now, Arcadia City is home to three great witches, along with the followers brought by Flora and Sylvia. This abundance of manpower not only speeds up the investigation of various clues but also allows Shad and the great witches to better monitor the changes throughout the city.
Although Sylvia had been traveling around the eastern part of the battlefield with Margaret all week, she had also been keeping up with the various events happening in the City of Scholars through the council. This afternoon, she didn't need to listen to everyone's stories anymore, but instead discussed the next action plan directly with Flora and Vigo.
Margaret and Miss Bell were official witch apprentices, while Agelina and Eve were apprentice candidates. The four young women gathered together and chatted. Agelina knew everyone, so she introduced Eve, whom she didn't know very well, to Margaret.
Adelina then went on to talk about her recent investigation into the Big-Toothed Sparrow and the missing banknote master. Margaret had already heard about these things from Sylvia, but she didn't know that Adelina had taken charge of almost the entire investigation.
However, Margaret was determined this time not to let her work as a princess distract her from her responsibilities as a witch's apprentice. She didn't want to be the only one busy with those boring things while everyone else was gathered around Shad.
"So, Adelina, some of Miss Astley's and Professor Sylvia's followers will be doing some work for me. Can you handle those tasks as well?"
Margaret asked:
"Aside from events that I must attend in person and decisions that I must make, I don't plan to do things myself, such as writing speeches, browsing intelligence and information, or even meeting with unimportant people."
Adelina nodded slightly. In her opinion, Margaret, who had already arrived in the central ring, really didn't need to be troubled by these matters. Let her, a low-ring witch apprentice, do these things:
"Please leave it to me. Although I have never handled these matters before, I have seen my father, sister and great-aunt handle government affairs. I will definitely do my best."
Margaret smiled as she looked at Adelina's overly youthful face:
“I heard from the teacher about the ‘mother’ incident a few days ago. Adelina, you have already proven your excellence.”
She then shared her experiences on the Eastern Front, recounting many things she saw and heard during the trip, which surprised the girls who only knew about the war from newspapers.
Shad wasn't with Margaret and the others; instead, he was discussing action plans against the [Holy Son Alliance] with the Great Witches. Sylvia needed a few more days to assist Margaret with the issues they had to handle personally since arriving in Arcadia City, but this didn't prevent Sylvia from joining the operation.
“I’ve heard about the Holy Son Alliance before. I may not be able to resist the power of ‘Abomination’, but there is only one ‘Abomination’. Those Ring Warlocks who were resurrected by ashes also need someone to deal with them.”
Margaret needed to return to White Cliff Manor before evening. Although her official schedule indicated she had nothing else to do that day, she actually needed to receive many secretly visiting local nobles in order to facilitate the establishment of surveillance and control over this transit city for supplies and troops.
However, Margaret was free until at least evening. She wanted to find an opportunity to be alone with Shad, but unfortunately, although the apprentices did not stay in the study, Shad remained there and did not come out.
Eve, Agelina, and Miss Bell showed Margaret around the mansion, and Margaret prepared gifts for them. Although they weren't particularly expensive, they were enough to make the next generation of girls in the Witch Council get along better.
Margaret thought the afternoon would pass by like this, but it was only four o'clock when the maid summoned Margaret to the study on the second floor. Sylvia gestured for Margaret to return to White Cliff Manor with her immediately.
"Something's happened. Do you remember Baron Spencer who suffered heatstroke this morning? He woke up at noon but still felt unwell, so he went for a nap, but he hasn't woken up yet. Our doctors can't diagnose it, and the local doctors suspect it's narcolepsy."
The church has already taken care of this matter. While you may not necessarily be needed, it's best to go back first.
"Sleeping sickness? Adelina just mentioned it to me. But Baron Spencer only arrived with us today. Is it really contagious? Or is there a problem in some area outside the city, and anyone who passes through there could potentially get sick?"
Margaret couldn't understand it, but now wasn't the time to think about such things. She and Sylvia hurriedly said goodbye to everyone and left. Shad didn't go with them, after all, the baron who had the accident didn't live at White Cliff Manor, and even if Shad went there, he wouldn't be able to see him.
"The matter of the Holy Son Alliance has not been resolved yet, and new things have emerged. I don't think even three great witches may be enough."
As Vige stood at the gate of her house watching the carriage depart, she said, and Xia De nodded:
"I don't know if the baron was just unlucky, or if his narcolepsy is getting worse quickly. Viggo, pay attention to the messages coming from the church; they should be taking action soon. Hopefully, we'll get good news."
To prevent her girls from also falling victim to narcolepsy, Viggo then had Agelina and Eve compile a list of people who had visited the outer city's outskirts in the past week and prepared special potions for them as a preventative measure.
Summer days are long, and the sunset is nowhere to be seen outside the window until after four o'clock. Shad has nothing to do tonight, and Denise will not be going home because of "self-reflection." Luvia is going directly to Moon Bay, so he plans to have dinner at Fragrant Residence tonight.
Of course, Shad didn't forget to go home first and tell Winnie that he didn't need to prepare his dinner.
At 5:30 p.m., Margaret sent a letter informing her that the baron, who had first suffered from heatstroke and then fell into a deep sleep, had been confirmed to have the exact same symptoms as the local patients suffering from the sudden outbreak of "sleeping sickness".
The Baron did indeed arrive in Arcadia today, which means that the contagiousness of "sleeping sickness" is more serious than everyone originally thought.
The letter that Vigo later received from the church, which was sent to the Witch Council, stated that the church planned to send someone into the dreams of patients with narcolepsy tonight to explore the cause of this symptom.
In other words, when Shad comes tomorrow, he will probably know more clues. Shad hopes that this matter can be resolved smoothly.
After having dinner with Flora and Vigo, Shad was worried that something else might have happened to Margaret, so he stayed at the Fragrant Residence until 7 p.m. before returning home with Flora after Sylvia arrived.
