Chapter 3991 MU Superbody Major Event (71)
Chapter 3991 MU: The Superbody Incident (Seventy-One)
The Avengers team in the main universe wasn't discouraged by losing Iron Man; they almost immediately got back to work. However, they didn't actually "go weeding in the universe" as Coulson suggested—with many superheroes from across the multiverse gathered here, such minor tasks would naturally be handled by others, and there was no need for the Avengers to bother. Coulson was simply using this excuse to avoid directly refusing them.
As for why they wanted to refuse, Captain America in the main universe understood it much better than Iron Man. This group wasn't exactly a bunch of stragglers, but they were certainly a defeated army. Even if genetically modified humans had good regenerative abilities and no visible wounds, their weapons wouldn't automatically repair themselves. Even if they brought some ammunition, they would still need time to replace it.
Just as they were about to find a quiet place to rest, a girl dressed in a pink and white bodysuit, who looked a bit like Deadpool, jumped in front of them:
"Hey, hello! You're from the main universe, right? The registration desk is over there, don't go to the wrong place. I can take you there if you need."
“Hello, ma’am.” Captain America stepped forward, shook her hand, and said, “Registration desk? So all superheroes who come here have to register? But that makes personnel management easier. No need to trouble you to lead us there, just give us directions, thank you.”
"Don't mention it, you can call me Gwen. The registration desk is over there; you'll see the New Warriors team when you see them."
The Avengers from the main universe walked in the direction he pointed and soon saw several unfamiliar faces: Nightthrush and Fastball from the new Warriors team were registering personnel, Squirrel Girl was using a computer, and Fungus Man was dozing off nearby.
Seeing people approaching, Speedball immediately stood up and said, "You've finally arrived! Now we're just waiting for you. Come and register."
After explaining, he handed each of them a form to fill out. The form required them to write down their abilities, as well as the equipment and supplies they needed. Captain America from the main universe hesitated for a long time, even checking everyone else's forms to make sure everything was correct before submitting his.
"Oh my goodness, your equipment is badly damaged. Did you just go through a major battle? It seems you'll have to go to the equipment department to get more gear. You might also need to order some custom-made space combat equipment. Take this registration form and turn right 200 meters away. Go around the flowerbed and you'll see a building with a blue roof. Go there to get your equipment. Go around that building and you'll find the hospital and pharmacy. Go there to get your medicine. There's a training room simulating a space environment across the street. You can use it if you want, but I suggest you go to the accommodation area at the back and rest for a bit first..."
After Robert finished speaking, he handed each of them a stack of documents and gestured for them to walk in the direction he pointed.
The Avengers in the main universe haven't quite figured out what's going on yet—because generally speaking, their battles don't require these procedures. After a major battle, they just need to say a few words to S.H.I.E.L.D. for supplies, and then readily available equipment is delivered. Even if S.H.I.E.L.D. can't do something, they can always ask Iron Man; the big shot always has a way.
However, Captain America in the main universe adapted well to this, even joking, "This really reminds me of my time in the military. You wouldn't believe it, you could buy anything useless there, but for anything useful, you had to submit at least 10 reports. And even if you got approved, the delivery was incredibly slow. I've heard of people going into battle barefoot because their boots arrived too late..."
Dr. Banner smiled obligingly, then said, "Actually, we should have brought more supplies. After all, given the rushed circumstances, what they've prepared is probably standard equipment, which may not be suitable for us."
“I wasn’t that reliant on equipment. When I first went to the battlefield, I didn’t know how to use a shield, you know, it looked so weird, like Don Quixote. Back then, I was just like them, wearing a helmet and military boots, carrying a gun and charging into the battlefield. It was only later that I figured out a method of fighting with cold weapons.”
As they spoke, they arrived in front of the house with the blue roof. The main universe's Captain America tentatively pushed open the door to see if anyone was inside, only to find an unexpected figure standing in front of the weapons rack. This instant pulled the main universe's Captain America into a memory of the past.
"My God, Howard, what are you doing here?!" Captain America from the main universe rushed over in disbelief and hugged his old buddy tightly. Howard was almost squeezed out of his arms like toothpaste.
“Oh, you damn bastard,” he cursed, “you haven’t changed a bit over the years. I warned you not to touch my expensive custom-made suit! And don’t hug me like a drunken brown bear!”
“It really is you,” Captain America from the main universe said in disbelief. “I thought I was hallucinating, but I always said there couldn’t be another person in the world as pretentious as you—except for your son.”
“Spare me,” Howard said. “You come running the moment you hear about war. Fine, your shield is over there on the wall, pick whichever material you like.”
Howard pointed to a shelf next to him. It was a huge building that looked like a church, with rows and rows of shelves in the open space, seemingly full of equipment, and even floating in the sky—though they looked like weapons for mages.
Even more bizarrely, there was a Spider-Man perched on each shelf. When the main universe's Captain America walked over, he saw his own Spider-Man physically "overpowering" everyone else, pushing aside the rest of the Spider-Men, and jumping onto the shelf he wanted to go to, not forgetting to yell at the others, "This is our universe's Captain America! I'm supposed to be the one to greet him! You can't take him from me..."
“I’m glad you’re back to your old self, Spider-Man,” Captain America from the main universe smiled at him and said, “So where are my weapons?”
“This way, Captain,” Spider-Man pointed to the shelf below him and said, “Your shields are all over here. Would you like me to show them to you?”
Captain America from the main universe turned around from the other side and said, "It's just a shield, what's there to explain... God, what are all these?!"
“These are all shields,” Spider-Man said. “Different shields prepared for Captain America in different universes. We’re from the main universe, which is more balanced in all aspects, so I suggest you use the vibranium-enhanced shield.”
Spider-Man pointed down to one of the shields. Captain America from the main universe also immediately noticed the Stars and Stripes shield hanging in the center. It was no different from the one he usually used, except that it was brighter and the metal had a subtle sheen, making it look very beautiful.
Captain America from the main universe reached out and took the shield from there. As soon as he held it in his hand, he was somewhat surprised and weighed it in his hand, then said, "Why is this thing so light?"
“Because it’s hollow,” Spider-Man excitedly explained to him. “This shield is made of a special alloy of vibranium and molten steel used in this universe. It reduces the weight while increasing the shield’s toughness, which greatly reduces the burden on the user. Of course, I know this weight is not a burden for you, but it has some functions that may be used in space combat.”
Captain America in the main universe also noticed something different: there were buttons on the shield handle, seemingly corresponding to different functions. He reached out and pressed the first one, and the entire shield unfolded in a very complex and magnificent way. Although it became very thin, its area increased to three times its original size, basically enough to cover Captain America's entire body.
Captain America from the main universe tapped the shield with some concern and said, "It's so thin, can it really withstand impact? Is the cushioning still working?"
"Of course, it's pretty much the same as before. This is Howard Stark's latest work, so its quality is beyond doubt."
“I never thought this shield would be upgraded,” Captain America from the main universe said, shaking his head.
“There’s still the most important function you haven’t used yet. Try putting it on the ground and then stepping on it,” Spider-Man said.
Captain America from the main universe placed the shield on the ground with some skepticism, then stepped onto it like a skateboard, placing one foot in front of the other near the handle. He then noticed that his back foot seemed to have stepped on something. With a light kick, the entire shield shot out like an electric skateboard.
Fortunately, Captain America from the main universe has good balance. He leaned back suddenly but managed to regain his balance and even grasped the essence of surfing, circling around the armory.
“I knew you were the best! Captain! You skate better than them all!” Spider-Man yelled.
“When I arrived, I was still thinking about how to solve my propulsion problem in the universe. This thing is really useful,” Captain America from the main universe looked very happy. He patted the shield after restoring it and said, “Howard is a real pro.”
“And another thing, and another thing,” Spider-Man said, “try throwing him out there.”
Spider-Man pointed to a shooting range on the other side, with two dummies standing in the middle. Captain America from the main universe swung his shield, which accurately hit one of the dummies, but instead of returning, it hovered there. Then, the shield suddenly opened, sending the dummy flying.
"Wow, not bad for ranged attacks," Captain America from the main universe pumped his fist. But what surprised him even more was that after knocking the dummy away, the shield suddenly flickered and then teleported back into his hand.
“This incorporates some magical technology,” Spider-Man said. “There’s a battery compartment behind your handle, which contains a miniature magical arc reactor and a magical core that can last for about 40 hours. This gives the shield some magical properties, allowing it to withstand pure energy attacks and also teleport back to your hand to prevent it from being stolen.”
“Incredible,” Captain America from the main universe genuinely exclaimed in admiration. “Is this also Howard’s achievement? He’s really keeping up with the times.”
Spider-Man touched his nose and said, "You probably won't like to hear the truth, Captain, but I still have to say it—this is the result of Iron Man's research in this universe."
Captain America from the main universe widened his eyes and said, "Tony?"
"Yes, the Iron Man in this universe knows magic, so he incorporates magic into many mechanical devices..."
“I’m not surprised he has the technology. What surprises me is that he would be willing to use it to build a shield for me.”
"Yes, of course. Using Tony's technology has some side effects—but you arrived too late to catch him gather all the Captain Americas together and show off for two hours. If he hadn't had to leave for the front lines, he probably could have bragged for two days straight."
Captain America from the main universe couldn't help but cover his forehead: "Tony is still Tony after all."
