Chapter 455 The Experience of Molecule Man 1
Chapter 1: The Experience of Molecule Man
The Molecule Man was not dead, as his mind still resided in the wand, though it lay dormant for many months. During this time, the boy and his friends played in the swamps near Citrusville, pretending to be superheroes and villains.
During their race, Sanford's friend Cynthia McClellan knocked it into the swamp. In an attempt to retrieve it, Cynthia was chased by an alligator, ran into a pit of quicksand, and seemingly drowned. However, due to the radioactive properties of that particular area,
Owen's brain is awakened from the wand and he uses his powers to take control of Cynthia's body, saving her life and transforming her into Molecule Man. As Owen attempts to reshape his body into a muscular male form, he finds that Cynthia's mind resists the change, preventing him from changing genders while inside her body.
Reese, out of his wits, attacks the home where Cynthia and her mother live. When Iron Man happens upon her, a battle between the two begins. Due to Cynthia's idolatry of The Golden Avenger, she forces Molecule Man to flee. Later, when Iron Man assists in rebuilding Omegaville and launches an attack, Molecule Man reappears.
During the fight, the wand was knocked out of Cynthia's hand, freeing her from his control. A nearby snake happened to touch the wand, allowing Molecule Man to take control of its body and transform it into humanoid form before continuing his attack. Iron Man ripped the wand from the creature's hand and fought his possession long enough to give the wand to a passing Humanoid.
Since the humanoid has no mind, Molecule Man cannot control its body, and when the humanoid wanders into the swamp, Owen is helpless.
Shortly thereafter, the villain known as Klaw appeared in "The Nexus of Everything" after a battle with Ka-Zar. Molecule Man appeared shortly after the Man-Thing discarded Molecule Man's wand. After Klaw recovered, he was saved from Reese's possession due to his inorganic form, and agreed to help Reese obtain a permanent body.
After learning of Reed Richard's Psi amplifier device, they traveled to New York to use it in Molecule Man's next host body. The body was found in New York City when the pair happened upon a boxer who had drunk a punch, forcing him to hold his wand and allowing Molecule Man to take control of him.
When they first broke into the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building headquarters, the one person present was a visiting Impossible Man, who they easily knocked out in a sneak attack. When the Fantastic Four arrived, Klaue and Molecule Man incapacitated the team and attempted to use the Psi Amplifier. However, the tide of the battle began to change when Impossible Man recovered from his previous attack and fought back.
As Molecule Man attempted to enter the Psi Amplifier, Reed Richards had enough time to pull the cord, causing Reese to retreat back into his wand, freeing the boxer from his control. After the fight, Reed Richards took up the wand and allowed Molecule Man to take over his body. Despite Richards' attempts to take control of his own body, Molecule Man proved too powerful, and Reed was forced to agree to give control to his enemy in order to save his teammates' lives.
As the Molecule Man terrorizes New York City, the Fantastic Four regroup and attack their enemy once again. When Reed is knocked out in battle, this allows the Molecule Man to gain full control, and he attempts to unleash his full power to destroy his enemy. However, this plan backfires as his powers are unable to affect their costumes made of unstable molecules, causing enough feedback to transfer the Molecule Man's consciousness back into the wand, which then falls into a smoke pile, seemingly destroyed.
It survived, however, and the ashes were later dumped in a landfill in upstate New York when the chimney was cleaned. Months later, a drunk homeless man accidentally came into contact with the wand during an encounter with the microscopic astronauts known as "Bio-Dragons."
Although distracted by the fact that he was in possession of the body of an African-American, Molecule Man attempted to capture Biotron and examine it. Their fight led them to a nearby river, where Biotron managed to cut some of the wires. The resulting electrical shock separated the wand from Molecule Man's nearest host body and dragged it down the river.
Some time after this, the Silver Surfer discovered the wand, but when the Molecule Man tried to possess him, the Surfer's silver skin protected him and he discarded the wand. At this point, Owen decided to try to form a new body through the wand, and was surprised when it was able to create a new body for him.
After returning to human form, Molecule Man had the limitations he had before - he could not affect organic matter. Intrigued by the Silver Surfer, Molecule Man heard the space hero's origins, and inspired by the story of Galactus, Owen decided to destroy Earth. Owen created a costume inspired by Galactus and easily subdued the Silver Surfer, then traveled to the suburb of Neton, New Jersey, and built a massive fortress to carry out the mission.
Silver Surfer then tried to contact the Fantastic Four using a surfboard. However, while they were away, the Avengers discovered the board, freed Silver Surfer, and hunted down Molecule Man. With a barrier blocking their way, Earth's Mightiest Heroes smashed a hole large enough for their newest member, Greer Nelson, to squeeze through.
He first confronts Molecule Man, finding him to be an emotionally stunted and insecure man, and she promises to get to know him before deciding if she likes him or not. However, this does not stop Molecule Man from fighting back when the other Avengers arrive.
He destroyed Captain America's shield, Thor's hammer, Iron Man's armor, and the Silver Surfer's surfboard before placing them in a crusher, seemingly killing them.
The Avengers secretly survived thanks to the Silver Surfer's powers, but were underpowered without Iron Man's armor and mystical magic, forcing Thor to revert to the civilian identity of Donald Blake during his one-minute absence from the hammer.
Thinking her fellow Avengers were dead, Greer attempted to kill Molecule Man in his sleep, but she was unable to kill herself. Despite their lack of superpowers, the Avengers successfully attacked Molecule Man, who fled in fear after being struck by Blake. Ultimately, Captain America incapacitated their enemy.
