Chapter 191 Roast Duck
Chapter 191 Roast Duck
The Oak Grove is a forest in the south of the city, close to the town of Juniper. The forest is lush and leafy, blocking out the sky and the sun. Even during the day, it is as dark as at night. There are a huge number of insect-type Pokémon living in it.
In the oak forest, Shota still felt a little unsatisfied after eating the braised Slowpoke's tail.
But now is not the time to think about this. Shota did not come to this forest for no reason. He was looking for the Oak Forest Shrine.
Just when he was at a loss, a Farfetch'd duck suddenly flew out from the woods, and with it came a young child.
If my guess is correct, this child should be the guy named Shangren in the animation.
"Don't run, Farfetch'd. Learn how to make charcoal. It's very powerful."
The Onion Duck quacked twice, as if venting its dissatisfaction.
The Onion Duck is not as bloated as ordinary ducks, and has a shorter neck. Its body is covered with brown-gray feathers, its chest and abdomen are milky white, and the border between the abdomen and beak is distinguished by triangular serrated patterns. Its feet are yellow.
There are three hairs standing upright on the top of its head. The black "V"-shaped markings on its forehead and the green onion on one of its wings are its distinctive features. Galar Farfetch'd is more robust than the average Farfetch'd, with darker feathers, sharper eyes, and the "V"-shaped markings that look more like eyebrows, and it is always carrying a gigantic green onion.
The Onion Duck lives in places where stem-like plants grow. Since these plants are extremely rare, their numbers seem to be decreasing. In order to protect the declining number of Onion Ducks, people have begun to grow more stems. As it walks, it always holds a stem in its hand to build its nest. The stem in its hand is an important weapon, and it can be swung like a knife to cut many things. There are several different styles of wielding the stem.
It cannot survive without a stem, so it will desperately fight with opponents who want to snatch the stem, or use the stem it holds to knock down the opponent. The plant stems it holds seem to be good and bad, so Farfetch'd sometimes fight each other for stems. It will use the stem-like plants held by its wings as a sword to chop its opponents, and will use it as food in emergencies. After eating the food stems in emergencies, it will quickly run to find other stems.
The Onion Duck is based on a duck and onions. Its design was inspired by a Japanese proverb: 鸭が葱を背负って来る ("A duck carries onions on its back", meaning good things come to your door).
Farfetch'd was the first Pokémon described as being capable of being eaten by humans, but due to ethical reasons this setting is rarely mentioned since then.
However, this did not stop Shota from stir-frying it along with the green onions in his hand.
However, he still suppressed his appetite. He didn't know why he was suddenly very interested in food. Perhaps the gluttony of the Beedrill had begun to influence him subtly.
Shota grabbed the defenseless Farfetch'd that was quacking there.
Farfetch'd felt a pair of cold hands grabbing his neck. He shuddered all over and was about to fight back, but he felt suddenly suppressed by some force.
For some reason, a sense of fear from the bottom of his soul spread throughout his body.
Shangren saw a stranger holding his Onion Duck. He didn't know whether the stranger was good or bad, so he had to test him carefully and asked, "Excuse me, are you a good person or a bad person?"
Well, what a pure child. Shota showed a kind expression and said to him, "I am a good man. I want to find a temple in the oak forest. Can you take me there?"
Hearing the other party say that he was a good person, the young Shangren immediately let down his guard. While taking the Farfetch'ed Duck handed to him by the stranger, he said, "I know where the temple is. Come with me."
"Ok."
……
After twisting and turning in the forest, Shota followed the happy-looking Naoto and the anxious Farfetch'd Ducky to a shrine.
Just as he had guessed, this small shrine was indeed used to worship Celebi, the god of the forest, because Celebi's stone statue was placed in the center of the shrine, and there were some tree fruits for worship next to it.
"I don't know if Machado has got the GS ball now."
Shota thought this in his heart, but Naoto's words interrupted his thoughts.
"Sir, since I have found it for you, I will go back first. I still need to learn how to make charcoal."
After hearing what Shangren said, Shouta rubbed his chin and nodded to show that he understood.
Shang Ren left with a happy look on his face, but as he was walking, he felt a sense of dizziness coming on him and fell to the ground on the grass with a plop.
Onion Duck remained on guard the entire time because he could believe the fear engraved in his bones.
As his trainer collapsed to the ground, Farfetch'd quickly found a direction and flew away like a frightened bird.
Shota didn't feel bad about the escaped Farfetch'd since he had already marked him with the mark of having super powers.
……
At night, after saying goodbye to the worried-looking Naoto, Shota sensed the direction and then disappeared from the spot.
In a haystack in the birch forest, Farfetch'd woke up in a daze. After thinking for a moment, he recalled some things about the morning.
He was still a little scared, but at least he had escaped from the clutches of the devil, so he went to the river and prepared to drink a sip of water to calm his nerves.
For some reason, the moon tonight is not pure white, but rather a dark red.
The Farfetch'd was drinking water, and his handsome appearance was reflected on the water. He thought proudly:
"Never go back, Shangren, just go and learn how to make charcoal by yourself. Your master always looks at me with strange eyes, and the man in the morning is the same."
Thinking of this, the Farfetch'd angrily slapped the water surface, as if venting his inner unhappiness.
"I finally figured it out. They all want to eat me!"
"Yes."
Suddenly, Farfetch'd heard a human voice coming from the other side of the river.
He raised his head tremblingly and saw the bloodthirsty look in Shota's eyes.
After a few quacking sounds, in a short moment, the Farfetch'd Ducky was suffocated to death in the river by its superpowers.
"You brought your own condiments and found a place to wash your body. Oh, I feel embarrassed to eat you."
The aroma of roast duck wafted from the oak forest, and tears of humiliation flowed from Shota's mouth.
And so, there was one less Onion Duck in the world.
