Chapter 685 - 588: Becoming a Sheep
Chapter 685 - 588: Becoming a Sheep
After entering the origin, Zhao Yi thought he would quickly find the great river, engage in a thrilling battle, capture the strange fish, and then leave. However, after walking through the origin for a whole day, what lay before him was still an endless desolate land, with no drop of water, no blade of grass, and not a single living thing.
Despite the absence of enemies, Zhao Yi felt oppressed. Unconsciously, he tore open his clothes, hoping to quell the heat in his heart.
"Baa baa..."
As Zhao Yi was feeling troubled, a sudden bleating of sheep sent a chill down his spine. Looking up, he saw in the distance a flock of sheep, an old man sitting on a stone with eyes closed, holding a long whip in his arms, occasionally muttering in his sleep.
"Master, this guy is definitely not a good person. There’s no grass here, so what are these sheep grazing on?"
The Nine Dragon Jade Seal reminded Zhao Yi, who then noticed that the sheep were eating the stones of the Gobi Desert.
"Sir, may I ask if this is the Source of the Cosmic?"
After a long time, the old man slowly opened his eyes, filled with disdain, looked at Zhao Yi, and said, "Where did you come from? This place doesn’t belong to you, get lost!"
His tone was full of contempt, and his expression was as if he had eaten something disgusting. Zhao Yi had never been so insulted, feeling displeased in his heart, but he knew the Cosmic Origin was a unique place and could not be judged by conventional standards.
"Sir, I’m here to find a river. I want to catch a fish and leave!"
The shepherd, who had closed his eyes again, opened them upon hearing Zhao Yi’s words. His gaze grew clear and cold, scrutinizing Zhao Yi before letting out a sneer.
"You certainly don’t look like an idiot, yet you come here courting death—what a pity!"
The shepherd swung the whip.
"Snap!"
As the sound echoed in the air, the sheep stopped eating and gradually moved toward Zhao Yi. Though Zhao Yi didn’t sense any killing intent, he remained vigilant, watching his surroundings.
"Baa..."
A sheep began to bleat toward the sky. Zhao Yi felt his hair stand on end as he prepared for battle. Oddly, the sheep did not attack but surrounded Zhao Yi, bleating incessantly. The sound grew more numerous and chaotic.
Zhao Yi initially thought this must be an illusion technique or a magic that disturbed the heart spirit. Yet, half a tea’s time passed with no changes around him.
"Master! Look at your feet!"
Prompted by the old man’s reminder, Zhao Yi looked at his legs, instantly feeling a bout of tinnitus, a bit dizzying. At some point, his legs had sprouted long hair and his feet had become hooves!
"Damn! I don’t want to become a roasted whole sheep!"
In an instant, Zhao Yi waved his arm, the immense force kicking up a whirlwind, and Zhao Yi spun in place, trying to sweep the entire flock of sheep into the air. To him, killing these sheep would restore his body.
"Baa..."
The flock was swept into the sky, but the bleating continued unabated. Zhao Yi glanced around in mid-air, shocked to see an infinite number of sheep completely surrounding him.
The tornado seemed like a wave in the ocean, unable to shake the flock.
The tornado ceased, and the shepherd in the distance chuckled, holding his whip, "Young man, as long as you declare your withdrawal now, I can restore your original body and even send you out. Persist in your stubbornness, and you’ll become just like the others—a sheep!"
"Sir, thanks for the warning, but I have this one flaw—once I’ve made up my mind, I won’t turn back till I’m dead!"
With that, Zhao Yi leaped from the flock, attacking the shepherd, believing that killing him would solve the problem.
"Boom!"
A sheep collided with Zhao Yi mid-air, exploding upon contact. The massive shockwave sent Zhao Yi flying far away, somersaulting multiple times in mid-air before he stabilized himself.
As soon as Zhao Yi landed, dozens of sheep plummeted from the sky to crush him. With his prior experience, Zhao Yi knew the danger they posed, so he began dodging frantically. Yet, the sheer number of sheep left him with diminishing space to maneuver. Despite his speed, the flock continued to compress his space.
Eventually, Zhao Yi was hit by one sheep, then two, three, a dozen, until hundreds of sheep pressed him into the smallest of spaces.
Light, explosion!
A massive explosion formed a towering flame; countless sheep in the Gobi Desert were blown into the air, stones flying, and some stones hit the sheep, causing more explosions. In the face of this spectacle, the shepherd remained as calm as water, with the explosion’s shockwave and stones vanishing before him.
Gazing at the billowing smoke, the shepherd said blandly, "What a pity, such a promising young man, such a pity."
He shook his head, sighing, ready to clean up the aftermath.
"What!"
As the dust settled, the sight before him utterly stunned the shepherd!
Zhao Yi stood like a celestial god, unharmed by the enormous blast, surrounded by flickering purple aura. Yet, Zhao Yi had indeed paid a high price—even as he gasped for breath, he defiantly raised a middle finger!
"Good! Hahaha! Well done, young man! You’ve earned my newfound respect!"
Despite the shepherd’s praise, Zhao Yi showed no interest, glancing at his hooved feet and hearing the flock bleating again. The shepherd’s mouth curled into a cold smile, eager to see how Zhao Yi would overcome this obstacle.
"Howl!"
Zhao Yi howled toward the sky, wolf-like. Upon hearing the sound, the shepherd’s face changed dramatically, losing all previous arrogance and composure!
As the wolf howl intensified, the bleating subsided, and soon, all the sheep were trembling and collapsed on the ground!
A quarter-hour later, the flock vanished. Zhao Yi ceased his howling, smiling, convinced he’d cleared this hurdle. Yet, unexpectedly, the shepherd launched an attack, his whip like a venomous snake, whirling in the air to strike Zhao Yi!
Wherever it passed, the sand and stones flew violently, filled with killing intent!
After two engagements, Zhao Yi was somewhat exhausted, reluctant to confront the shepherd head-on. So, he evaded continuously, plotting to find the shepherd’s weakness, but the enemy’s increasing speed overwhelmed him until Zhao Yi suddenly noticed something out of the corner of his eye.
At some point, many white stones appeared in the Gobi Desert. Zhao Yi realized these must be the sheep!
Feeling powerless, Zhao Yi decided to take a gamble. Dodging the whip assault, he bent down and picked up a white stone, as the whip launched at him again. Zhao Yi directly aimed the stone at the whip.
A strange thing happened—the whip avoided it!
Zhao Yi rejoiced!
He waved his arm, the purple air spreading around, controlling the stone to float mid-air. Seeing this, the shepherd had no choice but to withdraw, staring indignantly at Zhao Yi.
"It seems my guess was right! Indeed, sir, you couldn’t bear to touch these stones!"
Zhao Yi wore an expression that said, "What are you going to do about it?"
