Chapter 29 King and Emperor
Chapter 29 King and Emperor
On the 30th floor of Genji Heavy Industries, Caesar was both on guard against a possible surprise attack and searching for a way down.
Lu Mingfei's electronic key worked perfectly, and Caesar arrived directly at the floor called "God's Path".
Everything here has indeed been moved out; the room is empty, and the walls seem to have been scraped off.
However, Caesar stepped on a folder.
The contents of the book gave him a new understanding of the history of the dragon race.
"Your Majesty, White King, tsk." Caesar stuffed the documents into his pocket and continued forward.
He couldn't think of anything more important than the bloodline origins that the Japanese branch had kept hidden for so long, nor did he have time to ponder why such crucial documents would have been left here.
He just wanted to make a scene to facilitate Chu Zihang's actions.
Of course, with that folder there, today's trip wasn't in vain.
But it would be even better if we could really get rid of Princess Kaguya and let Norma enter Japan.
But there weren't many people on this floor, not even many Deadpools or Corpse Guardians.
His initial explorations were safe, at least until he encountered someone wearing a Noh mask.
"Nice to meet you."
In the dim light, the man in the loose kimono bowed slightly, his long hair flowing like ink-black water down his shoulders, so smooth that Caesar suspected it was a wig.
"I am a member of the Fierce Ghosts..." He paused slightly, the syllable rolling lightly on his tongue, "...King General."
In the dim light, the man who called himself the King stood tall and straight, his classical attire, adorned with a haori hakama, was impeccable, reminiscent of the style of the court nobles of the Heian period.
However, for someone like Caesar who lacked a delicate appreciation for traditional Japanese art, the Noh mask covering his face, painted with white powder and featuring a strange smile, appeared only bizarre and jarring.
"You hate this mask too?" The man who called himself King General slowly raised his arm, the wide sleeve of his kimono slipping down to reveal a section of fair yet powerful forearm. His fingers were long and slender, with distinct knuckles, resembling ivory carvings in the dim light—perfect for the aesthetics of someone with a hand fetish. "So, shall we cooperate?"
Caesar was speechless, then almost burst out laughing: "Your transition was too abrupt."
"Although I hate the Snake Clan, it doesn't mean I'm going to work with a bunch of guys on the verge of becoming Death Servants." Caesar laughed, his chin slightly raised as he spoke, revealing the arrogance that was unique to scions of noble families and ingrained in their bones.
"But he has already arrived." The king took a step back.
Caesar turned his head, and Genjiro, his twin swords stained with blood, arrived.
The "super hybrid," the "emperor" of the Snake Clan and the current acting patriarch, Genjiro, arrived at the 30th floor with a heart full of rage.
"General," Genji said in a low voice, "I never expected you to dare to trespass here."
"There are no secrets here for me." The king seemed to be laughing; his voice came from behind the mask, carrying a somber tone.
Yuan Zhisheng suddenly felt that the voice sounded very familiar.
He seemed to have heard it somewhere before.
"You will pay the price for killing my girl," the king said in a calm tone.
Even you will have to pay the price.
"I heard you've been promoted and become the head of the Snake Clan," Caesar said, uninterested in the feud between the two. He looked at Genjiro with a mocking expression, "Is this the benefit you gained by betraying your allies?"
"The family owes you all a great deal," Genji said coldly, "but I'm glad to see you're still alive. If we hadn't met under these circumstances..."
"Enough with the useless talk," Caesar's voice turned stern and cold as he interrupted Genjiro, "Shin, the girl we met at the comic book store, she's dead, killed by your family."
At this point, Caesar looked at the general on the other side, his tone growing even colder: "And the Fierce Ghosts! You, a high and mighty emperor and a treacherous and cunning general, surely did not hear the screams of the innocent when you launched the war."
"I always thought there was only one scoundrel family in the world, the Gattuso family, but I never imagined there were nine in Japan!"
Yuan Zhisheng was slightly taken aback.
"Feel sorry."
The moment those two syllables fell, Caesar's suppressed rage was completely ignited: "What else can you Japanese do besides bow and apologize afterward?"
"It's really no use." Genji's expression returned to its icy indifference. "Different beliefs and stances mean that if we can't persuade them, then we're left with only one last resort."
Death can spark disputes, but it can also settle them.
"Shall we cooperate?" The king remained true to his original aspirations, and even in front of Genjiro, the "Emperor" carefully cultivated by the Snake Clan, he still appeared calm and composed.
Caesar was unsure of the exact level of "Emperor," but it was likely higher than A-level. However, the opponent's powerful lineage was not a reason for Caesar Gattuso to back down.
He would never easily admit that he was inferior to his opponent until he had actually fought one and personally measured the limits of his opponent with his own blade.
Caesar remained silent, but with a swift motion of his Dictator, the whistling sound of the hunting knife cutting through the air was the clearest answer.
"Ha..." A low sigh came from the shadows, the sound seemingly imbued with the stickiness and helplessness of the night, "You people favored by fate, growing up under the sun, arrogance is always your shadow."
The moment the words left his lips, the King's figure vanished into the deeper darkness like a drop of ink. Almost simultaneously, Caesar's "Kamaitachi" spell lost its effect on the King.
Caesar lost his sense of the king's generals.
The three-way power struggle suddenly ended with only Caesar and Genji facing off, swords drawn.
Genjiro abandoned Caesar without hesitation. In his eyes, the lone Caesar was nothing more than a minor ailment. The real threat to the Hebi-Hachi family was the "King General" of the Oni Clan, who had always been lurking in the darkness and had only now made his first appearance.
His movements were so swift that Caesar's pupils constricted.
Almost at the same millisecond that the king's aura dissolved into the darkness, Genjiro shot out like an arrow. Caesar only felt a blurry afterimage flash across his retina before the other had already passed his position and plunged into the bottomless darkness without hesitation.
A chill crept up Caesar's spine.
If Genji had casually stabbed him as he passed by, Caesar wasn't sure he could have dodged it.
Caesar clearly realized that Genjiro's explosive speed surpassed that of Chu Zihang, whom he was familiar with and who was known for his fast attacks.
"You bunch of katana wielders!" Caesar cursed, decisively abandoning his Dick Tudor and drawing his Desert Eagle from his waist. The gun barrel instantly turned towards the depths of darkness, towards the direction where Genjiro and the King had disappeared, and he calmly and swiftly pulled the trigger repeatedly.
As the gunshot rang out, a whisper from the darkness echoed: "The fire is about to start again..."
