"stop!!"
The soldiers all stopped.
"Developer powder!!!"
"Ecklaus spoke up."
In the ranged squad, several soldiers dressed as hunters took out bows and arrows, each with a yellow cloth bag attached to its arrow.
shhhhhh! ! !
The arrow shot into the sky above the boundless plain ahead and exploded with a bang.
Pale yellow powder fell from the sky.
One after another, enormous monsters resembling small, circular hills appeared.
They densely filled the plain ahead, numbering at least several hundred, stretching into the distance.
Each monster moved slowly and steadily toward the Knights, leaving furrows in its wake.
I felt the powder landing on my body.
Their scarlet eyes snapped open.
"Kiss!!"
They opened their gaping maws, and a tremendous roar swept across the entire plain.
The next second, the slimes in the front row began to split, and each second-tier slime turned into two first-tier slimes that were about two meters tall.
"Mage group, a Tier 2 mage casts Explosive Flame on a Tier 1 slime!!! A Tier 1 mage casts Frostbite on a Tier 2 slime!!!"
Ecklaus waved his battle flag.
As he gave the order.
Under the command of the ranged squad leader, one after another scorching fireballs roared from the tips of the mages' staffs, piercing the sky and heading straight for the newly split first-tier slimes.
The weaker first-tier mages chanted incantations, and ice crystals drifted down from above the second-tier slimes.
When the ice crystals fell onto the slime surface of the second-tier slime, they immediately triggered a chill, and wisps of white frost rose from the surface.
The already slow-moving second-tier slime became even slower.
"Boom!"
The first-tier slimes, struck by the explosive flames, were engulfed in flames and screamed in agony.
But this seemed to ignite their ferocity; they roared angrily and leaped toward the knights at incredible speed, their flames billowing.
Each jump left a scorching mark on the ground, and the air was filled with the smell of burning.
"Vanguard squad, advance!!"
The paladins, clad in heavy armor, strode forward, shields in hand, blocking the oncoming slimes, while the berserkers, wielding great axes or swords, slashed down at the slimes that crashed into the shields.
Finally, there was the healing provided by the priests.
As the team members offered their sincere prayers, a gentle white light emanated from them.
A series of enhancing halos enveloped them.
At the same time, the woman in black robes also moved.
She spread her arms, and streams of eerie energy surged from her fingertips, creating a dark magic circle in a vast area in front of her.
The next second, chains erupted from the magic circle, wrapping around the slimes in front of them.
These chains seemed to do more than just restraint; the bound slimes screamed in agony.
Even the second-tier slime let out a painful roar.
The entire knightly order adopted a rotating formation, and they were enveloped in an orange-yellow light membrane, which was the effect of Ecklaus's [Tactical Rotation].
On the battlefield, flames and frost intertwined, and crashes and roars mingled. Some of the first-tier slimes couldn't hold on any longer and collapsed.
Everything seems to be moving in a positive direction.
But Ecklaus frowned.
He knew that the advantages he had were only superficial.
There were just too many slimes. The mages' focused fire was simply not enough. When all the slimes swarmed in, the vanguard squad's defenses were bound to be breached.
Perhaps we won't even have to wait until then...
The first-tier slimes, blocked by the shields, roared and twisted their bodies as they watched one of their comrades fall.
They collided with each other.
One by one, slimes of significantly larger size appeared before the paladins' horrified eyes.
They withstood the blasting flames and the berserker's slashes, and swept towards the paladins in front of them with lightning speed.
It looked like they were about to tear a hole in this defense line.
At the critical moment,
A dark halo descended, and the second-tier slimes in front of the paladin all fell into a weakened state, as if their spirits had withered.
A figure rushed out from behind.
An arc of light flashed in his hand.
The mouths of the several already severely damaged second-tier slimes froze, and they collapsed with a thud, shattering into pieces.
Ecklaus appeared before the group, holding two silver blades in his hands.
[Combat Skills] The Tactical Master class is not only reflected in the command bonus of the legion, but also in the combat skills of the individual.
Looking at the horde of second-tier slimes surging towards him like a raging tide, Ecklaus sighed:
"Everyone, stand back!!"
The knights began to retreat. Everyone understood that, although the knights had not yet suffered any casualties, they were prepared to retreat.
But when the Knights had nowhere left to retreat, that's when the casualties began.
Inside the wooden house at the east gate of the town,
A group of nobles watched the battle unfold before them, each holding a telescope.
Some people clapped and cheered:
"Well done!! This is the Knights of our kingdom, so well-trained!! They held their own against a horde of second-tier slimes!!!"
"The kingdom's revival is promising!!!"
"This Ecklaus is a rare tactical genius! He should return to the Bandanda Knights!"
But some people are very dissatisfied:
"What kind of war is it if there's no bloodshed?!"
"Is this all the slime is capable of? If that's the case, there's no need for a familiar territory at all. We should just fight our way through!"
"Disappointing, so disappointing. This is completely different from the war I imagined! Slime, give it your all!!"
Suddenly, someone pointed out the window and shouted:
"Gentlemen! Look! There have been casualties!!!"
Everyone looked through their binoculars and saw a first-tier paladin who was swallowed whole by a dying second-tier slime because he was not able to retreat in time.
Through the pale yellow powder, one could see that the paladin had turned into a cloud of blood mist inside the second-tier slime.
They didn't even have time to scream.
Inside the wooden house, excited voices rang out:
"Gentlemen, this is war!!! War is this cruel!!"
Other voices echoed in agreement:
"Yes, gentlemen, witnessing this war has served as a wake-up call for us."
"Our Kingdom of Dorant is still relatively weak. Right now, we have no choice but to make a deal with these monsters."
"Yeah yeah……"
A chorus of agreement filled the room.
Suddenly, someone pointed out the window and shouted:
"Someone new has appeared! They don't seem to be from the Knights!"
Upon hearing about the new developments in the battle, everyone quickly looked over.
One by one, people dressed in vulture robes ran out from the flank of the slime and headed toward the corpse of the slime that had just died.
"It's a vulture!"
Everyone could see it.
"That's interesting."
Viscount Rohr smiled and said:
"Gentlemen, witnessing this war has made our trip worthwhile."
The nobles all nodded and smiled.
"With the vultures joining the fray, we probably won't be able to win... Will the slimes think we broke our promise?"
At this moment, someone spoke up in a low voice.
"Ha, impossible. According to the information I've received, even if two more vultures join, they still won't be able to win this war."
It was another viscount who spoke, and he spoke confidently:
"Moreover, if we really win, it might not be a bad thing. Right now, the Kingdom of Klin is only concerned with one thing and not the other. If we can win with such a small amount of troops, they probably won't make any more moves."
"Gentlemen, we can just watch the show in peace. No matter what, the fire won't touch us."
Everyone burst into laughter after hearing this.
