Chapter 77 The Haunted Shen Family Compound?
Chapter 77 The Haunted Shen Family Compound?
The two covered the coffin lid and tidied up the room. Just then, Zhang Qing woke up and asked them in a daze what was going on.
Zhou Fengchen thought to himself that he couldn't let her know about what happened at the City God Temple last night, or she might start to doubt her life. So he made up a bunch of nonsense, saying that they were bewitched by the fox that went to the old temple to pray for blessings and had a dream, and that they had just woken up.
Zhang Qing actually believed it.
The three of them then discussed it and decided that Zhang Qing should call the police, wait for the police from the nearby police station to come and clean up the scene, take her to make a statement, and then go home and leave the rest alone.
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi left the City God Temple and headed to Chenyuan Martial Arts School.
Inside the Chen Garden Martial Arts School, Mr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, and the entire Chen family were pacing anxiously. When they saw Zhou Fengchen return, they hurriedly asked how things were.
When Zhou Fengchen saw their expressions, his heart sank. He said that they hadn't found it yet, and asked if they had gone out to look for it later.
Chen's mother said, "How could we not search? We searched the entire city, everywhere Xiaoya likes to go. We even reported it to the police, but they won't handle it, saying they can only file a case after 24 hours!"
"This..." Zhou Fengchen didn't know what to do.
Monk Yuanzhi suddenly patted him, signaling him to go outside to talk.
Once outside, Monk Yuanzhi said, "You're just worrying too much. Since we've already confirmed that we're connected to that old fox, we can just use the tracking talisman to find him or go directly to your sister. You should reassure your family first. Look how anxious they are; the old man is almost having a heart attack."
Zhou Fengchen frowned and said, "But the tracking talisman is a very strange spell. It can only be used once a day, otherwise it won't work."
Monk Yuanzhi clicked his tongue and said, "Don't blame me for saying something unlucky, but even if we rack our brains, we still won't find it, and trouble will still happen. Why don't we wait until tonight, when it's a whole day, and then use the tracking talisman? That way, we'll be absolutely certain!"
Zhou Fengchen thought it made sense, turned around and went back into the house to comfort his family for a while, then patted his chest and promised that he would definitely bring his little sister back tomorrow.
He and Monk Yuanzhi hadn't slept all night, and being chased by the underworld officials had kept their mental focus extremely high. They were incredibly sleepy, so they ate a quick breakfast and went to a room to sleep soundly.
When Zhou Fengchen woke up, it was already afternoon. As soon as he got up, he saw Jiang Hao leaning against the door, staring at him with red eyes.
"Are you out of your mind? What's wrong with you? You're acting crazy." Zhou Fengchen was annoyed.
Jiang Hao said with a mournful face, "I went out of town yesterday, and when I came back today, I heard that Xiaoya and Qiqi had an accident. Are they dead?"
Monk Yuanzhi also got up, spat, and said, "Where did this brat come from? Can't he speak properly?"
Zhou Fengchen shook his head and said, "Don't talk such unlucky things. Aren't you a local? Come with us and let's go look for them!"
Jiang Hao nodded: "Okay!"
The three of them left the martial arts school. Monk Yuanzhi went back to his rented room to get his weapons, and then they went to a noodle shop on the next street and ordered three bowls of large meat noodles to fill their stomachs.
While eating, Monk Yuanzhi asked Jiang Hao, "Are there any particularly chaotic places in your city? Like, places that are rather eerie, with lots of legends?"
Jiang Hao said hesitantly, "Where would a gloomy place come from in such a developed city like Donghai? Even if there is one, it's just a legend."
Zhou Fengchen said, "Then just tell the legends you know!"
Jiang Hao scratched his head and said, "My mind is a mess, I can't remember. I'll only know when I see it."
Monk Yuanzhi exclaimed, "Damn it! Look at you, so useless! You're clearly not cut out for anything!"
Jiang Hao was intimidated by Zhou Fengchen, but he didn't know what the monk Yuanzhi did. He curled his lip and retorted, "If you're a man destined for great things, why are you a monk?"
"Oh ho! This is really something!" Monk Yuanzhi exploded, "You believe I'll kill you?"
Jiang Hao tried to argue back, but Zhou Fengchen grew impatient: "Stop arguing, what's the point?"
The two glared at each other and fell silent.
The three of them ate a bowl of noodles for almost two hours, and it was completely dark by then. The noodle shop owner was getting anxious. Zhou Fengchen glanced at the clock on the wall and realized it was time. He quickly stood up and said, "Jiang Hao, pay and let's go!"
After leaving the noodle shop, the three found a secluded spot, where Zhou Fengchen used the "Tracking Talisman" again to find Chen Siya!
The tracking talisman drifted away into the distance, and Zhou Fengchen breathed a sigh of relief. The fact that the tracking talisman was still usable meant that the person was still alive.
Fearing he might be knocked down by some fool, he ran ahead, with Yuanzhi and the monk following behind.
After running for more than an hour, we arrived at the old town. We turned a corner in the old town and came to a dark, Republican-era courtyard. The "tracking talisman" landed there.
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi slapped their foreheads when they saw that Huanhe Park was right next to them, and the City God Temple was just a short distance away.
Jiang Hao stared wide-eyed, "How did you end up in the Shen family compound?"
"Never mind whose compound it is!" Zhou Fengchen pointed: "Search it first!"
This large courtyard, whose origins are unknown, looks antique and elegant. The large wooden gate is locked, and there is a sign next to the gate: National Key Protected Cultural Relics Site.
The three of them didn't dare to ram the door, so they climbed over the wall. The courtyard had artificial hills, flowing water, and a lotus pond, which looked quite classical, but it felt too fake, a bit like it was built later.
When they arrived at a cluster of old houses, Zhou Fengchen took out two talismans and handed them to Monk Yuanzhi and his companion. "Take one for self-defense. We'll split up and search. If you encounter a fox, don't make a sound. Wait for me to get there."
The two nodded in agreement, and the three parted ways.
Zhou Fengchen walked through the middle, searching each room one by one. Every room was empty; at a glance, there was nowhere to hide. At most, there were a few old chairs and old beds.
After searching for twenty minutes, the three met in front of the last main house and looked at each other in bewilderment.
Zhou Fengchen asked anxiously, "Is there one?"
The two shook their heads: "We've looked everywhere, but it's not there!"
"Where's the fox?"
"I didn't see it!"
"How strange!" Zhou Fengchen kicked open the door. Inside was a bedroom with only a few withered bonsai trees, a large bed, and a few chairs.
Zhou Fengchen plopped down in a chair. "That doesn't make sense! The tracking talisman points right here."
Monk Yuanzhi sat down beside him and said, "Could there be some kind of inside information?"
Zhou Fengchen shook his head with a wry smile, "If a fox could pull off such intricate schemes, I'd be impressed!"
Monk Yuanzhi scratched his head. "What should we do?"
Zhou Fengchen was also helpless. "If all else fails, we can only wait until late at night, when the yin energy rises, and then I will perform a ritual to see if there is anything unclean or where that old fox is."
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Hao shuddered. "Brother, please don't say that. This place is haunted; it's really scary."
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi perked up. "What do you mean? What's this place called again?"
Jiang Hao swallowed hard and whispered, "The Shen family compound is notoriously haunted! I was almost scared to death just now!"
