"And she even said things like Vashj had a crush on Illidan, that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and that she would follow Illidan in the future," Tyrande said with a smile.
If Illidan could actually get together with Maiev, that would be a good thing, at least the two enemies could be reconciled. But if it's Vashj, then forget it!
Or rather, Tyrande felt that if Vashj had any crush on anyone, it should be Rhodes. As for magical skill, Illidan was nowhere near as good as him.
“I don’t know either! I don’t even know Illidan. I only know him from history books. I only know that he was a hero who fought against the Burning Legion,” Rhodes said with a shrug.
In World of Warcraft, players have actually fabricated many rumored girlfriends for Illidan, also known as Eggman. The two most famous ones are Maschi of the Highborne and Maiev Shadowsong.
Vashj was once a handmaiden of Queen Azshara. After the Great Sundering 1 years ago, most of the Highborne fell into the sea and received N'Zoth's power, becoming the Naga of the Deep Sea.
The reason she was rumored to be having an affair with Illidan was because she came out of the sea to help Illidan, but this was actually an order from the Old Gods or Queen Azshara.
Moreover, if we're talking about loyal subjects, Vashj is even more loyal to Azshara. There are various descriptions and hints in the War of the Ancients that Azshara's handmaids deeply loved their master.
As for the other one, Maiev Shadowsong, that's even more absurd. He's the one who most wanted Illidan dead, and Illidan had done too many things to hurt him.
If they had truly been close after 1 years together, she wouldn't have gone to Outland to personally kill Illidan.
"That's not necessarily true. You certainly didn't experience the War of the Ancients, but I have a feeling that you know me and Malfurion, you know Illidan, and you are very familiar with us."
"I used to think that we would become familiar with each other ten thousand years from now, which is now, and that's why you know the three of us so well, but it seems that's not the case now," Tyrande said.
Tyrande snorted coldly upon hearing this. This kid gave himself away with his very first sentence, because he said that he hadn't told him these things, had he?
Therefore, he knew a lot about the Highborne elves and Illidan, things that wouldn't be recorded in history textbooks, especially about the exiled Highborne elves.
“Let’s go! There will be a battle ahead, but I think you should be able to handle it!” Tyrande said.
“No problem, I can summon some Holy Light Elementals.” Rhodes nodded to Tyrande, then took out a fire elemental magic scroll and summoned nine Holy Light Elementals.
The two entered the mysterious underground cave together. Tyrande took out a large bow and arrow, while Rhode cast a fireball spell to clear out some fel-infected creatures in the cave.
"These spiders have mutated, and the problem of fel infection is significant."
"Then we need to act quickly."
"However, there is also good news. Because Lord Cenarius awakened the druids ahead of schedule, some of the enemies here have already been eliminated."
Along the way, the two cleared out a large number of fel spiders, but did not encounter any bear monsters. It seems that when the Claw Druid awoke earlier, he had already helped them save the shaman and led them to retreat.
After traveling for some time, Tyrande and Rhodes arrived at a secluded cave with a large, dark iron gate. This was where Illidan was imprisoned.
Two watchmen, clad in full armor and fully armed, were on duty at the entrance.
"Lady Tyrande, what brings you here?" a Watcher asked immediately upon seeing Tyrande.
“Watcher, I bring the demigod’s command.” Tyrande produced the demigod’s warrant.
"What are your orders, demigod?" The two Watchers exchanged a glance and then asked.
"The Burning Legion has invaded our world once again, and I think you should be well aware of that."
"Fel energy has infiltrated Mount Hyjal, affecting some of the creatures here. My purpose in coming here is to release Illidan, who fought the Burning Legion 1 years ago," Tyrande explained her purpose.
"Lady Tyrande, are you sure this is the demigod's order, and not your own decision?" the Watcher in front of him said with an unfriendly expression.
"And why did you bring a strange creature with you? Why wasn't it Lord Malfurion or some other druid or jungle guardian who accompanied you?"
“Rhodes is Lord Cenarius’s disciple, so he’s not an outsider, nor is he some strange creature,” Tyrande said.
“No one can release that demon without orders from Master Mavis Shadowsong,” the Watcher said bluntly.
Tyrande's face immediately turned ugly. Having been the de facto leader of the night elves for 1 years, no other night elf had ever spoken to her like this.
It seems that Ma Weiyingge is a woman who is inherently at odds with her, someone she is destined to be incompatible with.
Over the course of ten thousand years, she tried many times to repair their relationship, but the other party never gave her the time of day.
Chapter 131 Avoiding Bloodshed, First Encounter with Illidan
Tyrande's tone turned cold, and the majesty of her status as the High Priestess of the Moon and leader of the Night Elves naturally emanated from her.
"Warden, are you questioning Lord Cenarius's orders, or my authority? The Burning Legion's iron hooves are about to trample our holy land; now is not the time to be bound by old rules!"
She unfolded Cenarius's token, which not only bore the natural mark of a demigod but also exuded a vast demigod aura, making it impossible to fake.
Rhodes shrugged helplessly. Was another fight about to break out? Actually, Tyrande's personality was quite ruthless.
He may appear gentle, but when it comes to killing Watchers, he shows absolutely no mercy.
When players are joking about Tyrande's dark history, this incident is a key point. They are all fellow Night Elves, so there was no need to be so ruthless!
However, Maiev Shadowsong was also ruthless towards Tyrande. During the Battle of the Frozen Throne, this woman even tried to kill Tyrande.
The loss of Sargeras's personal guard at the Tomb of Sargeras was a significant blow to him.
Rhodes sighed, intending to stop this tragic internal conflict. If the Watchers were extremely uncooperative, Rhodes planned to unleash some special magic.
During this time, he was not idle. With the accumulation of a large amount of resources, Rhode had already created the altar of spiritual elements in just 10 days.
Now, the only unit missing from the Elemental City is the Phoenix Nest, and the Magic Guild has also been upgraded to level 1. The demigod Cenarius has also used the power of the entire Night Elf community to collect some resources for Rhodes.
Rhodes learned several new level-one spells: Holy Spirit Protection, Exorcism Spell, Magic Arrow, Attack Speed Enhancement, and Water Manipulation.
The Magic Arrow was something he already possessed, but he could only use it himself. Now, this magic can be shared with other heroes.
If a fight breaks out, Rhodes plans to first cast an attack speed boost on himself, and then use blindness to temporarily deal with these Watchers.
At least don't kill indiscriminately. These Watchers don't need to die at your and Tyrande's hands. Of course, the best thing is to avoid conflict altogether.
Long live a peaceful resolution!
The two Watchers looked at each other again, their eyes filled with struggle. They were loyal to their duty, but even more loyal to their direct superior, Mave Shadowsong.
However, the orders of the demigod Cenarius and Tyrande's identity were equally unquestionable, and the entire night elf community greatly worshipped the demigod Cenarius.
“Lady Tyrande, we are not questioning you or the demigods.” One of the Watchers softened his tone, but still stood firmly in front of the door.
"However, Illidan Stormrage is an extremely dangerous and serious offender, and his release must go through the most rigorous procedures."
Master Mawei repeatedly emphasized that no one was allowed to approach this place without her personal permission, let alone release him. "We...we cannot disobey our master's direct orders."
"Where is Mave now?" Tyrande asked, barely suppressing her anger.
"As you know, the fel infection has been quite severe recently. The master is currently inspecting other outposts and clearing out nearby monsters contaminated by fel energy. We are unable to contact her immediately."
“By the time she returns, it may be too late!” Tyrande stepped forward and said, “Archimonde and his demon army will not wait for us to complete all the procedures! Open the door immediately, that’s an order! I will take full responsibility for the consequences.”
The Watcher gripped the moon wheel tightly, his body tense, clearly caught in a great dilemma. The air seemed to freeze, and conflict was about to erupt.
Damn it, maybe I shouldn't have brought Rhodes alone this time. I should have brought my guards. Tyrande already has murderous intent towards these Watchers.
Just then, Rhodes gently patted Tyrande on the shoulder, stepped forward, and looked at the two nervous Watchers with a smile.
"Two esteemed Lady Watchers, I understand your duty and loyalty, and it is right that you are concerned about Illidan's danger."
"Your mistress, Mavis, is admirable, but with all due respect, the Burning Legion is the common and imminent enemy of all of us," Rhodes said, stepping forward.
"And do you really think that behind this door is just a prisoner waiting to be executed or imprisoned forever?"
No, it is a weapon, a sharp blade forged specifically to slay demons, yet sealed away for ten thousand years.
"Now that the demon has arrived, it is the time for him to be unsheathed. To keep him locked up here is a huge waste of resources and irresponsible towards the safety of Azeroth." Rhode tried to persuade the Watchers.
He originally wanted to portray Illidan as a hero, but the Watchers had a rather hostile attitude towards him, so he decided to call him a weapon instead!
“You make it sound so easy, human!” one of the Watchers retorted. “You have no idea how dangerous he is, or what he’s done!”
Rhodes rolled his eyes upon hearing this. "I don't know what Illidan did. It's precisely because I know what Illidan did that I know how wronged this guy is."
So what if they planted a second Well of Eternity? You don't think the Burning Legion won't target Azeroth if there isn't a second Well of Eternity, do you?
The creatures on Azeroth are not the key; the real key is a certain star soul sleeping beneath Azeroth, the most powerful star soul in this setting.
“I know, I know he’s trying to create a new Well of Eternity, I know he’s willing to embrace fel energy for power.”
But I also know that during the War of the Ancients, it was he who infiltrated the Burning Legion, he who provided crucial intelligence, and he who ultimately helped close the portal.
Merits and demerits, right and wrong, isn't 10,000 years of imprisonment enough to atone for sins?
Or is it that your duty as Watchers has been reduced to simply guarding, and you have forgotten what kind of enemy you were originally formed to fight?
"It doesn't matter if the Burning Legion destroys this world? If so, then I think I overestimated you Watchers before I came here."
The two Watchers exchanged a glance, a hint of struggle in their eyes. After all, this was a demigod's order, and the Burning Legion had indeed returned, a fact now known throughout the Night Elf community.
“How about we do a simple test?” Rhodes suggested. “You’re worried that he’ll go out of control and endanger others once he’s out.”
So, open the door, and Ms. Tyrande and I will go in. If he makes any unusual moves, or if you feel he is out of control, you can close the door immediately, or even... take the necessary measures.
With Tyrande and me here, along with you elite Watchers, how could we not control a prisoner who has been imprisoned for ten thousand years and whose power has not yet been restored?
"Isn't this much less serious than disobeying the orders of a demigod, delaying the battle, and causing the fall of Mount Hyjal and even the entire Azeroth?" Rhodes said.
The proposal sounds reasonable, giving the Watchers a way out while minimizing the risks they perceive.
The two Watchers exchanged glances again, and after a long silence, the one who seemed to be more senior finally nodded with difficulty.
"...Alright! We can open the door and let you in, but only the two of you, and we'll be on high alert the whole time. If anything seems amiss, we'll act immediately." She emphasized the word "act," implying that they would kill without mercy.
This is their bottom line. They can explain this to Ms. Mawei when she returns.
“Okay, but only Rhodes and I will go into Illidan’s cell,” Tyrande agreed immediately.
The two Watchers exchanged a glance and then nodded.
The heavy iron gates, creaking under the influence of magic and mechanisms, slowly opened to both sides. Tyrande took a deep breath and stepped inside without hesitation, followed closely by Rhodes.
After entering the Watchers' Vault, there were a large number of Watchers inside, in addition to the two gatekeepers. It took some effort to persuade these Watchers.
The demigod's orders played a significant role in this. Rhodes realized that at least one faction of the night elves was on guard, and Tyrande's reputation had reached rock bottom; no one would listen to the orders of this high priestess of the moon.
Tyrande's face was grim the whole way. Rhodes could clearly feel a murderous intent emanating from Tyrande. Luckily, he had come with her. If it had been any other Sentinel unit, Tyrande would have already given the order to kill.
This person is not the naive and innocent character that players think she is, but a ruthless and vicious character who has lived for 1 years and served as a leader for 1 years. Even the stupidest person would become shrewd.
Led by a group of Watchers, the two arrived at the cell where Illidan was imprisoned, with hundreds of Watchers fully armed and on guard outside.
Rhodes and Tyrande, on the other hand, were taken to their cells.
“Rhodes, if they don’t let Illidan go, I want you to kill them,” Tyrande said, turning to Rhodes.
“Things haven’t come to that, Tyrande. I won’t help you kill indiscriminately,” Rhodes said, shaking his head.
"Unless you want Illidan to do it."
