Chapter 6: Killing the Chicken to Warn the Monkey King, the Great Sage's Overt Scheme
Chen Fan looked at Sun Wukong's eyes, which seemed to be spitting fire, but his expression remained unusually calm.
"Great Sage, think about it, why does this Demon King dare to act so arrogantly in your Flower Fruit Mountain?"
"Isn't it just because you're being suppressed that you think your title of Great Sage Equal to Heaven is a thing of the past?"
Sun Wukong's demonic aura surged, but he did not act impulsively. He gritted his teeth and waited for Chen Fan to continue.
"Therefore, we cannot kill him silently."
Chen Fan held up one finger.
"First, we want him to die in a way that everyone knows about, a death that is gruesome and unbearable to witness!"
"We'll show all the villains in the Three Realms who have designs on Flower Fruit Mountain what the consequences will be if they dare to touch your monkey offspring!"
He then extended a second finger.
"Secondly, didn't he enjoy enslaving his monkey subjects? Let's let him make one last contribution to Flower Fruit Mountain before he dies."
The blood red in Sun Wukong's eyes faded somewhat, replaced by a thoughtful expression.
"What contributions?"
Chen Fan grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, a smile that made the old monkey next to him shudder.
"I heard that there is a Guanyin Zen Temple near Huaguo Mountain."
"The monks there are all hypocritical, spouting 'compassion and mercy,' but they do nothing but shady things. And your monkey descendants have been bullied for so many years, have they ever said a word? Or lent a hand even once?"
"They watched helplessly as the devil committed atrocities, while they themselves indulged in vegetarianism, chanting Buddhist prayers, and enjoying the incense offerings."
"What's the point of keeping such a hypocritical place?"
Chen Fan's voice wasn't loud, but every word was piercing.
"Great Sage, you have just escaped your predicament, and your monkey subjects have been hungry for so long. It is time for them to replenish their energy."
"In that Guanyin Temple, there must be mountains of grain, elixirs, gold, and silver piled up, right?"
Sun Wukong's fiery eyes lit up instantly, and he completely understood Chen Fan's meaning.
"You mean...we'll make that charcoal-faced guy the villain for me, Old Sun?"
"That's right!" Chen Fan nodded. "We need to force him, along with his little demons, to empty the Guanyin Temple for us!"
"This is called using someone else to do your dirty work, or making use of waste."
"After it's done, we'll reap the benefits and then we can throw all the blame on that scoundrel. When the Buddhist sect wants to cause trouble, they'll only go after him, the culprit."
"And all we need to do is make our appearance last, and in front of everyone, finish him off, ridding the people of this scourge."
"In this way, we gain both substance and face, and we also make sure that your Great Sage Equaling Heaven's first battle back in the Three Realms demonstrates the spirit of 'righteousness'!"
"Great! Great! Great!" Sun Wukong was so excited that he scratched his head and cheeks.
He slapped Chen Fan on the shoulder and burst into laughter.
"Brother! Your brain is more precious than the Dragon King of the East Sea's treasure trove! Let's do it this way!"
"I, Old Sun, want to see the faces of those bald monks when they see a monster coming to their door!"
Sun Wukong, true to his word, asked the old monkey, "Where is the Water Curtain Cave? Lead the way!"
"Your Majesty, this way please!"
The old monkey dared not delay and quickly led the way.
Chen Fan followed behind Sun Wukong, surrounded by a group of monkeys, and marched in a grand procession toward the Water Curtain Cave.
The once magnificent waterfall now has a weak flow and has lost its magic, but the cave entrance remains.
Before we even got close, we could hear a noisy commotion coming from inside the cave.
"Minions, fill the cups! I'm in a good mood today, let's have another monkey head wine."
A rough voice came from inside the cave.
Sun Wukong was furious. He stood at the cave entrance, took a deep breath, and roared inside.
"You charcoal-headed wretch inside, get out here and face your death!"
The sound was like thunder, piercing through the entire Water Curtain Cave, even causing the waterfall's flow to be shaken and swirled upwards!
The commotion inside the cave abruptly ceased.
Immediately afterwards, a chaotic clattering sound of ping-pong balls rang out.
A monster dressed in an animal skin skirt, with a face full of scars, rushed out of the cave carrying a large knife; it was none other than the Mischievous Demon King.
He was followed by dozens of strangely shaped little demons.
"Who dares to disturb this great king! They've got some nerve!"
Before the Demon King could finish speaking, he saw Sun Wukong standing at the entrance of the cave.
He was taken aback at first, then recognized the face that had filled him with both respect and fear for the past five hundred years.
"弼马温 (Bima Wen)?!"
The mischievous devil was so frightened that he almost dropped the knife in his hand.
"Why...why did you come out?!"
Sun Wukong ignored him and scanned the lesser demons behind him with his fiery eyes. They were holding several trembling little monkeys in their hands, seemingly preparing them as snacks to go with their drinks.
"very good."
Sun Wukong squeezed out two words through gritted teeth.
The next second, he moved.
Only a fleeting afterimage remained in place; the true form had already appeared before the Demon King.
The Demon King felt a gust of evil wind rush towards him, but before he could even raise his sword to block it, he was caught off guard.
"Bang!"
Sun Wukong kicked him in the chest.
The Demon King's massive body flew back like a cannonball, smashing a stone table in the cave, rolling on the ground, and spitting out mouthfuls of blood.
The little demons were all terrified, their legs trembling so badly they could barely hold their weapons.
"Your Majesty...please spare us! We were forced into this!"
"Yes, Great Sage! It has nothing to do with us!"
Sun Wukong ignored them and walked step by step toward the Demon King of Chaos.
With each step, the pebbles on the ground seemed to bounce, and the terrifying demonic aura forced all the lesser demons to their knees, unable to move.
"You...you stay away!"
The mischievous devil struggled to get up, only to find that his sternum was completely shattered and he couldn't exert any strength at all.
He looked at Sun Wukong, who was like a god of death, with fear in his eyes.
"Great Sage Sun, spare my life! I was blind and didn't recognize your greatness! I'll never dare to do it again!"
He desperately kowtowed and begged for mercy.
"Spare you?" Sun Wukong stomped on his face, burying his entire head into the ground.
"Can you spare my poor monkey offspring?" "Can you spare every blade of grass and every tree on Flower Fruit Mountain?"
With each word Sun Wukong spoke, he increased the force of his footing.
The devil's head was deformed by being trampled on the hard stone ground, and he let out a muffled groan of extreme pain.
"Great Sage...spare...spare my life..."
"Want to live?" Sun Wukong raised his foot and looked down at him.
"I want to live!" The mischievous devil nodded repeatedly as if he had grasped at a straw.
"Okay." Sun Wukong grinned, revealing his gleaming white teeth.
"I'm giving you a chance to redeem yourself."
He pointed down the mountain.
"Do you see that Guanyin Temple?"
"I'm giving you one hour to take your useless henchmen and empty that place for me, Old Sun!"
"Food, treasure, and elixirs—we must have them all!"
"What if one thing was missing, or if we were a step too late..."
Sun Wukong raised the imitation iron rod in his hand and waved it in front of the Demon King.
"I, Old Sun, will personally send you on your way!"
The Demon King was so terrified when he saw the iron rod that exuded a terrifying aura that he was scared out of his wits and dared not utter a single word of dissent.
"Yes! Yes! I will definitely do it! I will definitely do it!"
He scrambled to his feet and roared at the group of terrified little demons behind him.
"What the hell are you all standing there for! Grab your weapons! Come with me!"
The group of lesser demons, feeling as if they had been granted a pardon, quickly helped up the Mischievous Demon King and scrambled out of the Water Curtain Cave, heading towards the Guanyin Temple.
Watching their departing figures, Chen Fan walked out from the monkey troop.
"Great Sage, the show is about to begin!"
