Chapter 418 Hal: I'm super, Bat Parallax Laughing Demon
"Mr. Thomas, would you like a cup of coffee?"
An outsider stood beside the night owl.
It was another sleepless night, just like the countless days and nights they had experienced before.
For so many years, he had been Thomas Wayne’s most loyal servant. Outsiders knew that Thomas Wayne was never weak; he was always wise, shrewd, ruthless, and cold-blooded. He was even more cold-blooded than his wicked parents, and that was precisely what outsiders admired about him.
An outsider placed a steaming cup of coffee in front of Night Owl, who was sitting in front of the Owl computer. The coffee even had a simple owl design on it.
As he put the coffee down, he looked up and saw on the screen of the owl computer that Batman was simultaneously possessed by Parallax and Ion Shark, with each of the two giant lampbeasts carrying two thigh appendages.
"Please use it."
"That's what the outsider said. But Night Owl didn't pick up the coffee and put it in his mouth."
The evil version of the old butler, Alfred, only saw the night owl turn his head and stare at him expressionlessly, a very oppressive action, even though the night owl had no intention of doing so.
The outsider remained silent for a moment.
"Are you remotely controlling your armor again?"
They used to be very close... once upon a time.
However, since a certain day, Night Owl has almost never revealed his true form to anyone, instead using remotely controlled armor as a substitute, even when facing Superpower and Outsiders.
"Can't you just see me?"
"That's what the outsider asked."
He realized that Night Owl, in his remote-controlled armored form, couldn't drink the coffee he had spent a long time preparing, nor could he eat the snacks that hadn't been served yet.
His chin under his helmet was merely a bionic human biological structure; when that buttock-shaped chin opened its mouth, it would only unleash a deadly energy weapon attack.
But the outsider was still very happy because he knew that Night Owl's armor had the effect of simulating a real person. The armor was equipped with almost all the simulation methods that Night Owl knew. Not to mention faking eating and drinking tea, it would not be exposed even in front of Superpower. However, he did not activate the camouflage program in front of him, even though the armor was empty.
He stopped dwelling on those things and turned his gaze back to the screen. Then he paused:
"You really..."
Are you really planning to do that?
"Obviously, that's true."
"This is too risky, sir, you..."
But before the outsider could finish speaking, he immediately heard Nightwing Dick Grayson's sexy face appear on the secondary screen of the Owl computer next to him.
He was dressed flamboyantly, in a V-neck Nightwing suit, not the flashy disco kind. He had a serious expression on his face, as if he really had something important to discuss with Night Owl.
The outsider's pale face immediately darkened. Even the pallor caused by the Joker's potion couldn't completely make his grumpy face look better.
The outsider was almost speaking with disgust, but managed to maintain his usual politeness.
"Please wait a moment."
He opened the communicator and started rambling with Nightwing. He quickly gained the upper hand, but outsiders knew he would be back at any moment.
The outsider hung up the call.
"Mr. Thomas," he said, "what you are doing now is extremely dangerous. The anti-surveillance agents require a..."
"A universe powerful enough for him to destroy, regardless of its strength."
Night Owl interrupted the other, saying, "If my plan succeeds, all living beings in the entire universe will become incredibly powerful. Combining the power of all living beings might force Darkseid's prophecy to compromise."
"But doing so could very well result in you adding a couple more spoonfuls of pebbles to the diner's pot, causing him to break a tooth and then enraging him. Do you really think you can still hide your actions from him then?"
The outsider said, "If you've already decided to sacrifice this universe to save our world, then why do all this unnecessary work? You should know that neither you nor I seem to be able to compare with our world."
The owl remained silent.
After a while, he suddenly said, "I hinted to Luther part of my plan to sacrifice this universe."
"You to...you..."
The outsider was speechless for a moment; he couldn't find the words to describe the other person's behavior.
He asked, "Why?"
"I want to enhance the power of this universe as much as possible."
"You ask me why I told Luther he's one of the smartest people in the universe," Night Owl said. "He might find a way to stop me."
The outsider fell silent for a long time before finally saying, "It's guilt, isn't it?"
"Yes." Night Owl nodded in agreement.
"I am not a butcher who slaughters the entire universe unless I have no other choice."
"Night Owl said."
"So I want to give it a try. I want to see if this universe can bring surprises, if it can help me defeat it."
"If not..."
The two of them fell silent for a moment.
Outsiders know perfectly well that Night Owl is trying to prove something. If he can prove that even with all its might, this universe cannot fight against the Anti-Monitor, then Night Owl can sacrifice this universe without any remorse, as if it were perfectly justified.
He didn't know why Night Owl had become so hypocritical. In the past, he never cared about other people's opinions, nor did he feel any guilt.
Someone must have changed him, or is this simply his true nature, a suppressed nature?
"This is an extremely dangerous operation," the outsider said. "What if the counter-surveillance agents discover what you've done..."
"Then don't let him find out," Night Owl said. "A universe that refuses to be devoured by him can unleash unimaginable potential, can't it? I just need this universe to become stronger, by whatever means necessary."
He said, "Perfect timing, I have something I need you to do. I plan to transform them all into—"
"Night Owl"
On the screen, a communication interrupted Night Owl's words.
The owl turned its head and saw General Zod's face appear above it.
"The matter is now settled."
He stood in the boundless universe, surrounded by thousands of Green Lanterns, with the most powerful planetary Green Lantern, Mogo, beside him.
He said, "Now I need your help."
……
……
……
"Hal..."
Sinestro's voice echoed in Hal Jordan's mind again, a voice that haunted his thoughts like a death knell.
Perhaps it was mockery, perhaps it was boasting, but he recalled the words Seneca had said to him when he was imprisoned.
Those words about parallax monsters, about the future and dreams...
Even now, Hal can still recall Senis's earnest plea for him to join him, to help him, and to bring a new order to the universe.
But Hal knew he had refused.
He knew Blood Slaughter Bull, and even if he left in a huff, Hal was never the type to just walk away without knowing anything.
Chen Tao chose Hal to be the backup leader of the Justice League for a reason. Although Hal used to be impulsive and immature, when he decided to become the leader, he would transform from the biggest troublemaker into the second Batman.
Hal was fully aware of the immense control that aggregators of willpower energy like the Lamp Beasts could exert over living beings, and he also knew exactly how suitable Sinestro was as a host for such a willpower-driven Lamp Beast.
He knows very well that Batman once fought Darkseid, right? He himself once acted as Batman's living battery.
But Batman doesn't have his help right now.
Batman has always been like this; he has never liked being helped by others.
At this moment, he was all alone and had been lured into a trap by Seneca.
Sinestro told him so much, about him, about his plans, and a fire was burning in Hal's heart. So many times, it had always been Batman protecting him, protecting others, giving them orders, but finally one day, finally this time.
It's Hal Jordan's turn to save Batman.
Hal Jordan thought to himself.
He quickly used the Green Lantern Ring to open a wormhole and moved at faster-than-light speed, without even waiting for his companions to catch up with him.
He then opened the last portal.
Then he saw Batman enveloped in yellow energy, laughing wildly with his head thrown back, clutching... a corpse beside him.
"Hahahahahahaha..."
Hal knew that Batman always loved to laugh; he never stopped laughing.
But at least Batman didn't laugh as terrifyingly as he does now in the past, at least not in Hal's memory.
He saw Batman grinning so hard his gums were showing, like a happy beast.
Hal looked down and saw the corpses of Green Lanterns and Yellow Lanterns lying haphazardly in space.
"Holy crap!" He gasped.
"Parallelism Batman!"
……
……
……
General Zod was surrounded by a large number of Green Lanterns in the center.
This is a well-organized Greenlight group of over 2000 people. Even though Hal Jordan left with four of his most elite Greenlight colleagues just minutes before, the forces left behind were still enough to wipe out General Zod and his group.
In fact, if the enemy hadn't already controlled the powerful planetary Green Lantern Mogo, Kilowog wouldn't have even bothered sending so many Green Lanterns to participate in the battle to kill General Zod. There was no need, you know? With just General Zod and his two companions, three Kryptonians, why would they need such a large force?
"You know what? I've never thought much of you."
He heard General Zod's voice: "A seasoned Green Lantern, ending up following a young one's lead? Are you kidding me?"
He said, "Are you sure you're his senior?"
"Surrender obediently."
"Kilowog said."
He was not affected by General Zod's words. As the other party said, he was a veteran Green Lantern and therefore a battle-hardened warrior.
This level of pre-battle trash talk wasn't enough to stir his emotions; more importantly...
He gave a few tactical hand signals to the other Green Lantern members behind his back. Although Green Lanterns are forbidden from socializing in private, the Guardians of the Universe wouldn't be foolish enough to forbid them from training together and teaming up for attacks. And Kirowog was the Green Lantern Corps' head instructor, responsible for this.
Therefore, although Mogo's strength is many times that of an ordinary Green Lantern, if they work together properly, Kirowog is fully confident that they can successfully capture their opponent.
"Form tactical squares!"
He gave orders to the other Green Lanterns, and before General Zod could make a move, huge chains were quickly sent flying from the rings in the hands of the other Green Lanterns toward Planet Green Lantern Mogo.
Under General Zod's control, Mogo unleashed a massive surge of Green Lantern energy in an attempt to resist the chains. However, these chains were composed of countless tiny chains materialized from Green Lanterns and were not afraid to clash head-on with Mogo's power alone.
Amidst the deafening roar, Green Lantern Mo's burst of green energy collided with the chains formed by 2000 Green Lanterns, quickly shattering him before he was bound by those chains.
Moreover, Kilowog could see that Mogo was struggling to resist General Zod's control; otherwise, if Mogo were at full strength, his 2000 colleagues would not have been able to bind him so easily.
They should be able to end the battle soon.
The battle was shorter than Kilowog had anticipated. Hal Jordan was merely the vanguard; after resolving the issues here and recalling Mogo, the Green Lantern Corps' most powerful member, they had to set off immediately back to OA to find out what had happened.
Hal had already relayed Sinestro's plot to them. Although they still had doubts about what exactly the Lamp Beast of the Emotional Spectrum was, since they hadn't witnessed Blood Slaughter Bull like Hal Jordan had, just hearing Hal Jordan's account was enough to make them take it seriously.
must……
"Danger……"
Kilowog suddenly felt a sharp, familiar throbbing pain in his head. He realized that a Green Lantern was communicating with him using a Green Lantern ring, and that the Green Lantern possessed immense mental power and didn't know how to control it. The person communicating with him was…
Mogo?
"Danger!"
"Run!"
Kilowog finally understood what Mogo was trying to convey. Looking at the composed General Zod, he suddenly felt alarmed and inexplicably panicked.
But this makes no sense. Their forces far outnumber the enemy's, and even Mogo is about to be captured due to his own resistance and the cooperation of many Green Lanterns.
What other way can General Zod turn the tide?
"you guess……"
Then he heard the other person say, "Guess why I let Hal Jordan leave?"
Behind him, the portal to the Phantom Zone slowly opened once again.
"Night Owl"
He said, "Can you do me a favor?"
At first, Kilowog didn't understand what he was going to do, but then he felt a huge suction force coming towards them from the Phantom Zone.
"Damn it!"
