Chapter 52 The Big Gray Wolf
Chapter 52 The Big Gray Wolf
As Luo Lan delved deeper into the subject.
The slime on the ground was decreasing, and the remains of walking mushrooms began to appear on the ground.
The scene before me resembled a mushroom slaughterhouse, ravaged by a pack of extremely destructive wild beasts.
The air in the rifts smelled not only of moldy spores, but also of a pungent, bloody, and sour stench.
"roar--"
A series of heavy and wild roars echoed through the corners of the cave.
Luo Lan pressed himself against the rock wall, activated [Heat Vision], and peeked out from around the corner to observe.
The open area beyond the corner of the cave was a complete and utter chaotic mess.
A dozen or so burly dire wolves were indulging in a wild frenzy.
The Demon Wolf is nearly twice the size of the wild wolves on Earth, with a dark gray-black coat and bulging muscles. It truly deserves the title "Gray Wolf".
Due to the chaotic distortion, bony spikes grew on its back, which in turn absorbed the chaotic energy drifting in the air of the rift, strengthening itself.
Name: Demon Wolf
[Tier: Iron+]
Specialty: Chaos Erosion
[Skills: Claw Strike Lv.2, Bite Lv.2, Berserk Lv.1]
Under the influence of the demonic tide, these demonic wolves were drooling viscous saliva, their eyes were cloudy, and they had lost their minds.
Among the wolf pack, a one-eyed demon wolf was clearly the alpha wolf, larger than the average demon wolf, and led the pack in hunting.
Led by the one-eyed alpha wolf, the wolves, in twos and threes, ran rampant around the arena like a pack of mad dogs, viciously attacking any lone walking mushrooms that dared to stalk them.
Claws tear the cap apart, fangs crush the stem.
The chaotic scene was extremely bloody. Some of the dire wolves, fighting over the same piece of mushroom remains, almost lost their ability to distinguish friend from foe, and began tearing each other apart in a brutal melee, splattering foul-smelling blood everywhere.
It appears to be a one-sided massacre of the mushrooms by the dire wolves.
But after observing intently for a few seconds, Luo Lan keenly noticed something was amiss.
Several demon wolves that had devoured the most walking mushrooms had actually sprouted colorful little mushrooms on their backs and wounds.
This bizarre spore parasitism caused the once robust and powerful demon wolves to become unsteady on their feet, twitching and listless.
The stronger dire wolves were parasitized by the mushrooms and became weaker, so the dire wolves behind them pushed past the stronger ones to grab more mushrooms.
After a while, these wolves that had risen to power were also parasitized by mushroom spores. And so it went, over and over again.
It's hard to say whether the ecological cycle during the demonic tide in this rift is a feast for the demonic wolves or a victory for the mushrooms' reproductive frenzy.
Those mushrooms... they weren't anything good after all.
Luo Lan cursed inwardly, thankful that she hadn't underestimated those walking mushrooms or gotten entangled with them.
Luo Lan observed the demon wolves, and the demon wolves, with their keen sense of smell, naturally noticed Luo Lan as well.
Compared to the mushrooms we're tired of eating, the imported ones are definitely more delicious.
"roar!!"
The one-eyed demon wolf, the leader of the pack, let out a low growl, its foul-smelling saliva dripping onto the ground in long, thin streams. With a powerful push of its limbs, it opened its blood-red maw, wide enough to swallow a human head, and charged madly at Luo Lan, bringing with it a stench.
As if receiving a signal, the surrounding wolves instantly turned their guns around, forming a semi-circular encirclement around Luo Lan.
"Cat, advance to battle level!"
Luo Lan gave a low shout, and the magical cross pendant hanging on his chest flashed with light, sending several thick white bones flying out from his storage space.
The little Ragdoll cat that was originally perched on my shoulder immediately deactivated its [Optical Camouflage] and channeled all its energy into the battle.
As the disguise was removed, the white fur receded like ripples on water, revealing a metal skeleton glowing with a ghostly blue light.
The kitten nimbly leaped toward the bone that Luo Lanxin had just thrown into the air.
"Click-clack".
A series of mechanical assembly sounds rang out.
Before it even landed, Victor's [Dead Remains Assembled] consciousness carrier completed its reorganization in mid-air, and the kitten's size exploded, transforming directly into a large skeletal dog emitting eerie blue flames.
"Ah Gou, bite them!"
Victor, who had transformed into a skeleton dog, darted out like an arrow after receiving the command.
The Azure Skull Hound was directly confronted by a powerful demonic wolf that was a whole size larger than itself.
Despite not being the largest, the undead body controlled by Victor's specialty, Precision Manipulation, exhibited a level of agility that defied all logic.
Every dodge was executed at a meticulously calculated angle, and every pounce was aimed at vital points with cunning precision.
The skeleton dog deftly avoided the demon wolf's fatal throat bite, and its two front paws, which seemed to be cast in metal, directly carved two deep, bone-revealing blue tracks into the demon wolf's tough flesh.
The undead and the monster instantly clashed.
Meanwhile, more demon wolves bypassed the skeleton hounds and headed straight for Luo Lan.
Luo Lan gripped his broadsword tightly with both hands, exerted force from his waist, and slammed it heavily onto the head of the one-eyed demon wolf that had been closing in first.
"Sizzle—"
With a dull thud, the one-eyed wolf was slashed backward by the immense force, plowing two deep furrows into the ground.
After being forced back by Luo Lan, the one-eyed wolf's cunning was on full display.
With a few low growls, it attracted three smaller wolves.
The demon wolf's murky eyes were filled with an extreme fervor for fresh flesh and blood, forming a perfect fan shape that blocked all of Luo Lan's escape routes.
Several gaping, foul-smelling maws drew ever closer, their sharp teeth wreathed in the chaotic, purplish-black aura of the demonic tide, ready to devour anyone in their path.
If someone were to take a bite of this, even if it only slightly scratches the skin, the wound would inevitably be eroded by the chaos.
It's conceivable that the horrifying wounds on the severely injured cat-man mage that Luo Lan saw in the tavern came from this.
There were four wolves in total, and they began to carry out a tacit relay battle based on their wild instincts.
One feinted an attack from the front, two scurried around looking for an opportunity, and a fourth kept trying to get into Luo Lan's blind spot.
"Clang! Clang! Clang... Pfft!"
The broadsword flashed through the air, creating a dense, impenetrable blur of light and shadow; the sounds of hilts striking and blades slicing through flesh intertwined. The demon wolves closed in one by one, only to be repelled one by one by Luo Lan.
In a short while, all the demonic wolves were wounded, but stimulated by the high concentration of chaotic energy during the demonic tide, they seemed to forget their pain and continued to pounce on Luo Lan.
The intense tug-of-war caused Luo Lan to inadvertently create an opening. Her boot sank into a patch of tattered fungal carpet, her foot sinking slightly and her steps faltering.
The three wolves, which had been lurking to the side and rear, seized the fleeting opening with pinpoint accuracy. Their powerful hind legs shattered the ground, and their bodies soared into the air like cannonballs.
Luo Lan swung his sword horizontally and struck the jawbone of the demon wolf on the left, knocking it off course by half a body length. At the same time, he pushed off the ground with his right foot to gain momentum, sheathed his sword, spun around, and pushed away the front paws of the demon wolf that was lunging at him from the front.
But when the third wolf from the right rear crashed in, Luo Lan was already too busy to move.
There was no time to dodge!
