Chapter 343 Withdrawal from Hong Kong Stocks
Chapter 343 Withdrawal from Hong Kong Stocks
January 12, 2000, 9:00 AM.
Central, Hong Kong.
In her hotel room, An Shiyu sat on the sofa by the window, holding her daughter. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a view of Victoria Harbour. In the distance, the mist had not yet lifted from Victoria Peak.
The little one, a year and a half old, was peering through the glass at the ships outside. A white cruise ship slowly sailed by, and she pointed and exclaimed, "Mommy, a ship!"
"Yes, the boat," An Shiyu replied.
Ling Yun stood to the side, holding his phone. He looked at the number and dialed it.
"Ziyu, I've arrived in Hong Kong and I'm at the hotel now. If you have time, please come to the hotel."
Half an hour later, the doorbell rang.
Ling Yun opened the door, and Li Ziyu stood outside, wearing a dark blue suit, his hair neatly combed, and a smile on his face.
"President Ling."
Ling Yun nodded and stepped aside.
When Li Ziyu came in, he was taken aback when he saw An Shiyu and her daughter. "My sister-in-law is here too. Oh, and my niece is here too."
As Li Ziyu spoke, he walked towards Ling Yutong, took out a jade pendant from his pocket, and put it on Ling Yutong's wrist. "I came in a hurry and didn't prepare a decent gift. Please forgive me, sister-in-law."
An Shiyu quickly refused, saying that the jade pendant was too valuable and she couldn't accept it.
Li Ziyu simply shook his head slightly, "This jade pendant is just right, it's not particularly valuable."
Li Ziyu sat down on the sofa, and Ling Yun sat down opposite him.
"Ling Yun," Li Ziyu said, "what's the matter that's so urgent?"
Ling Yun looked at him and said, "You need to liquidate all your Hang Seng Index futures positions."
Li Ziyu was taken aback. "All of them?"
"Um."
"What's the current price? Around 17000?"
Ling Yun nodded.
Li Ziyu was silent for a few seconds. "The market is so good right now, and a lot of people are rushing in. Should we exit now?"
Ling Yun nodded slightly. "We have a relatively large position, and it will take time to liquidate it. We also need enough counterparties. I estimate the highest point will exceed 18000 points, but we need to reduce our position in advance, reducing it as it rises. We need to completely liquidate our position at 18000 points."
Li Ziyu looked at him, processing Ling Yun's instructions, and waited a few seconds before asking, "Are you sure 18000 is the peak of this wave?"
"That's right, but don't be greedy. Hopefully, you can sell above 18000. With our long positions at 18000, there won't be enough counterparties, so start reducing your positions now."
Li Ziyu took a deep breath. "Okay," he said. "How do we clean it?"
"Equalize a portion each day, and it should take about a week to clear it all."
"clear."
"Convert your funds to US dollars; do not keep them in Hong Kong dollars."
Li Ziyu was taken aback. "Exchange all your money for US dollars? To invest in US stocks?"
"Um."
Li Ziyu looked at him, her eyes filled with a complex emotion. "Do you already have a new plan?"
Ling Yun nodded, without saying anything about the plan.
Li Ziyu didn't ask any more questions. He stood up and said, "Then I'll go back and make the arrangements now."
Ling Yun nodded.
Li Ziyu walked to the door, then turned back, "After we finish this batch, when are we going to do the next one?"
Ling Yun thought for a moment, "Let's wait for your notification. I'll tell you the specific plan when the time is right."
Li Ziyu nodded and went out the door.
"Are you done talking?" An Shiyu walked over, carrying her daughter.
"Um."
An Shiyu didn't ask any questions. She put her daughter on the ground, and the little one ran off to play by herself.
She walked to the window and stood next to Lingyun.
"Is Singapore better than Hong Kong?" An Shiyu smiled.
The plane took off at 2 PM.
Outside the porthole, Hong Kong grew smaller and smaller until it became a tiny dot and disappeared beneath the clouds.
The daughter was asleep, leaning against An Shiyu. Her little face was flushed, and her mouth was slightly open.
An Shiyu gently patted her and softly hummed a lullaby.
Three hours later, the plane landed at Singapore Changi Airport.
Stepping out of the cabin, a wave of heat hit me. While it was still snowing in Jinan in January, it was as hot as summer here.
Sophia was already waiting in the arrival hall. She was wearing a white suit, and her hair was shorter, making her look much more capable than before. Seeing Ling Yun come out, she walked over quickly.
"President Ling."
Ling Yun nodded.
Sophia looked at An Shiyu and smiled.
"Hello, sister-in-law."
An Shiyu nodded, "Thank you for your trouble. It's so hot, and you still have to come to pick me up from the airport."
"Serving the boss's wife is an essential skill for an excellent employee," Sophia said playfully, blinking her big eyes.
The car was waiting outside. It was a black Mercedes, driven by a local man who spoke very little. Sophia sat in the passenger seat, while Ling Yun and An Shiyu sat in the back with their daughter.
As the car entered the city, the scenery outside the window was different from that in Hong Kong—greener, cleaner, and with fewer high-rise buildings.
Sophia glanced at Ling Yun in the rearview mirror. "Mr. Ling, shall we go straight to the company?"
"Okay, let's go to the company first, then take them to the hotel."
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of an office building.
Sofia led them upstairs, and in the elevator, she whispered, "Everyone's waiting."
Ling Yun nodded.
There were six people sitting in the conference room, all from Sophia's team, responsible for Hong Kong stock operations. They all stood up when Ling Yun entered.
Ling Yun waved his hand, "Everyone, please sit down, don't be shy."
He walked to the head of the table, sat down, and Sofia sat next to him.
"Mr. Ling," Sophia said, "everyone is here."
Ling Yun looked around and said, "The positions in Hong Kong stocks can all be sold now."
The meeting room fell silent. Sophia looked at him. "All of it?"
Lingyun said, "Reduce positions in batches. Sell the constituent stocks slowly, don't rush. Close all stock index futures positions as soon as possible."
"What price range?"
"This position is fine," Ling Yun said. "Clear it all by the end of March."
Sofia took notes in her notebook.
"Where's the funding?"
"Let's keep it in the account for now; it'll probably come in handy soon."
Sophia paused for a moment, then looked up at Ling Yun.
No one spoke in the meeting room. After a few seconds, Sofia nodded.
"clear."
Ling Yun stood up. "You can continue. Discuss and come up with a clearance plan. Focus your energy on work for now. Once the work is done, you'll all have two weeks off. Of course, your bonuses will also be paid out then, so have a pleasant vacation."
He walked out of the conference room, with Sofia following behind.
"Mr. Ling," she said, "let's have dinner together tonight. I've prepared a welcome dinner for you."
"No, thank you," he said. "I'm going back to be with my wife and kids. You can go in my place and distribute the gifts I brought for everyone."
7 PM.
In the hotel room, An Shiyu was giving her daughter a bath. The sound of water and the little one's giggling could be heard from the bathroom.
Lingyun stood by the window, looking at the night view outside. Singapore's nights are beautiful, brightly lit, with skyscrapers illuminating the night with various colored lights.
His phone rang, and he glanced at it; it was Li Ziyu.
"Mr. Ling," Li Ziyu's voice came through the receiver, "I closed one-third of my positions today, and everything went smoothly."
"Well, it's currently in an upward trend, so the selling pressure will be absorbed quickly."
"Shall we continue tomorrow?"
"Continue, pay attention to the rhythm, and don't let the index drop too quickly."
hang up the phone.
An Shiyu came out of the bathroom, carrying her daughter wrapped in a bath towel. The little one was wrapped up like a little dumpling, with only her head showing, her eyes bright.
"Dad!" she reached out her hand.
Ling Yun took her and hugged her. She smelled nice, and her hair was still a little damp.
An Shiyu sat down next to her and dried her hair.
"Are you done with your work?" she asked.
"That's about it."
An Shiyu nodded. "Are you going to the company tomorrow?"
"I won't go. I'll leave the work to them. I just need to give instructions. I need to give the employees enough room to maneuver."
"I'll take you two sightseeing tomorrow. Singapore isn't very big; we can probably see everything in two days. Then we'll leave."
