Chapter 13 First Test of the Spell, Preparations Before Departure!
Chapter 13 First Test of the Spell, Preparations Before Departure!
"Don't think about it for now, Harry! I think the same way you do, but there's no point in just guessing right now."
Hagrid said Dumbledore could fight Voldemort, didn't he? No one knows a person better than their enemy. When we get to Hogwarts, we can just ask Dumbledore directly!
Dudley comforted Harry, believing that Harry's dizziness was caused by low blood sugar due to excessive insulin secretion caused by eating too many sweets, coupled with intense emotional fluctuations.
"We've gathered enough information tonight. Let's go back to our bedrooms and get some sleep! We need to be well-rested, as we're going to buy the things we need to learn magic tomorrow morning!"
Dali brought the evening's talks to a close.
“That’s right, Harry, go and rest! There’s very little that Dumbledore can’t handle! You’ll see when you get to Hogwarts!”
Like Dumbledore, Hagrid was a mindless fan of Dumbledore, believing that Dudley's words were completely correct and echoing his sentiments.
Harry went upstairs with a heavy heart.
Penny was also somewhat absent-minded. Vernon gave Dudley a few instructions and then helped his wife back to the house to rest.
Soon, only Dali and Haiger remained in the abnormally expanded living room space.
"There's no way, Hagrid. With your size, it's hard to get into our bed without using magic."
Dudley said apologetically to Hagrid.
"It's alright, I'll sleep on the floor! Tomorrow morning, I'll take you and Harry to Diagon Alley! I promise you'll be very popular!"
Hagrid's words, unusually, carried a touch of emotional intelligence.
"I'm really looking forward to it!"
Dudley smiled meaningfully.
He pushed the dining table aside to make room, then pulled out several sofa cushions and laid out a makeshift bed for Hagrid and the two dormouses.
They then used a chair to block the unlocked front door.
With Hagrid in the living room, there's absolutely no need to worry about petty thieves breaking in.
After doing all this, Dudley glanced casually at the corner of the envelope peeking out of Hagrid's shirt pocket, then said goodnight to the goofy half-giant before going upstairs.
As Dudley passed Harry's bedroom door, he knocked a few times: "Stop overthinking. Listen to your cousin, cast a 'calmness' spell on yourself, and then go to sleep!"
"Okay, cousin!"
Harry was lying on his bed in his bedroom staring at the ceiling when he suddenly heard his cousin's instruction. He snapped out of his daze, rolled over, and obediently did as he was told.
……
The next day, the Deformed Seamless Stretching Curse in the first-floor living room became ineffective, consistent with the information identified by Dali using the system.
Hagrid, lying on the living room floor, opened his eyes to see Dudley directing Harry to use his umbrella wand to cast a spell on a 'small' coat.
"Harry, repeat after me, grow bigger! At the same time, wave your wand like this!"
Dudley demonstrated for Harry using Smetine's cane. In order to better develop Harry's imagination and mental strength, he did not let Harry come into contact with the precise but rigid spellbook "Standard Spells" too early.
Therefore, Harry doesn't know any of the usual wizarding spells.
"Grow bigger quickly!"
Harry chanted the spell and, with a specific gesture, waved Hagrid's umbrella wand, casting the Enlargement Charm on an old coat that Uncle Vernon no longer wore.
A dazzling yellow light flashed from the tip of the umbrella wand and struck Vernon's old coat.
The coat swelled up quickly, soon becoming large enough to fit Hagrid's size, but the power of the spell did not dissipate; instead, it caused the coat to undergo another magical transformation.
What was once a normal brown coat has been transformed into a dopamine-colored coat with irregular red and yellow patterns.
"Cousin, this wand seems to be resisting me!"
Harry remarked on his first time casting a regular spell.
"It seems Hagrid's wand isn't quite a good match for you, but we've achieved the effect we wanted, haven't we?"
Dudley smiled and turned to look at the half-giant who had already woken up. "Good morning, Hagrid! Do you like the gift that Harry and I prepared for you?"
Hagrid looked at the incredibly brightly colored coat and excitedly stood up: "I love it! Wow! You guys are amazing!"
Hagrid's large head bumped into the living room ceiling, but he still didn't forget to praise Harry and Dudley.
"Your spell has failed, Hagrid. You'd better bend over!" Dudley advised.
"Alright, children, I think we should get going. Dumbledore also asked me to take care of something very important along the way!"
Hagrid laboriously bent down, took the umbrella and wand from Harry and the colorful striped coat from Dudley, and with a swift motion on the low table where his belongings were kept, he wrapped everything inside the coat.
The two dormice, awakened by the noise, also crawled inside.
Then, Hagrid, carrying his things and still in an uncomfortable, hunched position, struggled to the door and squeezed his way out.
The Dursleys' front door was completely deformed, almost twice its original size, and could no longer be closed.
"Oh my god! What do I see? What a huge robber!"
"Run!"
On Privet Road, there were two early-rising neighbors because Hagrid had been frightened.
"Oh no! Well! There's nothing I can do about it!" Hagrid pulled out his umbrella wand. "Forget everything! Muggle banishment!"
The panicked neighbor had his unpleasant memories erased and returned to peace.
In the Dursleys’ living room, Dudley suddenly couldn’t see Hagrid at the door and had a vague feeling of wanting to get away from the doorway.
However, as Dudley solidified his resolve not to stray far, he was able to see Hagrid again.
The system protected his independent thoughts from being tampered with, and using this hidden ability, Dudley successfully freed himself from the effects of Hagrid's Muggle Expulsion Curse.
The Muggle Exorcism Charm can make Muggles ignore the presence of wizards, have the idea of staying away from the person casting the spell or the place where the spell is cast, and can even cause Muggle technological items within the spell's range to malfunction.
This is a simple yet terrifying curse that would be extremely detrimental to the Muggle community should war break out between them.
However, it is not entirely unbreakable. If a Muggle is captured and made to have physical contact with the wizard, sharing the wizard's mysticism, the Muggle can be temporarily freed from the spell's influence.
Dudley's mind was filled with some dark thoughts, and he naturally reached out to pull Harry back, lest the careless Hagrid notice something amiss.
Then he picked up the dozen or so bagged sandwiches that Penny had specially prepared early in the morning from the table, and put the thousand pounds that Vernon had deliberately left behind, which was of little use, into his pocket.
In the inner pocket of his coat, there were three bundles of refrigerated blood wrapped in tin foil and cotton to insulate against the temperature, and a rough ruby wrapped in kraft paper and twine.
“Let’s go, Harry! We’re off to the wizarding world!” Dudley said nonchalantly.
"Okay, cousin!"
Harry replied, somewhat puzzled. But as he stepped out of the crumbling front door, he couldn't help but ask, "Cousin, aren't you going to say goodbye to your aunt and uncle?"
"Please! My cousin, we're going shopping, not to the battlefield! We don't need to put on this tearful, sentimental show, do we?"
Dudley made a lighthearted joke to put Harry at ease.
But deep down, Dali wasn't as happy as he appeared.
He knew his parents were hiding behind the door of the master bedroom on the first floor, listening to their departure, and he was filled with worry.
However, this is something the Dursleys must go through and adapt to.
As relatives of the savior, they either kept a low profile and hid in obscurity until Voldemort and his henchmen were completely wiped out, or lived in constant fear until they obtained immense power.
There is no third way.
