Chapter 23: The Reversal of Polarity
Chapter 23: The Reversal of Polarity
Just as Spider-Man expected.
After he finished shouting, Connors picked up the prepared antidote serum and stepped forward to the two of them.
Connors gripped the syringe in his hand, thrusting it forcefully through several spider webs, piercing straight into Dara's scaly skin.
This action caused Dara to let out a fierce and shocking scream.
"Squeak!!!!!!!!!"
It was like a scene from a monster movie. The window, which Spider-Man and Connors had broken, was further shattered and destroyed by Dara's roar, with several shards of glass falling directly from the sky.
Then, Spider-Man noticed that Dara suddenly lowered his head, as if he had lost consciousness and was no longer able to resist.
"Dr. Connors!"
Seeing that Dr. Connors looked a little off, Spider-Man quickly jumped off Dara and helped the unsteady Connors up.
"How are you?"
"This is normal."
Connors lowered his head and breathed heavily, his gaze not falling on Spider-Man or Dara.
He focused on his newly grown arm from beginning to end.
Boo!
Spider-Man looked at Connors's hideous green arm, the skin on its surface cracking and peeling off like a snake shedding its skin, turning into a pile of fragments that fell to the ground.
The lizard being supported shrank in size, gradually becoming the shape of a normal human.
After a while, Connors, who had returned to normal human size, was held naked in Spider-Man's arms.
Seeing this, Spider-Man flicked his wrist and used his webs to pull over a work suit hanging on a chair in the lab, then draped it over Connors.
"Clothes, Doctor."
Spider-Man noticed that Connors' gaze was still fixed on the missing arm.
He understood what Connors was thinking and comforted him, saying, "A temporary setback will lead to a new success."
"......"
Hearing the boy, who was much younger than himself, comfort him, Connors couldn't help but smile. "Kid, I'm not as bad as you think."
Spider-Man scratched his head. "Sorry, I'm more worried... But why did you also de-form from your lizard form, Doctor?"
The antidote serum should only affect Dara.
Connors explained, "This time I'm using a gaseous-liquefied serum antidote. Compared to liquid, it's more easily absorbed by the skin's surface. However, the release process is inevitably affected, since I also injected myself with lizard serum."
"I see, that explains the strange smell." Spider-Man nodded.
"but......"
Connors looked at Dara, who had turned into a mummy, and frowned. "Why is his regression so slow?"
Spider-Man thought for a moment and said, "Maybe it injected too much of the drug?"
Connors shook his head, rejecting Peter's statement.
"That's not how it works," Connors said. "It has nothing to do with how much serum it's injected, because once the antidote starts spreading, it will be affected. It's like a piece of wood touching a flame; you can't say that if the wood is big enough, it won't catch fire."
"......"
Spider-Man thought Connors was right, but Dara's enormous body seemed unchanged, still just as big.
He decided to ask Oz.
What do you think?
"Add Yuanfang."
"What?"
"I said add Yuanfang before that sentence."
"......?"
Spider-Man didn't understand Oz's actions, but he still obeyed and did as he was told.
"Yuanfang... what do you think?" The words were a bit awkward to say, but he still managed to get them out.
Oz stroked his beak with his wing and made a soft, murmuring sound.
Just as Spider-Man thought Oz was about to say something, he heard it say something else.
"I have no idea."
"!!!"
Spider-Man was so angry he wanted to pluck all the hair off Oz's body.
"However, my suggestion is to take Connors in his normal human form first. You know, it's usually the ordinary people who suffer at disaster sites."
"It's like a group of people in a horror movie who have just escaped danger. One of them exclaims, 'Wow, I finally escaped!' But the next second, snap, his neck has been snapped by the killer."
Oz's words immediately triggered Spider-Man's memories of horror movies he had seen before.
He shook himself and turned to look at Connors.
"Doctor, let me take you away from here first."
"No, I have to stay here and continue to observe."
Peter felt increasingly déjà vu as he listened to these words; he was more and more convinced that this was a conversation that would happen in a horror movie.
So, disregarding Connors's objections, he chose to forcibly abduct the doctor.
Connors protested, shouting, "What are you doing! Have you forgotten the essence of science? We need to record the experimental results at all times!"
Spider-Man, carrying Connors, replied, "Another essential aspect of science is that in any experimental situation, the safety of life must be the primary concern."
Connors, exasperated, honestly said, "Then put me down. Can't we take the elevator?"
"No, elevators are also prone to accidents."
"You've been watching too many movies, Peter!"
Spider-Man suddenly stopped and looked back at Dara, who was wrapped in spider webs like a mummy.
Connors asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"
"Something's not right," Spider-Man said.
"If something's wrong, just run, you idiot! You made the same mistake you made in a horror movie!" Oz shouted, standing on his shoulder.
Buzz! ! !
The spider's senses exploded!
The spider silk wrapped around Dara's body snapped in an instant, and a green afterimage as fast as lightning lashed towards Spider-Man and Connors!
Spider-Man could clearly see that the afterimage was Dara's lizard tail!
But he wasn't aiming at himself...
It's Dr. Connors!
Spider-Man quickly threw Connors out the window, then took the brunt of the lizard's tail whippings alone!
The crackling sounds and shouts rang out simultaneously.
"Whoa ...
Connors flew out of the laboratory like a headless fly and fell from a great height.
Upon hearing the sound, Spider-Man, ignoring the burning pain on his face, shot out webs from his hands, pulled himself out of the window, and flew out in the blink of an eye.
As soon as he stepped outside the building, he saw Connors falling from the sky.
"Doctor, hold on tight to the spider silk!"
Spider-Man flicked his wrist, and a web shot out from the launcher, like a hand, swiftly lunging towards Connors!
When Connors saw the spider silk, he wanted to yell at Peter, "How can you save people like this?!"
But the thought of surviving overcame the urge to curse, and he quickly grabbed the spider silk with his hand.
In mid-air, Spider-Man pressed his finger on the web, activating the retraction function and reducing the distance between himself and Connors to the minimum.
He quickly embraced Connors again.
"Hold me tight, Doctor!"
Spider-Man surveyed his surroundings. There were some webs nearby that he could use for leverage, but if he shot out a web to steady himself, the force would cause him and Connors to crash into the building wall together.
If Connors still looked like a lizardman, that would be fine, with his thick skin and tough flesh.
But right now, Connors is in his normal human form!
Doing this will only turn Connors into a pulp!
Spider-Man gripped Connors's only remaining arm with one hand, preventing him from letting go due to the high-altitude descent.
He then continuously shot out spider silk that stuck to the surface of the building, not to get closer, but simply to release some impact.
Finally, with a loud bang.
Spider-Man carried Connors and landed smoothly on the ground.
Unfortunately, his cool demeanor lasted only a few seconds before he couldn't help but jump up and down, as if there were hot nails on the ground.
"It hurts so much!"
The police, who had been stationed below, naturally noticed the scene.
They didn't have time to think about why someone was being carried by Spider-Man.
Because in the next second, that enormous lizard monster reappeared!
boom!
Dara jumped straight down from the sky like a cannonball.
"Have you all forgotten one fact? I'm a fucking scientist too!"
After saying that, it used all four legs to chase after Spider-Man and Connors.
Connors was startled and quickly shouted in Peter's ear:
"What are you standing there for? Run! It's coming after us! Run faster, run faster!!!"
Spider-Man felt like he'd seen this scene somewhere before.
But there was no time to worry about that now; his feet spun rapidly like spirals.
Spider-Man ran in a very clear direction: the location of the police.
As they were about to arrive, Connors grabbed the missing arm and swung it back and forth.
"Fire! Fire now!"
"..."
"Who were you shooting at?"
George slapped the officer on the head. "Who did you say? It's that monster, of course!"
He recognized Dr. Connors; the latter had once written a college recommendation letter for his precious daughter. How could he possibly forget him!
"Everyone, fire on the lizard monster behind Spider-Man!"
The order was given, and all the officers raised their guns and aimed at the massive body behind Spider-Man.
Bang bang bang!
The sound of gunfire told everyone present one thing.
That means the riots that started tonight are not over yet.
