As is well known, Wood Release is composed of the nature transformations of both water and earth chakra.
An Yan possesses three chakra natures: water, earth, and wind. Theoretically, he could try to train in Wood Release.
An Yan didn't demand that his Wood Release be as powerful as Hashirama Senju's. He had low expectations for himself; having Yamato's level was enough. Hashirama Senju was powerful because he had a massive amount of chakra, plus Ashura's chakra. Even without developing Wood Release, he would still be powerful using other jutsu.
An Yan had only eaten half of his breakfast when Bei Liu Hu rushed over excitedly, grabbed An Yan, and prepared to leave.
"Wait, Hiruko, what's going on with you?"
An Yan grabbed Bei Liu Hu and pressed him down, his head full of question marks.
His eyes and brows were full of excitement.
“An Yan, have you forgotten? Yesterday, Danzo-sensei said that starting today, we will officially begin our missions. I was thinking that we should go to the Konoha Ninja Hall as soon as possible and pick a good mission.”
An Yan continued eating his breakfast at a leisurely pace, saying casually, "What's the rush? You won't get a mission even if you go. In the ninja mission hall, apart from the missions directly assigned to you by the village, only the team leader is qualified to receive missions."
When Hiruko heard An Yan's words, his excitement subsided a little. Knowing that going early wouldn't make a difference, he wasn't in such a hurry anymore. Instead, he plopped down in a chair and quietly waited for An Yan to finish his breakfast.
After finishing his meal, he changed into casual clothes, checked his ninja tool bag, and then went out.
Instead of going directly to the mission hall, the two took a detour and decided to find Hatake Sakumo first. They had already found out his address during dinner yesterday, so they went straight into Hatake Sakumo's house.
Sakumo Hatake's parents are both deceased, and like An'yan, he lives alone, making it very convenient for him to come and go.
It's only six in the morning, and Hatake Sakumo hasn't gotten up yet. Most people aren't as lazy as An'yan and Hiruko; they're usually asleep by six.
So An Yan began training in the water-attribute nature transformation of chakra. He sat on the chair by the bed, holding a towel in his hand, and tried to wet the towel with chakra.
Hiruko opened his notebook and began reviewing the knowledge he had learned before.
When Sakumo Hatake opened his eyes, everyone was shocked.
Why are there two more people in the room when I woke up? They look like they're working really hard, and they're even considerate enough not to wake me up.
What's with this feeling of guilt that comes from only being lazy?
Upon seeing that Sakumo Hatake had woken up, Hiruko quickly greeted him.
"Brother Hatake, we're heading to the Konoha Mission Hall. Would you like to come with us?"
"However, I need to wash up and eat before I go over. Also, don't sneak into my house next time."
"Definitely next time."
Sakumo Hatake got up with a yawn and quickly completed the entire process from washing up to eating and changing clothes.
The group went outside and arrived at the entrance of the mission hall.
Yesterday, Danzo didn't say what time they would meet, so they just waited here in the mission hall.
While An Yan was still studying the changes in properties, Bei Liu Hu had already taken out medical books and started studying them.
Sakumo Hatake looked around and felt that if he didn't work hard, he would become somewhat out of place.
So he set up a wooden stick not far from the door and began practicing the basics of knife skills.
People were coming and going at the entrance of the mission hall, and soon someone notified Shimura Danzo that his three students were waiting for him.
Danzo soon appeared with a gloomy face.
"It seems you're eager to complete your first official mission as soon as possible. Well then, today I'll take you to see some blood."
Danzo took out a mission scroll. It was a C-level mission: to wipe out mountain bandits.
An Yan raised an eyebrow. "Going straight to bloodshed? Shouldn't you at least scratch the cat first? Tsk, is this the strength of the Dark Ninja?"
Konoha is still that terrifying organization. Even in this peaceful era, they still start by making children bleed. Six-year-olds killing people, it's no wonder they're so mentally disturbed. No wonder the ninja world is full of paranoiacs and mentally ill people.
Danzo led An Yan and the other two directly to the mission. The ninjas were very fast and traveled at lightning speed, arriving at the mission location in less than half a day.
"This is the place. Kill them all."
Danzo pointed to the mountain stronghold in front of him and waved his hand.
An Yan and the other two transformed into three black shadows and disappeared.
This is an ordinary mountain stronghold, inhabited by about thirty or forty bandits.
Sakumo Hatake drew his sword and charged forward, An'an drew his bow and arrows, and Hiruko stood guard in front of An'an.
Sakumo Hatake killed several people in front, while Yasui kept shooting arrows from behind to cover him. Hiruko dealt with the occasional survivors who slipped through the net.
None of the three were merciful, and Danzo nodded repeatedly in approval.
Chapter 25 Daily Cultivation
The First Shinobi World War had just ended, and bandits were rampant throughout the Land of Fire, urgently requiring a large number of shinobi to deal with the situation.
An Yan and his classmates graduated at this time, which was just in time.
Within a month, An Yan and his two companions, led by Danzo, completed seventeen bandit-suppression missions in the Land of Fire. Each of them killed countless people, and almost all of them were 100-man killers.
An Yan is doing well; after all, he is a transmigrator and has a mature worldview. Hatake Sakumo is also doing well; his personality hasn't had any problems. People in the ninja world mature early, and his worldview was pretty much set by the age of twelve.
However, Hiruko is having a slight problem. He can't sleep at night and seems to be having nightmares. These past two days, the kid has started to think about the meaning of life.
An Yan almost blurted out, "You're fighting seven people at once? You've already got the mindset of a Naruto."
There's no way around it; kids need to be comforted, otherwise it wouldn't be good if a good friend suddenly turned into a psychopath.
An Yan took some time to find Hiruko, and the two had a long talk by the river outside Konoha Village.
"Are you in a lot of pain, Hiruko?"
An Yan looked at Bei Liu Hu, who had become much quieter. He hadn't been sleeping well these past few days and had dark circles under his eyes.
"The essence of a ninja is a killing machine. Killing a few people is normal. If you can't even get past this hurdle, you'd better retire as soon as possible."
Hiruko remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.
“I know they have their reasons for dying, but the mass killing of their own kind inevitably causes some pain to others.”
"The world is cruel; wherever there are people, there is conflict, and where there is conflict, there is death, unless you can change it."
An Yan is not good at lecturing; he only confronts people with cold reality and then offers a feasible solution.
"If you had the power to suppress the entire ninja world, unify the whole world, and then establish strict laws, there would probably be far less killing in the world."
"Unify the ninja world?"
Beiruk muttered to himself, seemingly deep in thought.
Seeing that the boy finally seemed less conflicted, An Yan turned and left, leaving the rest to him to figure out.
There is an aura in the ninja world. For example, the killing intent of Zabuza the Demon and Orochimaru once intimidated the ninjas of Team 7.
After a series of bandit suppression missions, An Yan also exuded a murderous aura.
This is a kind of mental power that can be freely controlled. An Yan happens to have a high mental attribute, so his killing intent is particularly oppressive.
After sensing this power, An Yan had been training intentionally. At first, he could only make the bandits shiver, but in the end, he could make the bandits unable to move with just a glance.
An Yan felt that this killing intent was worth developing. If his mental attributes were high enough, it might evolve into something like Dragon's Might or Conqueror's Haki, which could be used to clear out mobs in future battles.
With the Yang Seal on his body, An Yan is constantly accumulating Yin Release chakra and nourishing his spirit. Every now and then, his spiritual attribute will increase a little. Combined with the killing intent lock, killing some ordinary genin should not be a problem.
Danzo noticed An'an's subtle actions of deliberately honing his killing intent and, after inquiring about An'an's chakra attributes, drew his conclusion.
"Your chakra nature should be Yin. Chakra test strips cannot show both Yin and Yang chakra natures."
An Yan expressed a pleasant surprise at this.
Danzo continued, "Possessing Yin Release chakra means being qualified to practice genjutsu, mental ninjutsu, and sensory ninjutsu."
Danzo taught Yasuie the chakra-sensing ninjutsu passed down from Tobirama Senju.
This is a technique that uses finger taps to sense chakra; both Tobirama Senju and Minato Namikaze used it.
In Tobirama Senju's hands, this sensory ninjutsu allowed him to sense enemies thousands of miles away, covering an extremely vast area.
However, in An Yan's hands, the detection range was greatly reduced to only a dozen kilometers. To put it another way, it was only slightly better than the White Eye.
The ninja world is quite strict about the inheritance of ninjutsu. A Chunin might only know a few ninjutsu in his entire life. Danzo taught Yasuie such a simple ninjutsu, partly out of respect for Mito Uzumaki, and partly to do a favor.
An Yan is a very capable person. At such a young age, he has mastered medical ninjutsu, sealing techniques, and even other basic ninja skills. He is a rare talent, and such a person should definitely be recruited.
Danzo is not yet crippled, nor has he established the Root organization. He is confident in his own strength and his mind is not on political maneuvering.
Danzo's true change of heart came during the Second Shinobi World War, when he witnessed the power of the Third Raikage and his Jinchuriki, a power far beyond the reach of ordinary ninjas.
Danzo, having been crippled, realized his own insignificance and turned his attention to human experimentation, attempting to master powerful secret techniques like the Sharingan or Wood Release to control the Nine-Tails and achieve his ambitions.
The young Danzo was, after all, a disciple recognized by Tobirama Senju, and his heart wasn't all that bad. When he saw An Yan easily use the Chakra Sensing Technique, he immediately understood An Yan's talent.
Danzo sighed inwardly, thinking that his old classmate had done something good. Then he felt a surge of anger, believing that Sarutobi was deliberately taking care of him, which made him both ashamed and annoyed.
An Yan was completely unaware of Danzo's inner thoughts. Seeing how easily Danzo taught him ninjutsu, he became arrogant and wanted to learn more ninjutsu.
Danzo seemed to be quite open-minded about teaching his disciples ninjutsu, and was not as conservative as one might imagine, perhaps because of Tobirama Senju's personal instruction.
He taught An Yan one C-rank ninjutsu for each of the three elements: wind, water, and earth, so that An Yan could practice them first and familiarize himself with the nature transformation of chakra.
Could this possibly stump An Yan? I've been practicing chakra nature transformation for a month, and if I still can't learn these three ninjutsu, wouldn't all my training have been for nothing?
Danzo had just used it when An'an followed suit, and then asked innocently, "Am I doing the right thing? Is this how it is?"
Danzo was a little confused. If An'an could learn this fast, he wouldn't have enough ninjutsu to teach him.
An Yan left Danzo with another illusion—the "Not Here" technique—and Danzo used the excuse of having something to do to instantly disappear.
Tsk, little Danzo, easy peasy.
An Yan thought to himself that Danzo was indeed much inferior to Mito-sama. Mito-sama greeted him with a bunch of sealing techniques, and seeing that An Yan was indeed a promising talent, she directly passed on all the techniques that should be passed on.
Danzo himself displayed genius, yet he only taught a few C-rank ninjutsu. The highest-ranked ninjutsu he taught was probably Chakra Sensing Technique, which is linked to mental strength and should be at least A-rank.
However, Danzo was still a bit stronger than Kakashi, and he didn't try to fool him with things like climbing trees or walking on water.
If we ever fall out in the future, I'll have to be swift and decisive so he can leave peacefully.
