Chapter 500: Kaido, Bolo Breath Burns the Sky
Akainu slowly retracted his right arm.
The blinding white magma reverted to its dark red hue. He deactivated his Devil Fruit’s awakened state. The surrounding, boiling Magma Hell began to cool gradually. A layer of black volcanic rock solidified over the surface of the dark red magma.
The pungent stench of sulfur and the nauseating smell of charred flesh still lingered heavily in the air.
Akainu straightened his slightly damaged red suit. He turned around, looking at the Namekian elder cowering in the corner of the ruins.
The elder had been completely paralyzed by the god-like, apocalyptic battle that had just transpired. He sat slumped on the ground, clutching the massive orange Dragon Ball tightly to his chest, trembling like a leaf in the wind.
Akainu walked over with steady, heavy steps. His military boots crunched against the cooling volcanic rock, producing crisp, shattering sounds. To the elder’s ears, those sounds were like the approaching footsteps of the Grim Reaper.
Stopping right in front of the elder, Akainu wasted no time on idle chatter. He simply extended a single hand.
"Give it to me."
His tone brooked absolutely no refusal.
The elder looked up at the man who had just slaughtered all of his enemies with such extreme and cruel methods. He didn’t know what consequences would follow handing this wish-granting Dragon Ball over to him, but he knew he had absolutely no room to refuse.
With trembling hands, the elder loosened his grip and offered the smooth, warm orange orb.
Akainu took the Dragon Ball. It weighed a bit more than he had anticipated. Its surface was perfectly smooth, and the few red stars embedded inside glinted with an otherworldly light beneath the sickly green sky.
That’s one, Akainu muttered internally. As long as I find the remaining six, I can complete the task assigned by the Shop Manager.
Tucking the Dragon Ball under his arm, he didn’t spare another glance at the slumped elder as he turned and prepared to leave the ruins.
To him, the lives or deaths of these alien natives were irrelevant. He only cared about executing justice and completing his mission.
.....
Namek’s sky always possessed a sickly, oppressive green hue.
Suddenly, a streak of light wrapped in black and red lightning violently tore through the clouds. Carrying an unimaginably berserk aura, the streak plummeted straight toward the massive, bowl-shaped spaceship resting on the ground.
Boom!
A deafening explosion erupted completely across Namek’s barren landscape. A massive shockwave spread out frantically like a physical tsunami.
Over a dozen alien soldiers patrolling the ship’s perimeter didn’t even have time to react. They were instantly thrown high into the air by the raging gale. Flailing wildly, they let out blood-curdling screams. Before they could even hit the ground, their bodies succumbed to the terrifying concussive force, detonating one after another into mists of purple blood in mid-air.
A bottomless crater was blasted into the earth. The surrounding rocks and soil took on a bizarre, glassy sheen under the extreme heat.
Alarms shrieked frantically inside the spaceship. Heavy alloy blast doors slid open rapidly amidst a chorus of mechanical whirs. A large swarm of alien soldiers wearing white combat suits poured out like angry hornets. They aimed an assortment of energy rifles, the scouters over their eyes flashing furiously with red light.
"Enemy attack!"
"Someone’s attacking Lord Frieza’s ship!"
The leading captain roared, trying to organize a defensive formation.
The dust and smoke at the bottom of the massive crater slowly cleared. An exceptionally towering and burly figure stepped up from the depths, one heavy stride at a time.
Kaido’s upper body was bare, his knotty, bulging muscles covered in hideous scars. The two massive dragon horns atop his head gleamed with a cold light beneath the green sky. In his hand, he carried his signature spiked club, Hassaikai. He was still wearing that ridiculous security guard uniform printed with the number ’007’.
Yet, worn on his frame, the comical outfit somehow exuded a scalp-numbing, oppressive pressure.
"Is this all of them?"
Kaido’s eyes, brimming with a tyrannical aura, swept across the dense crowd of soldiers ahead. He didn’t even bother lifting his club.
His chest expanded violently outward, and a terrifyingly high heat rapidly converged deep within his throat. He opened his abyss-like, massive jaws.
"Bolo Breath!"
An incredibly thick, bright orange pillar of fire erupted from his mouth. Carrying the ultimate temperature to incinerate all things, the fire blast swept directly through the crowd of gun-toting aliens.
There were no screams. There were no explosions.
There was only the blood-curdling sound of utter dissolution.
Wherever the pillar of fire passed, everything was instantly vaporized by the absolute heat—be it the soldiers in their high-grade combat suits, the energy weapons in their hands, or even the landing pad forged from special alloys at the front of the ship.
Not even a speck of ash remained.
Only a charred, bottomless trench dozens of meters wide was left scarred into the earth. Boiling magma still dripped from the rocks along the edge of the trench.
Meanwhile, hidden deep within the highly concealed ventilation shafts of the spaceship, a short but extremely muscular and lean man was crawling forward like a rat. He had spiky black hair standing straight up and wore a heavily damaged blue skin-tight combat suit.
It was none other than the Prince of all Saiyans who had just defected from the Frieza Force: Vegeta.
Vegeta tightly hugged three massive orange orbs to his chest. These were the Dragon Balls he had stolen after sneaking into the ship, taking advantage of the window when Frieza left to find the Grand Elder. As long as he gathered all seven, he would attain eternal life. When that time came, even that monster Frieza would be crushed beneath his feet.
Right as he was dreaming of immortality, the spaceship violently shuddered.
The tremor was so berserk that it caused the entire ventilation shaft to groan with the sound of overstressed, twisting metal. Vegeta lost his grip for a split second, and the three Dragon Balls nearly rolled out of his arms.
He frantically scrambled to hug them tight again, a layer of cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. If these fell and shattered, his plan to conquer the universe would go up in smoke.
Damn it! What kind of idiot dares to attack Frieza’s ship at a time like this? Vegeta cursed internally.
Frieza might be gone, but there were still plenty of elite soldiers stationed aboard. Just who had the guts to march right up to the front door?
Outside the ship, Kaido had already swaggered through the massive hole he had burned into the hull. The interior of the ship was enormous, filled with blinking consoles and a maze of metallic corridors.
Kaido had zero interest in any of this high-tech junk. He closed his eyes.
His domineering Observation Haki washed out like an invisible radar pulse, instantly covering every corner of the vessel. He could clearly sense a number of faint life signatures hiding inside the ship. But in his eyes, those auras weren’t even worth comparing to bugs.
He was looking for the guy named Frieza, and the five Dragon Balls he could use to claim credit from the Shop Manager.
"Where is that garbage who calls himself the Emperor of the Universe!?"
Kaido’s gruff, roaring voice echoed violently through the metal corridors, shattering the glass indicator lights lining the walls. He slammed Hassaikai heavily against the metal floor. The sheer brute force dented the thick alloy plating into a deep crater.
"Every last one of those five Dragon Balls is mine!"
"Tell that guy named Frieza to get his ass out here and die!"
Kaido’s voice oozed with the absolute arrogance of someone who believed he reigned supreme. He didn’t care in the slightest who owned this ship. As far as he was concerned, every living creature on this planet was just a stepping stone for him to prove his worth to the Shop Manager.
Hiding in the ventilation shaft, Vegeta heard the thunderous roar. Following the sound, he peered down through the gaps of a metal louver at the bottom of the duct.
He happened to see a giant, half-naked man over seven meters tall standing in the middle of the corridor. This giant was incredibly bizarre—sporting horns on his head, covered in scars, and lugging around a primitive wooden club.
Vegeta furrowed his brow. He raised a hand and tapped the red scouter over his left eye.
The scouter let out a series of soft beeps, the numbers on the screen jumping rapidly before stopping at a value he found utterly laughable.
Eight thousand.
Vegeta stared at the number, a supremely cruel and contemptuous sneer pulling at the corner of his mouth.
"And here I thought it was some incredible monster," he muttered. "Turns out it’s just a worthless native with a power level of 8,000."
He was the proud Prince of all Saiyans. After the desperate battles on Earth and the continuous skirmishes on Namek, his power level had currently broken through the 24,000 mark. He had even wiped out high-ranking executives like Dodoria and Zarbon.
A giant with a mere 8,000 power level was less than a fart in his eyes.
However, Vegeta’s calculating mind immediately began to spin. This idiot who popped out of nowhere might be weak, but he was making a massive racket. He would definitely draw the attention of every single guard on the ship.
To him, this was the absolute perfect decoy.
As long as this giant could stall the guards for a few minutes, he could safely escape the ship with these three Dragon Balls, then go search for the remaining two.
The more Vegeta thought about it, the more perfect the plan seemed. He almost wanted to applaud the horned idiot down below.
"Just stay right there and be a good living target," he whispered. "The Prince doesn’t have time to play with you."
