Chapter 1 Doctor Miller
Chapter 1 Doctor Miller
New York, a quiet morning. Miller, sitting in his office, stretched and looked at the sunlight streaming through the window, sighing, "Another peaceful and serene day! I hope it lasts forever!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the office door was pushed open by a nurse: "Dr. Miller, a patient has arrived at the operating room. Please proceed to the operating room as soon as possible."
Miller looked up at the nurse who had arms thicker than his thighs as she entered, and said with a smile, "Okay, I'll be right there."
She then got up, put on a white coat, and was led by a nurse to the operating room.
Watching the nurse's muscular back, Miller rubbed his temples with his index finger, silently complaining to himself, "Where have all those pretty nurses in the movies gone? Why are all the nurses at my hospital like this? It's really affecting my work mood!"
Upon reaching the operating room door, a middle-aged couple, their faces radiating panic and worry, stood up as Miller, dressed in a white coat, approached. They seemed about to say something to him, but were stopped by Dr. Doug, the hospital director who was comforting them.
After stopping the two, Dr. Doug approached Miller and said seriously, "Dr. Miller, the patient inside is now in your care."
Miller sized up the couple, who clearly weren't ordinary people, and asked Dr. Doug, "What's the patient's condition?"
"He got high, sped, crashed through the guardrail, and then came in," Dr. Doug explained.
"What's the situation with the parents?" Miller asked as he walked, arriving at a place a little distance away from the couple with Dr. Doug.
"Banker, rich!" Dr. Doug said succinctly.
"The consultation fee?" Miller's eyes lit up as if he had spotted a huge, fat sheep.
"The hospital will get ten million dollars if you cure their son, and you'll get eight million after taxes. After all, besides you, probably no one else can cure that guy inside," Dr. Doug said.
"Alright, remember to transfer the money soon," Miller earnestly instructed.
"I really don't know what God was thinking, to give someone as greedy as you such outstanding talent," Dr. Doug complained to Miller, who lacked medical ethics.
Miller was satisfied with how many dollars he could earn from this deal, and naturally didn't care about Dr. Doug's thoughts.
After their conversation, Miller bypassed the banker couple who were waiting by the operating room and went directly into the operating room, leaving the chief physician to continue comforting the couple.
Upon entering the operating room, Miller was confronted with the body of a patient whose entire body was covered in blood and gore. The tense expressions on the faces of those waiting in the operating room relaxed as they watched Miller enter.
After changing into a surgical gown and putting on a sterile cap with the help of a nurse, Miller walked to the operating table. Looking at the bloodied and mangled patient in front of him, he calmly began to direct the people in the operating room.
As the surgery progressed, the patient's vital signs gradually began to recover. When the surgery was completed, seven hours later, the patient on the operating table looked no different from a normal person. The people in the operating room looked at Miller with a variety of emotions in their eyes once again.
After all, in their understanding, given the patient's injuries, there was basically nothing they could do but wait to die.
Dr. Miller, who was able to heal such an injury, would naturally be admired and respected by everyone in the operating room.
After all, no one can guarantee whether tomorrow or an accident will come first.
In a place unseen by the others, a faint light emanated from a stone inside Miller's trousers.
When Miller emerged from the operating room, the banker couple who had been waiting outside approached him anxiously and asked, "Dr. Miller, how is my son? Is he out of danger?"
Looking at the two nervous family members of the patient in front of him, Miller seemed to see a pile of green US dollars.
To show respect for the US dollar, Miller, who had been working for seven hours, forced a smile. "The surgery was a success. You two can go see your child now. If everything goes well, your child should be able to be discharged from the hospital after a period of recuperation."
As soon as Miller finished speaking, the two rushed into the operating room.
Moments later, the operating room was filled with the woman's excited cries and the man's barely concealed words of comfort.
Hearing the sounds coming from the operating room, Miller smiled and left the private hospital where he worked.
Seeing that the sky was already dark, Miller walked to his sports car parked in the parking lot, rubbed his rumbling stomach, and decided to reward himself with a delicious meal.
After finishing his lavish meal, Miller went to his rented luxury apartment and started watching TV, seemingly waiting for something.
"Reporter reporting in: The long-missing and renowned billionaire, Mr. Tony Stark, has been found by the military today..."
Miller rubbed his temples with his index finger, wondering when Tony had announced the closure of Stark Industries' weapons division. Then Stark Industries' stock price plummeted, only to skyrocket after Tony announced himself as Iron Man and released information about clean energy. This was the only opportunity Miller knew of that could make a fortune in the Marvel universe.
Miller's thoughts were interrupted by the vibration from his phone.
[Ding! Your bank card ending in 0004 has received $8000000. Your account balance is $13000657.]
Miller, who had finally received the text message, immediately got up, turned off the TV, and silently chanted in his mind, "System, recharge! 1100 million US dollars."
[Ding! 1100 million USD has been deducted from your bank card ending in 0004. Please confirm if this was your transaction.]
You have confirmed that your current balance is $2000657.
After checking the text message on his phone and confirming that the recharge was successful, Miller shifted his focus to his mind.
Miller's feelings were complicated as he looked at the blue system screen in his mind.
Today marks the fifth month since Miller came into this world.
In his previous life, Miller was a proctologist. He didn't want to recall his specific work experience, but because he didn't want to continue that job, he signed up for a medical relief mission to Africa organized by the hospital. During one of the rescue missions, he was hit by a stray bullet from the rebels and came into this world.
Upon waking up in this body, Miller learns his name is Miller Cooper from the name on his driver's license. The moment he turns on the TV, he sees a news report about Robert Downey Jr. holding two twin models. Miller immediately knows he has entered the Marvel universe, and most likely the cinematic universe, since Robert Downey Jr.'s face is so recognizable.
Fortunately, after Miller found the last dollar he had, he activated the system in his mind and successfully recharged the dollar, receiving a beginner's reward: a horse charm.
The horse charm comes from an animated series called "Jackie Chan Adventures" that Miller watched when he was a child. It's worth mentioning that Miller initially thought "Jackie Chan Adventures" was a Chinese production, but later learned from popular science articles that it was actually produced by an American company.
The Horse Talisman's function is to remove external forces from its target, restoring it to its perfect state. In simpler terms, when used on a person, the Horse Talisman can eliminate all injuries and illnesses; when used on an object, it can restore a damaged object to its original, pristine state.
But since it was a beginner's reward, the Horse Talisman's abilities were initially quite weak, at most only able to cure a cold or runny nose. However, Miller later discovered that he could upgrade the Horse Talisman's abilities by spending US dollars, and thus became a proud barefoot doctor.
With the help of the Horse Talisman, Miller became one of the most famous surgeons in New York in just five months. His residence changed from a basement to a luxury apartment, and his workplace changed from his own basement to the most famous private hospital in the United States.
As his fame grew, so did his earnings, and his abilities naturally improved at an accelerated pace. It's fair to say that if Miller didn't know the upcoming plot of the Marvel universe, he would actually quite enjoy his current life.
After all, a job with a good position and good income like this is something I've always dreamed of in my past life.
