Chapter 412 Milina
"I am Zatanna, and I want to give myself some time to be as inquisitive as before, to learn ventriloquism, and to solve the only weakness of irony magic."
On a moonlit night with few stars, Zatanna drove a car towards the outskirts of Gotham.
"There are no magic shows, no heroic acts, just myself and this peaceful and beautiful broad road."
Zatanna was in a very relaxed mood. She and Connors had traveled to other universes to broaden their horizons and had a wonderful three-person trip after their return. Now it was time for her to embark on her journey.
There are very few people in the world who can speak ventriloquism anymore. Fortunately, Zatanna vaguely remembered seeing a street performer who could speak ventriloquism when she was performing magic in Nevada.
She was an old woman dressed as a witch, but she couldn't do anything except ventriloquism. She relied on performing tricks on the street to attract attention and get a few coins from passersby.
"Who is that?"
After driving continuously for three hours, Zatanna saw a man standing by the roadside giving a thumbs-up, wanting a ride.
Out of kindness, Zatanna slowly applied the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a steady stop beside the person.
It was a middle-aged woman with a haggard face, carrying a bundle on her back.
"You seem to need help?" Zatanna asked, rolling down the car window.
"Yes, kind person, I want to go to Nevada to send some money to my children," the middle-aged woman said.
The surroundings were deserted, and the middle-aged woman looked somewhat frightening under the moonlight. Zatanna frowned and asked:
"Why not just transfer the money directly? We live in the information age."
The middle-aged woman said apologetically:
"I'm sorry—but my husband, the father of my children, abandoned us and ran away after accumulating a mountain of debt, and all of our family's bank accounts have been locked."
"I thought I could walk to Nevada on my own two feet, but my legs wouldn't cooperate. They were sore and painful, and I couldn't walk anymore."
Zatanna sighed softly and extended an invitation to the middle-aged woman:
"Get in, I'm going to Nevada too, I can give you a ride. My name is Zatanna, what's your name?"
The middle-aged woman, looking extremely grateful, walked around the car halfway to the passenger side and opened the door.
"Thank you, kind Miss Zatanna. My name is Milina—Mirina Black."
"Mirina? Buckle up." Zatanna stepped on the gas. "I can't drive all the way to our destination in one go. There's a small town about a hundred kilometers ahead. We'll rest there tonight."
The middle-aged woman named Milina nodded repeatedly:
"No problem, a journey of over 100 kilometers is enough for me to walk for a whole day, and resting for a night will take much less time than I would normally."
Tonight is a clear night, with the moon high in the sky, illuminating Zatanna's path as if it were daytime.
But the good times didn't last long. Before Zatanna could drive to the town where she was resting, the sky suddenly darkened.
Large swaths of dark clouds obscured the moon.
Snapped!
A raindrop hit the car window, followed by a continuous dripping sound.
Zatanna looked helplessly at the heavy rain outside and said to Milina:
"Mirina, it looks like we'll have to find somewhere to take shelter from the rain for now. I can barely see the road."
Milina clutched her bundle tightly in her arms and nodded to Zatanna:
"Luckily you gave me a ride, otherwise—"
The rain outside seemed to be God opening the floodgates and releasing a torrent; standing in the rain for less than a minute would soak a person to the bone. Thinking of this, Milina hugged the bundle in her arms even tighter.
"That's strange, I don't know why this heavy rain suddenly started."
Zatanna turned on the windshield wipers and tried to move the car as slowly as possible, hoping to find a place to rest by the roadside as soon as possible.
Milina, clutching her bundle, pressed her face against the car window, straining her eyes to help find a place to rest. Luckily, they were fortunate enough to spot a huge "GG" sign standing by the roadside a dozen minutes later.

Lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating the GG sign for a fleeting moment.
Zatanna could see clearly that it was the sign of a doll shop, and even the dolls' faces looked somewhat terrifying in the pitch-black night of the torrential rain.
Milina shivered.
Zatanna parked the car in front of the doll shop and said to Milina:
"Let's get off the bus together. I'll use magic to shield you from the heavy rain for a moment, so your luggage won't get wet."
"Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am a magician, specializing in practical but not flashy little magic tricks."
Milina nodded, opened the car door and got out, instinctively bending over to shield the bundle in her arms from the rain.
Zatanna's magic was indeed very effective; the raindrops slid diagonally off Milina's head as if an invisible umbrella were sheltering her.
Seeing this, Milina felt relieved and ran towards the doll shop with her bundle in her arms.
The moment she stepped into the toy store, another large bolt of lightning struck the sky.
Milina clearly saw two tall, dark figures standing on either side of the doll shop's entrance. One of them was a man with four downward-curving chair-like corners on his helmet, while the other had a high ponytail and an exceptionally hot figure.
Another flash of lightning, and Milina saw that the man was holding a dagger in his hand.
"Your name is Milina Black, right?" the man asked.
Milina nodded subconsciously:
"What do you want to do?"
She was just a middle-aged woman; no one would want her haggard face and withered figure. Those who stopped her were only after her money. Thinking of this, she hid the bag in her arms behind her back.
The man stopped talking, vanished from his spot in a flash, and reappeared behind Milina. He grabbed Milina's hair with one hand and pulled her horizontally with the other, holding a dagger.
With a thud, Milina's head fell to the ground, covered in mud, but was washed clean again by the downpour.
Milina died right in front of Zatanna, and the bundle on her back fell to the ground, the coins inside rolling out.
"What should we do with the woman in the car?" the man asked the woman with a high ponytail next to him, after sheathing his dagger.
"All we need to do is create a small, potentially fatal problem for her," the woman said, as a beam of light flew into the toy shop.
Then their figures vanished into thin air, as if they had never existed.
"No-!"
Zatanna cried out in terror, quickly opening the car door and standing in the pouring rain, simultaneously casting a spell of irony with her hands and mouth:
"Stop intermittently!"
The raindrops immediately hovered in the air, and the bleeding from Milina's body on the ground stopped.
Zatanna rushed over and found that the two murderers who caused Milina's death had disappeared.
She stood at the entrance of the doll shop, looking at Milina's body, and felt a sudden urge to suffocate.
The bundle that had fallen to the ground was completely soaked with rainwater. Zatanna picked it up and found that there were less than fifty dollars inside, including the coin that had rolled out.
"Mirina—I will pass this money on to your child for you, believe me."
Zatanna said to Milina, while deciding in her heart to carefully investigate the information about the two murderers on her way to Nevada.
She went into the doll shop, intending to find a shovel to dig a hole outside and bury Milina, but she froze the moment she stepped into the shop.
One, two, three.
Hundreds of dolls reached out to Zatanna, forcibly pulling her into the store as she was about to take a step back.
In the flash of lightning, each doll wore a chilling smile.
