Chapter 221 Den-O
Connors bullies "Doctor Octopus" in the sewers of New York.
During the day, the murderous aura of "Octopus Doctor" made Gwen doubt her life and almost gave up on continuing to be "Spider-Woman." However, he was powerless against Connors, whose strength was far superior.
Without using any special abilities, Connors was able to deal with "Doctor Octopus" solely with his physical attributes and the ability to shoot spider silk obtained from "polymer chain mimicry".
At the same time, a figure riding a flying skateboard and wearing green demon-like armor quietly appeared outside Gwen's apartment.
"The Green Goblin" cannot see the view inside the apartment, but he knows for sure that this is the residence of his classmate and friend, Gwen.
Without hesitation, he raised his hand, and three or four pumpkin bombs flew out, easily shattering the apartment window and falling into the bedroom.
Ding ding ding.
The pumpkin bomb exploded suddenly after a series of rapid clanging sounds, engulfing Gwen's apartment in flames. The fire quickly spread to curtains, sheets, and all other flammable materials. Gwen quickly put on her patched-up Spider Suit.
"What's going on?"
Gwen muttered something to herself unconsciously; she didn't expect anyone to answer her question.
Without time to think, and seeing that the fire in the apartment building was about to spread to other floors, Gwen jumped from the nineteenth floor.
Her first instinct was to find a fire hydrant and try to put out the fire, but when she kicked open the valve, she was devastated to find that there was no water inside.
It was clearly too late to dig water from other places now, and the sirens of the fire trucks began to sound in the distance. But by the time they got here, the entire apartment building would probably be burned down.
"It's too late," Gwen stared blankly as her apartment, where she still owed rent, was reduced to ashes.
"There's still time. I've always been lucky. There will be a heavy rain tonight."
Connors emerged from the sewer and stood beside Gwen, speaking.
He was prepared to teach "Doctor Octopus" a lesson for a while, but he noticed the anomaly in the apartment the moment he saw it and immediately used "Reality Warp".
Connors didn't learn weather magic when he deciphered Zatanna's secrets, and now it's too late for him to learn it.
However, the ability "Reality Distortion" can achieve a similar effect to magic.
"Reality Distortion: Allows for the distortion and modification of reality to a certain extent!"
The once clear night sky was suddenly drenched by a torrential downpour, extinguishing the fire that was spiraling out of control.
The weather was "distorted," and the heavy rain was accompanied by bursts of thunder and lightning, which occasionally illuminated the dark sky as bright as day.
Kama!
A bolt of lightning struck down from the sky and landed on a New York street.
In the brief moment of bright sky, a shrill, maniacal laugh rang out. "Little Green Goblin" skimmed through the air on his flying skateboard, then threw three or four more pumpkin bombs.
"Again?!"
Gwen let out a strange cry, and the spider silk stuck together in the air, forming a net-like shape that wrapped the pumpkin bombs together.
At the same time, she fired spider silk from both hands toward the tall buildings on either side, and with a slight pull back, her body soared into the air and flew straight upwards.
While flying in the air, Gwen fired another web to catch the pumpkin bomb that had been caught, then twisted her agile body in the air and swung it away forcefully.
The pumpkin bomb that "Little Green Goblin" threw at her was returned to him by Gwen.
Boom!
The pumpkin bomb exploded in the air, creating several clouds of fire. Gwen didn't even glance at it and immediately flew off in another direction in New York.
"I knew all this would happen. I knew they would catch up with me and arrest me."
Gwen flew through the air, seemingly talking to herself, yet also seemingly responding to what Connors had said to her earlier:
"But I've had enough, I've had enough of being a coward, I've had enough of hiding in the shadows."
"They pretend it's all my fault so they can continue living their lives with a clear conscience, while shifting all the pressure onto me."
Gwen turned her head and, unsurprisingly, saw Connors flying slowly beside her:
"The Batman you described has been a great inspiration to me, and I've decided to face all of this."
As they spoke, the two arrived at an abandoned factory in the suburbs of New York.
Gwen looked up at the "Little Green Goblin" chasing after her from afar in the sky, her tone more resolute than ever before:
"You're going to arrest me because of Peter Parker?"
"I can surrender, but first you must come down and listen to every word I have to say."
Gwen faced the "Green Goblin" with composure, fully aware that hidden beneath the green armor was her former friend, "Harry Osborn".
"Arrest you? Who said I was going to arrest you?"
Harry Osborn, the "Green Goblin," let out a wild, shrill laugh that echoed through the stormy night air. The occasional flashes of lightning illuminated his armor, making him appear like a demon from hell.
Harry Osborn drew a longsword from behind him, gripped it with both hands, and then gave it a powerful shake. A vibrant green light enveloped the blade, making it appear indestructible.
He didn't come to arrest Gwen; he came to kill her.
"I wonder what Batman would do if he encountered an enemy like this? Would he try to persuade them with words and reason? Or would he use physical means?"
Gwen dodged and weaved through the abandoned factory, while behind her, the "Green Goblin" charged around with a long sword clenched in both hands.
But this time Gwen was no longer confused. She habitually turned to Connors, who had somehow gotten a sofa to sit on, and asked him a question.
"If you want someone to quiet down and listen to you properly, you first have to defeat them," Connors said.
Gwen's battle suit was ripped in several places by the Green Goblin's longsword, and she looked at her clothes with heartache.
It turns out we'll have to sew several more patches:
"If I were any weaker, I might ask you for help to calm this young master Osborne down."
"But now I've figured it out."
"I don't need applause, I don't need recognition—I am 'Spider-Gwen'!"
The street in New York City, struck by lightning as a torrential downpour was about to begin.
A charred figure lay motionless on the ground, the white smoke rising from it dissipating in the rain.
As the rain washed over him, the man who had been struck by lightning and was almost charred beyond recognition twitched his fingers.
Then the charred remains on its body peeled off, revealing the new skin underneath.
His name is Max, and he is an engineer working for an electrical company under the Osborne Group.
The company had long been deserted, leaving him alone to work overtime until late at night. And it seemed that misfortune was compounded; Max, who had just finished working overtime and hadn't even had a bite of food, was struck by lightning.
Fortunately, he was still alive, but his body seemed to have undergone some kind of change. Looking at the electric sparks dancing on his fingertips, Max got up from the ground somewhat bewildered.
Before he could react, the sewer cover on the side of the street was suddenly blown off, and four mechanical arms extended one after another. One of the mechanical arms grabbed Max and then took him back into the sewer.
