Chapter 132 Inserting Eyes in Heaven
"Are you going to blow the superheroes into the sky?"
"Atomic Girl" was somewhat confused by Connors' actions.
"Yes, Superman and the others are negotiating with Dr. Madman in Kandark. Once they get back here, 'boom!'"
Connors shoved the bomb into Dr. Light's mouth and said to "Atom Girl".
"Even if Lady Shangdu says you're just adjusting the timeline, this is still too cruel."
She was referring to Connors' act of planting a bomb inside Dr. Light's body.
"The demise of a minority is better than the end of the world."
After Connors finished speaking to "Atomic Girl," he disguised the mysterious house as a chair and placed it near the autopsy table.
Connors previously felt somewhat guilty about his actions of using gossip to advance the plot.
But after learning from Lady Shangdu that his actions constituted "time correction," he had no more concerns.
In Paradise, the Phantom Stranger left Connors' "Kusama Man" in Batman's private Paradise and erased "Katana's" memories of Batman's identity.
Just as he was about to use the same method on Catwoman, Batman stopped him:
"Catwoman knows who I am, and Connors, the scarecrow you just secretly dropped, also knows. There's no need to deliberately hide it from them."
"But did Connors say anything about doing anything to this private paradise?"
The Phantom Stranger said:
"Connors also told me that there was no need to hide it from me—that he would bring another Batman here someday, just to take a look."
Batman nodded. He had already learned from various clues Connors had that this guy might come from another world, but this was only now being confirmed.
"Has Dr. Hikari been found?"
The Phantom Stranger shook his head:
"Not yet, but—"
"But I found it." The "dead man" fell from the sky and flew to the side of the crowd.
"How did you do that?" Catwoman asked curiously.
"While you were playing 'Paradise Raising Game,' I searched every corner of this place," the dead man said with a hint of smugness.
"How did you resist the creation of your own paradise in an instant?" Wu Tu Dao asked.
The "dead man" drifted in the air and answered:
"It's simple. I'm a dead man; my paradise doesn't belong here. And you, Phantom Stranger? You don't seem to have entered your own private paradise either?"
"My paradise is on earth—but I am about to lose it."
As soon as the Phantom Stranger finished speaking, "Dr. Light," whose body was filled with light, appeared before them, guided by the "dead man."
Dr. Light was enveloped in light, and the surrounding buildings and mist seemed to be affected, turning into countless rays of light.
"A man who can warp light and manipulate energy would create a world made of pure light. That makes perfect sense," Batman said.
"But he's currently in a deep sleep. How can we wake him up?" Catwoman asked.
"Wake him up, Wu Tu Dao," Batman said.
"Wait, his consciousness is slowly transitioning to heaven. We should let him accept all of this peacefully," Phantom Stranger stopped Batman.
"Besides, no one knows what will happen if we suddenly awaken a recently deceased soul. You also said we can't attract the attention of certain guys in Heaven."
Before the Phantom Stranger could finish speaking, Batman coldly interrupted him:
"But you need to understand the consequences of not doing this! While we're wasting time here, Superman is still suffering endless torment! We're here to help him."
The samurai sword was swung at Hikaru, but the back of the blade was used to cut him down from his floating state to the ground.
"Dr. Light, do you remember what happened before you died? Now that we've checked, you're dead," Catwoman asked.
"How—how would I know? I just found myself suddenly bursting into flames, and then it was over."
After waking up and realizing that he was dead, Dr. Hikaru said helplessly.
"You need to figure out what happened to you. You must remember something!" Batman instinctively used a threatening tone towards criminals.
"Batman, he really doesn't know," Phantom Stranger interjected.
"So we've failed, and this trip has been a complete waste of time," Batman said coldly, "except for the scarecrow Connors left in my paradise."
"No, there's another way. If we bring Dr. Light back and resurrect him, Superman's crimes can be cleared," Phantom Stranger said, seemingly having made up his mind.
"Resurrecting the dead? That's insane," Batman remarked.
The "dead man" glanced at himself silently, not daring to make a witty remark at this moment.
Catwoman, on the other hand, did not have this concern:
"Is this method feasible?"
"I don't know, but I'm going to give it a shot," Phantom Stranger replied. "We can do it."
"I believe in your determination, but determination isn't everything." Dr. Light conjured a star-like point of light from his palm. "If we fail and you can't send me back, then take this with you."
"Give this to my family."
The Phantom Stranger accepted the star-like point of light handed to him by Dr. Light:
"It's a deal, Dr. Guang, but we will not fail."
You have failed.
A grand voice came from the sky, and angelic guardians with wings on their backs and wielding flaming holy swords descended from the heavens.
"Zaulie?"
The Phantom Stranger's loud but unsurprising voice rang out; he had long anticipated this scene.
"Phantom Stranger, I warned you never to come to Heaven again. You knew that if you did, I would have to erase you—completely erase you from history and time."
"Zauli, the guardian angel of heaven, said expressionlessly."
"Eliminate? Wait, you can't do that!" The "dead man" instinctively tried to stop the angel.
"Why did the Phantom Stranger never tell me any of this?" Batman asked, looking at the Phantom Stranger.
"You've caused enough trouble, get out of here."
Zauli pushed everyone away except for Phantom Stranger and Dr. Light.
"Dr. Guang, you have come to rest in heaven. May heaven nourish you."
Dr. Guang fell back into a deep sleep, transitioning towards heaven.
"Phantom Stranger, why did you keep this from them? What's the point? You've sacrificed everything for a complete stranger." The flaming holy sword pointed at Phantom Stranger, and the flames immediately engulfed him.
On Earth-0, the other superheroes who weren't taken away by the Phantom Stranger and Batman remained behind, trying to find their whereabouts.
But these people seemed to have vanished into thin air, until they saw the phantom stranger shrouded in mist in front of a mirror.
"The Phantom Stranger has been found? Where are the others?"
The Flash of the Justice League, the Lantern of the American Justice League, Steve Rogers, Quake, and others gathered in front of the mirror. Quake asked in confusion.
The phantom figure in the mirror, shrouded in smoke, suddenly spoke:
"They were caught between life and death. We questioned Dr. Guang, but he knew nothing. I made a forbidden mistake and must pay the ultimate price."
"I have the power to save your friends, but not myself."
As soon as the Phantom Stranger finished speaking, the mirror shattered, and Batman, the katana, Catwoman, and the dead returned to reality.
"Phantom Stranger?" Shockwave shouted, but the figure was engulfed by flames.
"Has he left?" the Flash asked.
The "dead man" stood to one side:
No, he's dead.
Catwoman pushed her goggles up to her forehead:
"Perhaps we should erect a monument to the Phantom Stranger—Connors said we should remember him."
