Chapter 391 A Backstab from a Good Brother

【Cardia】

It is currently 30k. Apart from the Iron Warriors, the Empire has not yet set foot here. Kadia is still a slowly rotating, ignorant planet within the Eye of Fear.

This is an ancient planet. In some ways, it is very suitable for the development of human civilization. It has vast temperate forests, grasslands, and plains suitable for cultivation. However, no decent human civilization has developed on it.

When the Stormbirds landed, Luo Jia used the Primarch's amazing vision to see the locals hidden in the folds of the earth. They looked rough and wore some kind of religious decorations.

Luo Jia frowned imperceptibly.

Peturabo invited him to a meeting on this "important planet" newly discovered by the Iron Warriors, where it appears the Iron Warriors are trying to build military facilities.

Luo Jia didn't understand why this world, located at the intersection of the subspace and the physical world, was important, nor did he know why Peturabo insisted on building trenches there, but he believed that Peturabo should at least educate the locals before doing so.

The Stormbird landed on the arid plains north of Cadia. Luo Jia stepped out of the Stormbird's ship's door and, through the dry, transparent air, saw Peturabo and the enormous alien building behind him.

what is that?

As Luo Jia thought to himself, he smiled gently and strode toward his brother, while Peturabo also stepped forward to welcome him.

They exchanged a few brief pleasantries, then Peturabo's gaze passed over Luojia and fell upon the Imperial Guards who were guarding Luojia from behind.

【How is this going? 】

Peturabo's mouth moved slightly, and a sound that could only be heard by the two of them rang out.

Luo Jia had his back to the Imperial Guard Vidana. He knew the guard couldn't see his expression, and his smile froze, hanging there awkwardly.

A failed prayer.

Luo Jia spoke softly, as he quickly walked forward, as if avoiding the gaze of the imperial guard.

He was ordered to join the Legion of the Word Bearers after the events of the Perfect City. Although I have repeatedly declared my loyalty to my father, he still did it, and I can understand him.

A strange light flashed in Luo Jia's eyes as he looked at Peturabo, making him feel uneasy.

Do you understand him?

Peturabo raised his voice incredulously.

He has people monitoring you, and you still hope—

Luo Jia stared in astonishment, then quickly stepped forward and tried to grab Peturabo's arm, signaling him to stop talking.

But Perturabo ignored him. The Lord of Steel waved his hand, causing Luo Jia's attempt to miss. Perturabo's deep gray eyes looked at the Imperial Guard, and he spoke in a cold yet provocative tone.

Did the Emperor order you to monitor my conversation with Luo Jia?

The voice of the Imperial Guard, Vidana, rang out in a deep, muffled tone.

"it is my responsibility."

Peturabo gave a sarcastic smile.

[This was just a reunion between brothers. Since when can conversations between Primarchs be eavesdropped on?]

Before Vidana could make things worse, Luo Jia quickly spoke up.

[It's only been a few minutes. I think the Divine Emperor has granted you the authority to act freely, Vidana.]

At the same time, Luo Jia strode forward quickly. The Imperial Guard swayed, but was stopped by Angeltai in front of him. Huai Yanzhe, carrying two long spears, stood silently in the way of the Imperial Guard.

In the end, Vidanna could only watch as the two Primarchs walked into the depths of the wasteland, chatting and laughing.

--------

[I've always wanted you to see this, which is why I invited you to this planet.]

Peturabo spoke, his gaze fixed on the distance. Luo Jia saw a rough-looking local man walking towards them, surrounded by Iron Warriors.

It was a tall woman with eerie violet eyes. Her clothes were made of layers of dry, brown leather, and they were covered with words written in dried blood.

Luo Jia's brows furrowed imperceptibly. He seemed to ignore Peturabo beside him, his gaze fixed intently on the female tribal chief.

What did you see?

Peturabo whispered in Luo Jia's ear, but Luo Jia's brows remained furrowed, her eyes filled with confusion.

[Kolkis?]

Colkith, the homeworld of Primarch Loka.

Luo Jia whispered, "That's... Korkis?!"

Why would a primitive woman from a remote star system have words written in Colchis on her clothes?

As the woman approached, Luo Jia's eyelids twitched imperceptibly. He recognized that the brown skin was dried human skin, and the words on it were prayers from a heretical religion!

By the Divine Emperor!

Luo Jia gripped the scepter in his hand tightly, while Perturabo stood beside him, watching Luo Jia thoughtfully. The Lord of Steel spoke.

Do you recognize those characters, brother?

Luo Jia gritted his teeth; his scepter was already itching to be used. Such a blasphemous existence should not have survived for so long!

He said through gritted teeth,

She practices blasphemous heresy, my brother, you know what I'm about to do—

【etc,】

Peturabo interrupted Luojia.

Why do you recognize these characters, Luojia?

This allowed Luo Jia to briefly detach himself from his displeasure at seeing heresy, and he returned to his initial doubts.

【coincide?】

Luo Jia said uncertainly, staring at the prayers. The words were becoming increasingly familiar; he had seen them before in Colkis.

[...Before I unified Colchis, similar heresies did exist there, but I purged them with the faith of the God-Emperor.]

Luo Jia said seriously,

Listen to me, brother. Perhaps you can't understand the power of faith. It can make the weak strong, or it can corrupt the strong. I'm certain now that the writing on that native's body is heretical prayer. You should kill her.

Luo Jia paused, then his tone softened.

Brother, perhaps you couldn't decipher the writing before, but now you understand. It contains blasphemous words, a culture that should be burned to ashes.

Luo Jia had been staring at the heretic, but suddenly he seemed to realize something. He turned to look at Perturabo and found that Perturabo was also staring at him with a frown.

The Lord of Steel waved his hand, signaling the Steel Warriors to stop holding the native captive.

【I mean, Luojia, why is it such a coincidence? Is it really just a coincidence?】

Luo Jia choked up, then he spoke, seemingly somewhat annoyed.

Are you doubting me, brother? You don't even trust me? And your so-called evidence is just some random planet with the same language as Colkis?

Peturabo innocently spread his hands.

[I'm just worried about you. I'm so curious about what happened in Perfect City—you've changed so much, Luojia.]

Luo Jia took a deep breath and said angrily,

My offspring were corrupted by the heretics of Colchis, but the God-Emperor saved me and my legions. That's how it is!

Peturab began to pace to himself, and he spoke slowly.

I still can't understand your faith, brother. I mean... even after all that happened, why are you still so persistent?

Luo Jia sighed and said sincerely,

I do not believe in Imperial truth, brother—this world has gods, and the God-Emperor is humanity's savior. He created the Primarchs, created the Space Marines, and then launched the Great Crusade to revive all of humanity. He is selfless, He is a god, and we should follow Him and submit to Him.

Peturabo was silent for a moment.

I don't believe he is a god.

he said firmly.

Luo Jia gently shook his head. He had debated this topic countless times with countless Primarchs, but he would still stick to his point of view.

He is,

Luo Jia said,

Only God can perform miracles.

He heard Peturabo chuckle softly, which offended Luo Jia slightly, and Luo Jia became somewhat angry.

Forgive my bluntness, but that's nothing more than what a powerful psionicist could do.

Peturabo said,

[Playing tricks... Why are you the only one who took it seriously?]

Peturabo's language gradually became sharper, and Luojia frowned.

[We both know that it far exceeds human capabilities. I've discussed this with Magnus, and Magnus himself admitted that the God-Emperor's power is beyond the reach of ordinary psychics; even Magnus himself cannot reach His level.]

【not to mention……】

Luo Jia paused for a moment,

[Perhaps more than one...]

He said softly, and Luo Jia thought of Hades, the corrector under the God Emperor.

【perhaps. 】

Peturabo's voice rang out, but Luo Jia was unsure which of Luo Jia's statements he was referring to.

Peturabo said,

Please allow me to ask an offensive question, brother, why did you choose to believe in him?

Luo Jia was getting impatient. He spoke up.

It wasn't that I chose Him. Rather, He chose me—He showed His believers the way, giving them the strength to live and fight.

Luo Jia turned his head and saw Peturabo staring straight at him, a look in his eyes that Luo Jia couldn't understand. Peturabo's hand was casually resting on his waist.

That sounds interesting.

Perturabo aptly remarked that before Luo Jia could refute him, the Lord of Steel promptly changed the subject.

Let's take a look at some exotic architecture I recently discovered; I find these far more interesting than those mystical indigenous buildings.

Peturabo said casually, glancing at the native woman, and ordered the Iron Warriors to take her forward.

【After I've given you the tour, you can execute her right in front of that alien building. Actually, there are quite a few primitive people like this on this planet. I've gathered them all in front of that alien building; you can do whatever you want with them.】

Peturabo showed little interest, but he quickly changed the subject, his tone becoming more animated.

[You should take a look at this. I recently discovered them—Blackstone obelisks. These structures appear to have been built by some more ancient race. They're scattered around the Eye of Terror, emitting force fields that hinder the dissipation of warp turbulence.]

As Peturabo spoke, he walked quickly forward, and Luo Jia had to hurry to keep up with him. However, he was not very interested in what Peturabo was saying. He listened in silence, but his mind was full of thoughts about how to purge the heretics from this planet.

Luo Jia was not sure why Perturabo's topic was jumping around so much, and the words of the Lord of Steel flew past his ears.

These structures are quite ingenious. According to my calculations, without these obelisks suppressing the subspace of this area, and if they were destroyed, half of the Misty Starfield and a small portion of the Limit Starfield would be plunged into subspace turbulence.

But what interests me even more is...

Peturabo said,

The polarity of these structures can be reversed; they can amplify the subspace. If we change the polarity of these arrays—then the destruction they can cause will be far more profound.

Luo Jia paused abruptly, glancing at Peturabo with a subtle look.

This sounds dangerous.

【Yes,】

Peturabo naturally replied,

"So I'm glad you came, brother. Iron Warriors alone can't completely control this area."

Luo Jia smiled, but then he sensed something. He seemed to hear a bird's cry, a roar, a whisper, and a panting breath.

He turned his head and stared at the obelisk they were approaching, which didn't look like it was in operation.

Is that obelisk currently operational?
