Which one do you favor?

Don't change the subject, Mortarian.

However, Mortarion is probably quite free right now and in a good mood.

The original team stayed up all night to finish today's approval tasks so that they could focus on screening new candidates without any distractions.

Hades briefly imagined the scene: Mortarion was standing idly on the mountaintop, lost in thought.

Hopefully, someone will manage to reach the summit; otherwise, Hades can guess that Mortarion will be wearing a look of utter dismay on his face for the next few days.

Hades naturally ignored Mortarian's jump and turned to the image in the helmet.

"I think this child looks good."

A thin figure appeared in the picture.

The child initially traveled at a slow pace, but when he reached an area with concentrated poison gas, he immediately sped up without any hesitation.

His goal is very clear.

Hades exclaimed.

He initially conserved his strength, then accelerated once he reached an area with concentrated toxic gas, in order to reduce the damage caused by the high-altitude toxic gas.

While Mortarion's aim is to select resilient individuals, wisdom and strategy are indispensable.

He may not be the most resilient, but he is clearly capable of reaching the highest point he can achieve.

"Fleming is from a northern village."

Mortarion's voice came through; the Primarch who had been in charge of the registration and recruitment had memorized all the children's information.

“You do have a preference for this type of person, Hades.”

"If it were you, I think you would do the same."

"Motalian said, half-jokingly."

Hades chuckled, realizing that was indeed the case.

Just a bit of cleverness.

"You should expect him to meet the passing standard; this boy's stats are average."

"You can definitely tell."

Hades nodded.

"Which one do you like?"

He threw the question back at him.

Mortarian selected a few people, and Hades glanced at them briefly; they were indeed promising talents capable of reaching the summit.

Since it was estimated that the children would have a long time before they reached the summit, the two began to chat casually.

Up, up, up

Despair, regret, and fear gripped him tightly.

Antai's vision began to blur, the poisonous gas stung him, and his exposed skin began to soften, peeling off with the slightest rub.

He futilely covered his gas mask, which was tattered and could no longer provide any effective protection.

His hands, which were holding the gas mask, were already scraped and peeling, with blood flowing out and quickly turning color and congealing under the influence of the poison gas.

My lungs were convulsing violently, and an unbearable stinging pain was coming from there.

He's dying.

Death's scythe is slicing its own throat again and again.

The brain, exhausted and paralyzed by the toxic gas, was no longer able to think much.

Only the obsession remains.

Change his life upward

He should leave here and never farm again.

"boom!"

The person in front of Antai fell to the ground.

Antai ignored him and continued forward numbly.

There weren't as many "corpses" lying ahead as Antai had imagined; it seemed they had all continued upwards.

Antaeus continued climbing; he was almost there. Almost there.

There was no one in front of him, and the thick poisonous gas made it impossible for him to even see the ground further away.

Not there yet. Upwards, upwards.

The excruciating pain in his lungs had subsided; the agony had subsided. He was just incredibly tired.

"boom!"

Antai's knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the cold ground.

His vision went black—

No! Can't die!

Antai bit his tongue, and the slight pain in his mouth brought him back to his senses.

The straps binding the gas mask had long been broken by the toxic gas, and the fall directly exposed Ante's mouth and nose to the gas.

His mouth and nose were warm; was that blood?

Instinctively, Antaeus buried his face in the ground, pressing it against the earth, which made him feel a little better.

So he reached out and slowly continued upwards, dragging his body along.

He lay prone.

Upward Upward

Antai's fingernails broke off, some even snapping in two, with dirt mixed in.

But he continued upwards.

Spots of red were dragged away behind him, and blood began to flow from his ear.

Improvement

A large hand gently lifted him up, and a cold cloth was placed over his mouth and nose.

Antaeus strained to see the person in front of him through his bleeding eyes.

Those eyes, shining like stars, were looking at him.

“My child, you are strong enough.”

And so Antai finally fainted.

Mortarian looked at the first chosen one to reach the summit and began to give Antaeus emergency treatment in a good mood.

He had done similar things countless times since he established the resistance army.

Now, he can patiently wait for the second brave person to reach the summit.

There will be another update tonight, catching up on yesterday's missed update!

Chapter 140 Hades, Don't scare the kids!

(I mislabeled the previous post, damn it! I'll fix it on Monday.)

Unbelievable, truly unbelievable.

Hades stood beside Mortarion, the obituary tilted, its pure black scythe reflecting the dim moonlight of Barbarus.

He stared in astonishment at the two blood-stained boys.

Mortarian had already bound the two children into something like mummies with bandages and medical gel, but the bloodstains on them still testified to the near-death experience the two children had gone through.

The boy named An Tai was burly and had big hands and feet.

He is now bleeding from all seven orifices, and all ten fingernails are broken.

Antaeus had climbed up the mountain by sheer willpower, and a long trail of blood was clearly visible on Hades's path to the summit.

The other child, however, truly shocked Mortalian and Hades.

This child, this child named Pasteur, climbed to the top of the mountain from the other side of the cliff!

Instead of taking the designated main road, he chose to go around it and climb the cliff!

Because they thought it was impossible for anyone to come up the mountain from there, and because it wasn't even a proper route, the Death Guard didn't even station any apothecaries or guards there.

What is this? A ruthless person indeed.

Even Hades, who had been to the battlefield, couldn't help but sigh when he saw the boy whose arms and legs were bruised and bloodied.

"I noticed a sound coming from the other side of the cliff."

Motarian said slowly, picking up both children as he prepared to descend the mountain.

"Then I went over and saw him clinging tightly to the cliff face, staring straight at me."

"incredible."

Motalian said,

Why didn't he take the main road?

Hades asked his question.

Mortarian shrugged.

"The other side of the cliff is the windward slope, where the toxic gas will flow and is more difficult to accumulate."

"In other words, the toxic gas is less concentrated on that side."

But it's merely a comparison.

Hades looked at the child; Pasteur's arms were almost worn raw.

"That's why I acknowledged his resilience."

Temporary canteen.

At a four-person dining table, An Tai was stuffing cornbread into his mouth, with a bowl of white porridge in front of him.

Beside him, Pasteur was also holding a spoon, diligently scooping up porridge to drink.

Although the porridge tasted strange, it was a delicacy for the two children who had just woken up from a coma.

Across from the two who were frantically eating, two other children were watching them curiously.

"My God, guys, the final round of selection has been over for days, how come you're only getting in now?"

A boy winked at them and gave them a sly smile.

"Could it be that you're related to some kind of bureaucrat?"

His companion struck him directly.

"Don't talk nonsense!"

Io whispered to his friend Lena.

Then Io smiled awkwardly and apologetically at the two people opposite him.

"Sorry, my friend isn't very bright."

Hey! What are you doing—

Io pinched Lena under the table again, and now Lena finally shut up.

Having finally swallowed the steamed bun, Antaeus raised his head and looked intently at Igor.

"My name is Antey."
