Chapter 422 Not to be Exposed
Chapter 422 Not to be Exposed
Chen Anran stood on the cliff behind the Yunyin Sect, gazing at the lights gradually illuminating the area below.
Dusk was falling. The last rays of sunset were fading from the horizon.
In the settlements at the foot of the mountain, the square houses lit up one after another.
Footsteps sounded behind me, very light, as if afraid of disturbing something.
He didn't turn around.
The footsteps stopped behind him.
"Master Chen" refers to Huiming.
Chen Anran continued to gaze down the mountain without saying a word.
Huiming wasn't in a hurry; he just stood there, fiddling with the sandalwood prayer beads in his hand.
"Is everything settled?" Chen Anran finally asked.
"Yes," Huiming said. "Qingyang Gu Xuanzhenzi and the five Golden Core elders have been arranged in a private courtyard on the west side of the resort. The remaining disciples, those who wish to stay (327 in total) have been temporarily housed in the makeshift dormitory; those who wish to leave have had their cultivation abolished, have been given travel expenses, and are free to do as they please. As for the Hehuan Sect, Benefactor Qi Lan personally handled the arrangements. The Zidian Sect and the other smaller sects have also been dealt with according to regulations."
Chen Anran nodded.
"What was Xuanzhenzi's reaction?"
Huiming remained silent for a moment.
"He asked the young monk," Huiming said slowly, "whether the Cloud Hidden Sect is from the Immortal Alliance."
A faint smile appeared on Chen Anran's lips.
The smile was brief, so brief it was almost imperceptible.
"What did you say?"
“This humble monk says,” Huiming said, pressing his palms together, “that Master Chen has his own background, and this humble monk cannot say more.”
Chen Anran remained silent.
Immortal Alliance.
He had heard of that name. It was said to be a figure revered by all cultivators on this continent.
It's unclear why such an organization would disappear after three thousand years.
However, Chen Anran already had a vague guess in his heart that the Immortal Alliance was probably destroyed by Su Wan and her disciples.
But since they are the senior sister's enemy, then...
Chen Anran's gaze darkened slightly.
He didn't continue thinking about it, only saying, "Let them imagine for now; we don't need to explain."
Huiming clasped his hands together and bowed slightly: "Master Chen is brilliant. Let them guess. The deeper they guess, the more they think, the less they dare to act rashly. The words 'Immortal Alliance' are enough to keep someone like Xuanzhenzi awake at night, tossing and turning."
He paused, a faint smile appearing on his lips. "Judging from Xuanzhenzi's expression, he's already plotting how to gain favor with the new master. Elder Leixiaozi is even more impatient, trying several times to get information out of him, but I've turned him away each time."
Chen Anran didn't speak, but just looked at the lights that were gradually lighting up below the mountain.
Huiming continued, "Master Chen's move not only won over these people, but also won them over. Getting them to confide in us about the 'Immortal Alliance' is far more effective than us saying a thousand words. From now on, they'll only think more and more that it's true, and the more they ponder it, the more they'll believe it. After all, Master Chen possesses such extraordinary abilities."
He twirled his prayer beads, his voice tinged with emotion: "Having followed Master Chen for so many years, I've come to realize more and more that Master Chen's use of the three words 'not revealing the truth' is more ingenious than any supernatural power. He lets them guess, he lets them think, he lets them convince themselves. Such methods are beyond my reach."
Chen Anran finally turned her head and glanced at Huiming.
"Huiming, when did you learn to flatter people?"
'
Huiming paused slightly, then smiled, a smile carrying the composure of a monk: "Amitabha, this humble monk is not flattering you, but simply stating the truth. If Master Chen is displeased, this humble monk will refrain from speaking further."
Chen Anran didn't reply, but simply looked down the mountain again.
Dusk deepened. More and more lights appeared at the foot of the mountain, forming a warm sea of light. The smoke from the cooking fires at Xian Shan Fang had dissipated, replaced by wisps of smoke rising from the stoves of each household, curling and ascending in the night.
"How is Wei Yiran doing?" Chen Anran suddenly asked.
Huiming paused for a moment.
"Reporting to Master Chen," Huiming said, his previous ease vanishing, and his tone becoming serious, "Benefactor Wei went to the Immortal Cuisine Restaurant with Xiaoling'er, had a meal, and is currently being accommodated at the International Hot Spring Hotel."
He paused slightly, then couldn't help but ask, "Master, should we take Benefactor Wei back to the mountain?"
Chen Anran shook her head, "No matter how much she looks like her, even if she's from a past life, she will never be my second senior sister."
........................
Night was falling.
Wei Yiran stood at the door of her room on the third floor of the International Hot Spring Hotel, gazing at the spacious, almost unreal space inside, and hesitated to take a step.
"Sister Wei, come in!" Little Ling'er had already run inside and turned back to wave at her.
Wei Yiran took a deep breath and stepped inside.
Then she froze.
The room was much bigger than she had imagined.
No, it's not just big, it's "too big". It's so big that if you put her in the boudoir in the general's mansion, it would probably only take up a corner.
Beneath her feet lay a smooth, warm surface, its color soft and gentle. It felt subtly warm to the touch, unlike the coldness of bluestone or the roughness of cement. She glanced down; the surface was so smooth it reflected her image, mirroring her somewhat dazed face.
"This is underfloor heating." Xiao Ling'er had run back to her side at some point, squatted down, and placed her palms on the ground. "It's so warm in winter, you can walk on it barefoot without feeling cold. Junior Sister Mengmeng said it uses circulating hot spring water, and the whole hotel is like this."
Wei Yiran remained silent.
She raised her head, her gaze slowly sweeping over every corner of the room.
Directly opposite the door was a floor-to-ceiling window, its glass so transparent it seemed almost nonexistent, offering a clear view of the brightly lit residential area outside. Two heavy curtains hung in front of the window, their color a grayish-blue she couldn't name, shimmering softly under the lamplight.
A large bed stood against the wall, covered with snow-white bedding, its pillows fluffy like two clouds. On the bedside table sat a simply designed brass lamp with a milky-white glass shade, which was currently lit, emitting a warm glow.
Beside the bed was a set of furniture of dubious purpose: a long couch, several soft chairs, and a low table in the middle. The couch and chairs were covered with thick cushions, the colors of which matched the curtains, and they felt incredibly soft to the touch.
Further inside, there is another door.
Wei Yiran subconsciously walked over and pushed open the door.
A humid, hot smell wafted over me.
Inside the door was a small space, and the floor was lower than outside.
In the very center was a square pool, its water clear and steaming gently. The edges of the pool were smooth and rounded, and the height was just right for sitting down. In the corner stood a wooden shelf, on which were neatly folded white cloths and several earthenware jars.
"That's a private hot spring." Xiao Ling'er followed her over, leaned close to her, and peered inside. "It's very comfortable to soak in there."
