According to a unified standard, namely the level of abstraction, all disciplines can be formed into a discipline tree.
Philosophy, with its highest level of abstraction, stands at the pinnacle, the most dazzling jewel on the tree of wisdom. It is divided into natural sciences and humanities. Mathematics is at the forefront of the natural sciences, followed by physics, chemistry, biology, and so on.
Literature and art occupy the top spot among the humanities disciplines, followed by history, economics, political science, sociology, and so on.
The level of abstraction first and foremost sets a basic requirement for intelligence; the higher the level of abstraction, the higher the intelligence required. On the other hand, some disciplines require a high degree of knowledge accumulation, the most typical example being history, in which geniuses are unlikely to emerge.
Therefore, we can say that geniuses can only emerge in highly abstract fields that do not require a high level of knowledge accumulation.
Classic examples include Wittgenstein in philosophy, Gauss in mathematics, Einstein in physics, Goethe in literature, and Mozart in music.
Of course, in ancient Greece, when all disciplines were in their infancy, the founders of each discipline were geniuses, and Aristotle was undoubtedly an encyclopedic genius.
Ancient China was arguably the country with the deepest understanding of the science of the soul. The theories of the three souls and seven spirits, along with its comprehensive system of reincarnation, demonstrate the country's profound knowledge of the soul. If one wants to know what's wrong with oneself, the best way is to return to the mystical realm of China.
After all, one's soul should be considered a product of that region, and it's a good match for one's profession.
Having made up his mind to take some time to visit China after arriving in Japan, he finally snapped out of his reverie and then realized that everyone was looking at him with strange eyes.
"Why are you all staring at me?" Yue Zhengling asked, taking off her headphones, puzzled.
Gray and Barthezmello remained silent, as did Orange and Arthur, who exchanged a glance but did not respond. Only Rani spoke in a calm voice: "Just now, your right eye seemed a little strange."
"Strange? What's strange? Hmm, I'll see for myself. Does anyone have a mirror?" Yue Zhengling covered her right eye with one hand, very curious about what had just happened.
“It’s no use, it’s already back to normal,” Rani said, shaking her head slightly.
"So, what exactly happened to my eyes just now?" Yue Zhengling asked, looking at Arthur, who was closest to him.
As a Heroic Spirit, and being the closest to him, he believed Arthur must have seen it very clearly.
“Your eyes just now turned black.” Arthur stared at Yue Zhengling’s eyes, which were covered by his palm, as if he wanted to see through that hand again.
"What's so strange about that? My eyes are naturally black." Yue Zhengling paused for a moment, then said in a strange tone.
“…Ling, your eyes are red, aren’t they?” Arthur kindly reminded him, but what happened next made Arthur’s expression change drastically.
"What red? I'm Asian, it's not a disease, how could my eyes be any other color? Do you think this is a second time—"
Just as Yue Zhengling opened his mouth, the space was suddenly filled with a grand aura. Whether it was Rani, who didn't have much emotion, or Arthur, the strongest person here, they all felt a sense of powerlessness—a feeling that came from their life instincts, knowing that they could not fight back.
Before Yue Zhengling could finish speaking, his expression became very dazed, and he stood there with his mouth half open.
"hear!"
"Listen to me!"
Amid two gasps of surprise, Yue Zhengling was bound by a thin red thread and silently vanished from this world.
All that remained were the headphones and ocarina that had slipped to the ground.
After Yue Zhengling completely disappeared, the aura in the air slowly faded away.
"Wait!" Arthur shouted at the empty air, "Where did you send Ling?!"
The aura in the air intensified once more. Arthur sensed this aura with a grim expression, his Holy Lance itching to strike. But soon his expression relaxed, and he finally sat back down, lost in thought.
Orange wasn't as excited as Arthur because she had already been informed that Yue Zhengling would be leaving, and she could roughly guess what that aura was.
Once that aura completely disappeared, everyone unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief; the pressure they had just felt was simply too great.
Orange walked to where Yue Zhengling had been, picked up the ocarina and headphones, then sat down in that spot and asked Arthur with a serious expression.
"What did that person say to you just now?"
Arthur's expression became very unnatural, and his bewildered look made Orange realize the seriousness of the situation.
"Is it dangerous?" Orange asked again.
"...I don't know. It only warned me not to interfere." Arthur gritted his teeth in frustration. Since that being said so, it meant he really couldn't interfere casually unless he found a way to find a loophole. Otherwise, the other party's will was an ironclad rule.
"So what do you mean?" Orange touched the still-warm ocarina, quietly put on her headphones, and prepared to play the music.
“Of course I can’t just ignore it, but I have no idea where Ling went, and my ability to move between worlds is random, so I can’t find him at all.” Arthur stared blankly at the oven in front of him, the meat on it still not cooked.
"If you were to travel between worlds, what phenomena would occur?" Orange suddenly asked.
Arthur, oblivious to the smugness in her tone, remained expressionless but answered clearly, "It was probably my body glowing, and then golden lines appeared under my feet."
"Just like you are now?" Orange looked at Arthur's feet with a strange expression.
Arthur was taken aback by what he heard, then looked down at his feet. The familiar light filled him with disbelief. "Yes, just like now."
Then, a familiar voice rang in everyone's ears—
Declare!
You're beneath me—Pah! What the hell!
Hey! C-Mom! This spell is wrong! Are you taking advantage of me because I don't know magic?! Believe me or not, I'll tell Uncle Kuzuki about your dark past!
Ha, yeah, I'm threatening you! What are you going to do about it?!
Since the incantation was just for show, you should have said so earlier. Alright, whoever it is, they must be someone I'm destined to meet. I'm about to have a large-scale brawl, so come and help if you hear my call!
Upon hearing this energetic voice, Arthur and Orange could hardly believe it was the person they knew. But Arthur quickly picked up the Holy Lance and stood up. Even more miraculously, his Holy Sword suddenly appeared in his other hand.
Arthur glanced at everyone, then nodded to Orange, "I'll go first."
Orange sighed and nodded helplessly, "Lingjun, I'm leaving it to you. But I have a feeling that you and he will come back here."
Arthur smiled and nodded, then disappeared from this world along with Yue Zhengling.
The gears turned again, and those who didn't care about right or wrong began to gather.
Volume 3: Stories You Never Heard
Chapter 162 Deviation of World Lines
As Yue Zhengling disappeared from Arthur's side, Lavinia, far away in the Atlas Academy, opened her eyes. The surrounding starry sky instantly reversed, and Yue Zhengling, who was sleeping next to her with her hand clasped, became very blurry.
"No, we can't leave. We can only send the memories and experiences over." She spoke haltingly, in words no one could understand.
The moon, which had been left unobserved, trembled violently twice after she finished speaking.
Then, seeing that Yue Zhengling had stabilized, Lavinia nodded in satisfaction and closed her eyes again.
"We'll be back, soon. Everyone's here, together..."
When Yue Zhengling came to his senses, he found himself lying in a white sea of flowers, with the universe above him. Yes, not the starry sky, but the universe. All the planets seemed to be within reach, shrunk and displayed in front of him, eliminating any sense of distance.
"...My memories have returned, so who is it that every time I come here, I return everything to them, and then takes even more from me when I leave?"
Upon re-entering this place, all memories returned, including the blank space between the two lifetimes, the part taken away when I went to Avalon, and the part before the end of the world.
“You’ll catch a cold lying on the ground.” Just as Yue Zhengling was feeling disheartened, a refined and noble voice sounded from his left.
Le Zhengling moved her eyes listlessly and saw a long-haired figure wearing a twelve-layered kimono. Her long hair was very distinctive—the sides of her hair stuck up like cat ears.
Le Zhengling knew who this person was, but precisely because she knew, she didn't want to speak.
"What's wrong? Have you lost confidence just like that?" The person didn't do anything else, just hummed a cheerful tune.
“Root Style, we’re not familiar with each other, are we?” Yue Zhengling (?) turned over and answered in a weak voice.
"We're not familiar with each other now, but who knows what the future holds?" The person hummed a song as they slowly walked away. "Don't lose so easily, or I'll be very disappointed."
Le Zhengling (?) raised one hand and waved it twice, then slammed it down again, making a frustrated sound: "Okay, okay~"
After a long, long time, he turned around and sat up again. Looking around at the empty surroundings, he quietly closed his eyes, his lips moving softly as if blowing bubbles, "Since there's no escaping it, then let it continue, but I won't be so easily..."
Before he could finish speaking, another ball of light was extracted from his body and floated in mid-air. Then, Le Zhengling disappeared from the spot with lifeless eyes.
After he disappeared, the figure reappeared, picked up the ball of light, and placed it in front of him.
"Divided into Yin and Yang, rotating through the Four Symbols, and condensed into the Eight Trigrams. So, what will the ending be? I really have something to look forward to. However, for me now, it's just an unreal dream. I look forward to the day you touch the future."
She put the ball of light into her sleeve pocket and slowly drifted towards the sky until she disappeared.
"Yes, that's it." Yue Zhengling put down his teacup and said to Merlin across from him. He had just told Merlin everything that had happened to him, but of course, he couldn't tell him what he didn't know.
"Wait, you haven't finished yet, have you? Didn't you say you learned martial arts over there? Where's the person who taught you martial arts?" Merlin looked at Yue Zhengling with a half-smile, seemingly unfathomable.
"Yeah, I did learn it, but not this one. I just know it because I've connected to the network." Le Zhengling shrugged indifferently.
"What do you mean?" Merlin stared at him wide-eyed, puzzled, as if trying to discern something from his face.
"It's complicated to explain, just think of it as a dream I had and then a strange encounter." Le Zhengling waved his hand, "That was something that happened during testing on the moon, don't worry about it."
Merlin nodded thoughtfully. "I see. That explains why your Spirit Origin Mode is so strange. However, I didn't expect Arthur and Meryl to be so decisive as to give you a part of their Spirit Origin. If they hadn't done so, I think you might have already dissipated."
"I suppose so," Yue Zhengling replied, then looked at Merlin. There were some questions he wanted to ask, namely, that in the very beginning, Merlin must have noticed that there was something wrong with his soul, but he only helped him with minor issues, which made him a little conflicted.
But considering that this guy was originally a ruthless nightmare demon, whether he did it or not depended entirely on his whim, and that he was just a harmless bystander like himself, it was already a stroke of luck that he helped him, so he couldn't ask for too much.
"Alright, let's stop here for today. Someone's already looking for you outside. If you want to see me, just add that stuff to your drink." Merlin didn't press further; what Yue Zhengling had just told him was enough for him to process for a while.
Moreover, he was ultimately just an observer and had no right to point fingers at the other party.
"Merlin, after everything that has happened, I've thought of a possibility."
Just when Merlin thought Yue Zhengling would leave directly, the other party suddenly said this.
"What's possible?" Merlin waited patiently for what he would say next.
Le Zhengling looked up and saw through the thick fog what was happening outside. Rafe Lenore was standing at the door of Leonardo da Vinci's workshop, pointing to his own body and talking to Leonardo da Vinci.
Olga Marie, looking anxious, started yelling at Leonardo da Vinci.
“That’s the timeline I came to, and it must all be abnormal,” Yue Zhengling said absentmindedly as he carefully examined Olga Marie.
"???" Merlin looked at him in confusion.
"The worldlines I know are slightly different from the one I'm in. In the original worldline, Araya Sōren had been to China and graduated from the Clock Tower long ago. In the apocalyptic worldline, all the dangerous items are kept together, and the Twenty-Seven Ancestors and Heroic Spirits all existed. But in this worldline—"
At this point, Yue Zhengling seemed to deliberately pique Merlin's curiosity and deliberately stopped.
Merlin glared at him, annoyed. Having lived with him for so long, whenever he got to a suspenseful part, he would always make a request. "I don't have anything good to offer you here."
"No, you don't need to give me anything, just cooperate with me in the future." Yue Zhengling revealed a victorious smile.
"So, how is this world different from what you know?" Merlin stood beside him and looked outside with him.
“The difference in this world is that Olga Marie…” Looking at this little girl who should be the same age as Mashu, Yue Zhengling revealed a strange smile.
Chapter 163 Exploring the Causes of the Burning of Humanity
"So, what are you going to do next?" Merlin asked with a smile, looking at the malicious expression on Yue Zhengling's face.
I feel that he has changed a lot since we met again. The biggest change is that Ling now has the same kind of "watching the fun" vibe as me.
"You'll find out soon enough~" Yue Zhengling snapped his fingers. "Well then, farewell for now, Sword Saint of Avalon."
After saying that, he disappeared without a trace of regret. Then, in reality, he opened his eyes in annoyance and yelled at the noisy group of people, "What's all the noise about! Are you trying to keep me from sleeping?!"
The sound of someone being grumpy in the morning startled everyone. Le Zhengling propped himself up from the sofa and glanced around the workshop. There was Da Vinci, Romani, Rafe, Olga Marie, Mashu, and Fou.
He waved to Fou, who jumped out of Mashu's arms and onto Yue Zhengling's shoulder.
"How long have I been asleep?" Le Zhengling asked Leonardo da Vinci.
"Approximately two hours, six minutes, and thirty-five seconds," Leonardo da Vinci answered precisely.
He rubbed his head, propped himself up on the armrest, and then, with his eyes half-closed, murmured softly, "A drunken illusion."
Although the magic effect is greatly reduced without a wand, it's still fine for self-defense.
"Da Vinci, can I see the records from the Heroic Spirit Summoning System?" After chatting with Merlin, he was still very curious about the so-called Ji Ling. Although Merlin told him not to delve into it, how could such a thing be possible?
“If it’s that thing, you’ll have to ask Professor Rafe.” Da Vinci smiled and stepped aside. Rafe took three steps at a time and walked up to him, looking down at him.
Olga Marie, who was tugging at his clothes, seemed to have found a backer and glared angrily at the heroic spirit she had summoned.
Le Zhengling glared at her, and she shrank behind Rafe with a "whoosh".
“This heroic spirit, please do not frighten Olga Marie.” Professor Rafe said to Yue Zhengling in a tone that sounded like he was negotiating. These words seemed to be protecting Olga Marie, but in fact, they were deliberately meant to create distance between Olga Marie and Yue Zhengling.
"Ah, cuckold, are you saying I'm threatening her?" Le Zhengling looked at Rafe with a puzzled expression. Just as he had discovered before, the timelines he had been to were all problematic.
And this is the problem of the world, Olga Marie.
In 2003, Olga Marie was 11 years old in the movie "The Train to the Demon Eye".
