Chapter 403 Let's get something practical.
In the evening, Lu Cheng and Ming Xiangyang returned.
Lan Wei and Yao Fen were Shen Li's closest friends. There was nothing to hide about Shen Li's private affairs, especially given their long-standing friendship. Even if they didn't say anything, they could still see some clues.
After dinner, Lu Cheng and Ming Xiangyang took the children upstairs to rest, leaving the living room to the three women.
Shen Li looked at Lan Wei, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Weiwei, you know Xiangyang's medical skills. How about I have him take a look at you? Maybe he can find out what the problem is."
Actually, Lan Wei didn't have children in the two years before she got married, and Shen Li thought it was because she didn't want them for the time being. Later, he found out that she had already started trying to conceive, but hadn't been able to.
Shen Li had previously mentioned asking Ming Xiangyang to take a look, but Lan Wei didn't agree at the time, so Shen Li didn't insist.
Moreover, Shen Li knew that Lan Wei had actually liked Ming Xiangyang back then, and perhaps it was because of this relationship that she was unwilling to let Ming Xiangyang treat her.
Lan Wei looked at Shen Li, her expression complex, and asked, "You... don't mind?"
Shen Li was taken aback for a moment, then laughed: "Why would I mind? Who hasn't liked a few people when they were young? It's perfectly normal. Besides, Xiang Yang was already very outstanding. The fact that you liked him back then shows that you had good taste."
Hearing this, Lan Wei's worries finally dissipated. She pursed her lips and smiled with relief: "Okay, thank you for your help."
Seeing that she nodded in agreement, Shen Li immediately stood up: "Wait here, I'll go upstairs and call him."
Upstairs in the study, Ming Xiangyang was sitting at his desk reading documents.
Ming Xiangyang has his own bedroom in the manor, as well as a separate study with a double desk. He and Shen Li sometimes work together there.
Seeing Shen Li push the door open and enter, Ming Xiangyang put down the documents in his hand, looked up at her, and asked gently, "They're gone?"
Shen Li walked to his side, and before she could speak, Ming Xiangyang reached out and pulled her into his arms, letting her sit on his lap.
"She hasn't left," Shen Li said softly, leaning against him. "Lan Wei and Xiang Cheng have been married for several years, but she hasn't been able to conceive. I'd like you to take a look at her."
Ming Xiangyang paused for a moment, and the smile on his face faded slightly.
He remained silent for a moment, thinking to himself: diagnosing pregnancy involves asking a lot of personal questions, so it's not convenient to show her directly.
Shen Li noticed his predicament and looked up at him: "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
Ming Xiangyang gently ruffled her hair and suggested, "How about this, I'll recommend a doctor to her and have her go to Liyang Hospital for a checkup. I'll go and see her test results, and then prescribe some medication specifically for her. This way it's convenient and avoids any awkwardness. What do you think?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Li immediately nodded: "Great idea! You've thought of everything."
Ming Xiangyang picked up the pen on the table, wrote the doctor's name on a sticky note, and then found the doctor's contact information on his phone and wrote it down as well: "This is the doctor's information. Tell her to just say that I referred her, and she can see the doctor directly without having to queue or register."
Shen Li looked at his strong and sharp handwriting on the note and felt a warmth in her heart. She looked up at him and said, "Okay, thank you, Xiangyang."
Ming Xiangyang looked down at her, his eyes full of doting affection, his tone slightly teasing: "Saying thank you is no good, you have to do something practical."
Shen Li pursed her lips, rolled her eyes, and said to him, "Close your eyes."
Ming Xiangyang smiled and shook his head, then obediently closed his eyes.
Seeing this, Shen Li tried to slip out of his arms, but as soon as she moved, Ming Xiangyang held her tightly around the waist.
He opened his eyes, his gaze full of amusement: "Trying to get something for free? Not so easy."
Before Shen Li could react, Ming Xiangyang lowered his head and kissed her. The kiss carried a hint of punishment, yet was also filled with deep affection, and it wasn't a light touch.
Shen Li reached out to push him, but her strength was utterly insignificant compared to Ming Xiangyang's, and she could only let out soft sobs: "Ugh...okay...stop it..."
A minute later, Ming Xiangyang slowly released her.
Shen Li leaned against him, panting heavily. She felt her tongue was numb. She looked up and glared at him with a resentful expression.
Seeing her puffed-up face, like a cat with its fur standing on end, Ming Xiangyang couldn't help but ruffle her hair again, his tone carrying a hint of threat: "If you keep staring at me like that, you're not going down tonight."
Shen Li panicked and quickly grabbed the notepad on the table. She struggled to jump down from his arms and hurried toward the door, afraid that if she was a step too late, he would really leave her there.
When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she stopped to tidy her messy hair and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. After confirming that she was alright, she slowly went downstairs.
Lan Wei felt a sense of relief as she watched Shen Li come down alone.
In fact, she had seen many doctors before, and those doctors always asked all sorts of private questions, which made her very uncomfortable.
She had agreed to Shen Li's request out of momentary weakness, but regretted it as soon as she turned around. Now that Ming Xiangyang hadn't come down, she felt a little relieved.
Shen Li handed her a note and said with a smile, "Xiangyang knows a doctor at Liyang Hospital, a female doctor. When you have time, call this number and say that Xiangyang sent you. You don't need to wait in line. She specializes in this kind of problem, so you can go without worry."
Lan Wei took the note, carefully put it into her bag, and softly replied, "Okay, thank you, Lili."
Seeing that it was getting late, Shen Li asked the housekeeper to arrange a driver to take Yao Fen and Lan Wei back.
The two were good friends and lived in the same neighborhood, so it was convenient for them to go that way.
When the car arrived at the entrance of the residential area, the two got out. Yao Fen looked at Lan Wei and said sincerely, "Weiwei, let me know when you go to the hospital, and I'll go with you."
Lan Wei looked at her, her heart warmed, and nodded: "Okay, I'll call you then."
When Lan Wei returned home, Yan Xiangcheng was already back.
He saw Lan Wei enter the room, immediately went up to take the bag from her hand, and asked with concern, "Have you had dinner? If not, I'll make you something."
Lan Wei shook her head: "I already ate at Li Li's house."
Yan Xiangcheng looked at her, his expression hesitant. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke, "Weiwei, there's something I'd like to discuss with you."
"What is it?" Lan Wei asked casually as she changed her shoes.
Yan Xiangcheng walked to her side and slowly said, "It's like this, didn't we say before that we wanted to adopt a child? My mother said that since we're going to adopt anyway, why not adopt a child from a relative's family? It would be like strengthening family ties."
Lan Wei paused in changing her shoes, then looked up at him abruptly, her eyes filled with disbelief: "A relative's son? How old is he?"
"He's eight years old," Yan Xiangcheng said in a low voice, avoiding her gaze. "My mom said that the child is already so big, sensible and easy to take care of, so we don't need to spend too much energy taking care of him. He'll be an adult in a few years."
Lan Wei's face instantly darkened, and she stared intently at Yan Xiangcheng: "Is this your idea, or your mother's?"
