Chapter 384 Lili, have you forgiven me?
Chapter 384 Lili, have you forgiven me?
Lu Sheng reached out and gently grasped Shen Li's hand, the warmth of his palm steadily transferring to her.
"Lili, don't cry... I'm your older brother." His voice was still hoarse from just waking up, but it was full of comfort.
Upon hearing that it was him, Shen Li's tense shoulders suddenly relaxed. Tears still clung to her cheeks, and her voice choked with emotion yet filled with relief: "Don't cry... I won't cry. It's good that Big Brother is awake."
Lu Sheng looked up and gently wiped away the tear stains from the corners of her eyes with his fingertips. His fingertips brushed against her slightly cool skin, his movements delicate and gentle.
He turned to look at the hospital bed beside him, his tone turning somber: "He's still not awake?"
Shen Li nodded, the light in her eyes dimming: "Yes, she hasn't woken up yet."
Lu Sheng tried to sit up, his chest rising and falling slightly, clearly still feeling weak from just waking up.
Shen Li quickly reached out to support his arm, carefully helping him half-up, and placed a soft pillow behind his back: "Big brother, take it easy."
"Are you hungry? I'll go make you something to eat." She lowered her eyes, her tone full of concern.
Lu Sheng gave a soft "Mmm" and nodded in response, "Okay."
Shen Li carefully tucked the blanket around him again before turning around and quickly leaving the room.
Lu Sheng's gaze returned to Ming Xiangyang, who was sleeping beside him. His eyes were complex and hard to decipher, showing worry as well as a tangled mess that was hard to explain.
Less than half an hour later, Shen Li returned with a steaming bowl of meat porridge, the rim of the porcelain bowl still shrouded in a thin layer of steam.
"Big brother, have something to eat first. You haven't eaten for the past few days, so you can't eat anything too greasy. The porridge is soft and easy to digest." She handed the bowl to Lu Sheng, her tone gentle.
"Okay." Lu Sheng took the bowl, his fingertips touching the warm bowl, the warmth spreading from his fingertips into his heart.
When her older brother woke up, Shen Li felt a weight lifted from her shoulders, but when she looked at Ming Xiangyang, her brows furrowed again—her worry hadn't lessened at all.
After Lu Sheng finished eating the porridge and felt a little better, he thought about getting out of bed and walking around.
The long period of bed rest had made his limbs somewhat stiff, and his bodily functions were still slowly recovering, with each movement feeling somewhat sluggish.
Shen Li supported him closely, pacing slowly around the room, her steps deliberate, as if afraid of tiring him out.
Fortunately, Lu Sheng was in good health to begin with, and after just one day of rest, his spirits and complexion had mostly recovered, and he was much more agile.
But Mingxiangyang remained soundly asleep.
Shen Li's heart was in her throat again. She stayed by Ming Xiangyang's bedside all day, staring at him intently, as if trying to wake him up.
Seeing this, Lu Sheng returned to his own courtyard next door, not wanting to bother her any further.
In the days that followed, Shen Li went to the neighbor's house more and more frequently, once in the morning, once at noon, and once in the evening, more regularly than eating, without fail.
Days passed, and two more days went by in the blink of an eye, but Ming Xiangyang still showed no signs of waking up.
That day, as Uncle Hu was taking Ming Xiangyang's pulse, Shen Li clutched the hem of her clothes, her voice filled with barely concealed panic: "Uncle Hu, is there really no other way? He's just sleeping like this, won't... won't it be even more dangerous?"
Uncle Hu frowned deeply, shaking his head with a grave expression: "We've exhausted all methods. If he doesn't wake up soon, he'll truly become a living dead... Besides, the young master doesn't seem to have much of a will to live."
The words "living dead" struck Shen Li's heart like a hammer blow. She shuddered, her face turned deathly pale, and her fingertips went cold—she was truly terrified.
Without the will to live, even if the body can hold on, the soul cannot be retained... How long can a living dead endure?
She bent down, her face pale and haggard, looking at Ming Xiangyang's bloodless face, her eyes bloodshot.
Looking at her like this, Uncle Hu sighed and added softly, "But Comrade Shen, you can talk to the young master more. Perhaps the external stimulation can pull him out of his confusion."
Shen Li was genuinely terrified.
She quickly grasped Ming Xiangyang's slightly cool hand, pressing her palm against the back of his hand, her voice choked with sobs: "Ming Xiangyang, please wake up? I've let go of what happened before, I don't blame you anymore, please wake up..."
Seeing this, Uncle Hu quietly withdrew, leaving the two of them alone.
The tears that had been suppressed for so long finally burst forth, one after another falling onto the back of Ming Xiangyang's hand, the warm water droplets sliding down his skin.
"Didn't you say you wanted to grow old with me? We don't need to wait for the next life, we can do it in this life, as long as you wake up, okay?" Her voice was full of pleading, trembling with sobs.
But the person on the bed remained unresponsive. Shen Li's heart sank deeper and deeper, and her voice carried a hint of despair: "Are you also disappointed in me? Is that why you won't talk to me no matter what I say..."
She sniffed, both angry and anxious, her words laced with a hint of insincerity as she accused, "You're such a heartless man! The child is so young, and you just abandon him. You have no sense of responsibility whatsoever..."
"If you dare leave like this, I'll make you pay when I get to the underworld!"
"You're such an irresponsible scumbag... If you dare leave, I won't let Lele visit your grave, and I won't burn paper money for you every year. I'll make you a poor ghost down there, lonely for the rest of your life!"
As she finished cursing, her voice grew softer and softer, her breath died down, and all that remained was a feeling of utter helplessness.
She slowly calmed down, gently stroking Ming Xiangyang's hand with her fingertips, her voice soft yet tinged with lingering fear: "Are you missing your parents? Don't go looking for them, okay? They've been gone for so many years, maybe they've already been reincarnated, you won't be able to find them..."
Suddenly, a faint touch came from my face, carrying a hint of cautious warmth.
Shen Li suddenly looked up, her eyes red-rimmed, and met the slightly raised hand in mid-air—Ming Xiangyang's other hand, which was struggling to wipe away the tears on her face.
"Don't cry..." His voice was so faint it was like a mosquito's hum, yet it clearly reached Shen Li's ears.
Overwhelmed with pent-up emotions, Shen Li collapsed onto the bedside, sobbing uncontrollably with a mixture of heart-wrenching grief and overwhelming joy at having found what she had lost: "You finally decided to wake up... I was so scared, I was so afraid you would just leave like this..."
Ming Xiangyang blinked, his vision still a little blurry, but he looked at her persistently and whispered in defense, "I'm not a scumbag."
Shen Li was amused by his words and burst into laughter through her tears. Tears still clung to her face, but the corners of her mouth turned up: "If you don't wake up soon, you'll be a real scumbag."
Looking at her tear-streaked face, Ming Xiangyang's eyes were full of tenderness as he softly asked, "Lili, have you forgiven me?"
Shen Li nodded with relief and said, "I forgive you. Who told you to be so rich? It would be a waste not to take you in."
Upon hearing this, Ming Xiangyang couldn't help but chuckle softly, the gloom in his eyes vanishing completely.
"What are you laughing at? Don't you think I'm shallow and vain?" Shen Li asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ming Xiangyang gently shook his head, his voice so gentle it could melt your heart: "Luckily, you like money, and I happen to have some."
