Chapter 354 Big Brother, You're So Kind
Chapter 354 Big Brother, You're So Kind
Shen Li woke up naturally after a good night's sleep, and when she opened her eyes, there was no one by her bedside.
Lu Zhou used to love sleeping in with her, but Lu Cheng told him a few times that he was a father now and should spend more time on his child and not always leave him in the care of others. So Lu Zhou gradually changed his habit of sleeping in and started getting up early every day.
After she finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, she immediately saw Lu Sheng sitting at the dining table, with a box of exquisitely packaged pastries on the table.
"Wow! It's my favorite pastry shop!" Shen Li's eyes lit up, and she quickly walked over, her tone full of surprise. "You went out of your way to buy it so early?"
Lu Sheng nodded, a gentle smile in his eyes: "Yes, I know you like to eat it."
Shen Li leaned over, cupped his face, and kissed him, her voice soft and sweet: "Big brother, you're so good to me."
Lu Sheng looked down at her, a smile playing on his lips, his tone a tentative, indulgent one: "So, does Lili love me even more now?"
"Of course!" Shen Li nodded without hesitation, her eyes sparkling. "I love you a little more every day than I did yesterday."
As she spoke, she eagerly opened the pastry box, picked up a small piece with her fork, and held it to his mouth, saying, "Big brother, you eat first."
Lu Sheng's smile deepened, and he obediently opened his mouth to eat it. The sweet aroma spread on his tongue, and his heart felt warm.
Lu Sheng looked at his reflection in Shen Li's eyes and felt a tightness in his heart.
If she knew his true identity, would he still be able to possess her so easily, with such loving eyes?
The longer they spent together, the more deeply this warmth seeped into his bones, making him increasingly reluctant to let go.
The two walked together toward the front yard.
In the past, when people in the manor had nothing to do, they liked to stay in their own courtyards and enjoy their own leisure. But ever since a child was born into the manor, Song Zhaodi and the others always brought the child to the front yard.
Over time, whenever they had free time, everyone would gather in the main hall of the front yard, teasing and laughing with the children.
This bustling scene left Shen Li with few opportunities to take care of the child alone.
A breeze swept across the eaves, bringing a touch of coolness.
Lu Sheng reached out and carefully warmed Shen Li's scarf, his fingertips casually brushing against her chin: "Don't get cold."
"Okay." Shen Li obediently replied, but her gaze fell on Lu Sheng's bare neck.
He always treated her with great care, but he always forgot to take care of himself.
A thought suddenly popped into her mind—scarves can be bought anywhere in the market, but hand-knitted ones can hold a different kind of sentiment.
People tend to stay home less in winter, which is quite relaxing.
Although she didn't know how to knit scarves, Lu's mother was skilled at those tasks.
Having made up his mind, Shen Li secretly resolved to learn.
In the afternoon, the stove in the main hall was burning brightly. Shen Li held a ball of soft wool yarn and approached Lu's mother to ask for advice.
Lu Sheng and Lu Zhou sat to the side, watching her eyes light up with eager anticipation, filled with curiosity.
"Sister Li, what are you knitting?" Lu Zhou leaned forward and asked, staring at the wool yarn.
Shen Li pulled the ball of yarn closer to her chest, a sly glint in her eyes: "I'm not telling you."
Lu's mother was gentle and very patient in teaching him, but the knitting needles were so thin that Shen Lichu could never hold them steady.
"Hiss—" The fine needle pricked the fingertip again, leaving a red mark.
Lu Sheng immediately stood up and strode over, grabbing her hand tightly. His brows furrowed, and his voice was filled with urgency: "How are you? Does it hurt?"
Shen Li gently shook her head, her fingertips still stinging slightly, but she smiled and reassured him, "It's okay, I'm just not skilled enough yet, I keep pricking my fingers."
"What exactly are you knitting?" Lu Sheng stared at the ball of wool yarn, his tone filled with curiosity.
"I'm not telling you, it's a secret."
Shen Li turned her face away and saw that the two of them were still staring at her intently. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she pushed them toward the children. "Oh dear, go look at the children. Don't keep staring at me. I can't knit properly."
Knitting a scarf normally doesn't take much time, but Shen Li chose fine wool yarn, which made it softer and warmer, so the process was naturally slower.
It took her two whole days to finish knitting this first scarf.
Unfolding the scarf in my hand, the stitches, though not fine and even, are still neat and tidy.
Shen Li compared the lengths, considering Lu Sheng's height, and nodded in satisfaction—it was just right.
She secretly planned to knit it for her eldest brother Lu Sheng first, and then for her second brother and Lu Zhou in turn, so that the order of seniority would be appropriate.
Once she's finished with all this, she needs to go see Ming Xiangyang. Counting the days, it's been three days since she last visited him.
Just then, Lu Sheng pushed open the door and walked in.
"Big brother, timing is everything. Come and give it a try." Shen Li smiled and waved to him, her eyes full of anticipation.
Lu Sheng's gaze fell on the fabric in her hands, a gentle smile spreading across his eyes as he asked in a doting tone, "Finished?"
"Okay, lower your head."
Although Lu Sheng did not understand her intention, he still obediently bent down.
The next second, my neck was enveloped in something soft, and warmth spread from my skin to my heart.
He looked up and saw Shen Li standing on tiptoe, carefully tying his scarf, her fingertips occasionally brushing against his neck, leaving a slightly cool touch.
"This is... a scarf knitted for me?" Lu Sheng's lips curled up uncontrollably, his eyes filled with surprise and emotion.
Shen Li nodded, her voice tinged with shyness: "This is the first one I've ever knitted, the stitches aren't very good, please don't mind."
Lu Sheng reached out and pulled her into a tight embrace, resting his chin on the top of her head. His voice was so gentle it could melt your heart: "How could I dislike it? You put so much thought into knitting this for me, I'm overjoyed."
"I'm glad you like it." Shen Li nestled in his arms, listening to his steady heartbeat, filled with joy.
Just then, the phone in the bedroom suddenly rang urgently.
Normally, Shen Li would answer the phone. She smiled, broke free from Lu Sheng's embrace, and quickly walked over to answer it.
But when she heard the voice on the other end of the phone, the smile on her face froze instantly, then faded away little by little, replaced by extreme solemnity.
With a "thud," the phone slipped from her limp fingers and landed softly on the floor.
Tears welled up unexpectedly and rolled down her cheeks.
Lu Sheng's heart tightened, and he immediately stepped forward to support her swaying body: "Lili, what's wrong? What happened?"
Shen Li looked up at him, her voice choked with sobs and trembling with disbelief: "How...how could this be? Big brother, Ming Xiangyang...he's gone."
As soon as she finished speaking, she could no longer hold back and burst into tears, "How could this happen? I haven't seen him for only three days, he was perfectly fine just a few days ago..."
She staggered and tried to run outside, muttering repeatedly, "No, I have to go see him..."
Lu Sheng closed his eyes, feeling annoyed that he hadn't noticed anything amiss sooner, but he quickly caught up with her and grabbed her wrist tightly: "Don't rush, wait for me by the car, I'll go get the keys."
"Okay." Shen Li replied listlessly, tears blurring her vision.
