Chapter 410 The Final Tribulation
Chapter 410 The Final Tribulation
Chapter 410 The Final Tribulation
The two carefully approached the rift of misfortune and, braving the heat, walked inside.
They didn't see anyone from Mordor along the way, which relieved them both.
The rift of misfortune was dark and hot, filled with suffocating darkness and extremely high temperatures that were unbearable.
Frodo and Sam quickly took out a bottle of fire-retardant potion from their personal pouches and took it, only then did they feel a little better.
Even the light of Eyarendil that they used to illuminate the area turned pale and cold, unable to emit any light.
A bright red light occasionally shot out from the crack, sometimes leaping up and sometimes disappearing into the darkness.
Meanwhile, a constant buzzing noise came from deep below, as if a huge machine was at work.
Scorching magma and flames surged beneath the fissures, their light becoming the only source of light here.
Upon reaching the finish line, Frodo and Sam were both excited and thrilled.
"Great! We've finally made it here!" Sam's tired face was beaming with joy. He urged, "Frodo, quickly take out the ring and throw it straight into the lava. Our mission will be a success!"
"Hmm!" Frodo also showed a weak smile. He felt the pressure lessen by half as he was finally about to complete the mission.
But just as Frodo was about to take the Ring out of his pouch, he felt a chill all around him, as if he had been instantly transported from a blazing furnace to a snowy winter landscape.
His body tensed instantly, and he immediately drew his dagger and turned around warily.
Then a black-robed shadow appeared behind Sam, its eyes glowing with an evil red light, like blinding flames in the darkness.
That was a Ringwraith!
One of the Ringwraiths' black hands was gripping Sam's shoulder, while the other held the Mogul Blade against Sam's neck, holding him hostage. Before Frodo could even worry about his companion Sam, a chilling aura came from behind him.
Frodo felt a chill run down his spine and quickly turned around, swinging his dagger to stab behind him.
With a clang, the thorn sword was struck by a tremendous force and fell from his hand to the ground.
Then Frodo was grabbed by the neck and lifted up by a cold, dark hand.
That's another Ringwraith!
The Ringwraith, its eyes glowing with an evil red light, stared coldly at the hobbit in its hands, and uttered a hoarse voice: "Halfling, where is the One Ring? Hand it over!"
Frodo felt as if a cold, steel hand was gripping his neck, and no matter how much he struggled, he couldn't break free.
The powerful aura and terrifying halo emanating from the Ringwraith made him feel suffocated, and fear rose in his heart for no reason.
He fought off his fear with all his might, trying to remain calm. His eyes flickered, and he answered in a strained voice, "Yes—"
"I—on my—body—as long as you—let—us—go—I—can—give—it to you!"
"Frodo, don't hand him over!" Sam shouted, and then the Ringwraith who had taken him captive crushed one of his shoulders with its sharp claws, digging deep into his flesh.
Sam cried out in pain, clutching his bleeding shoulder, trembling as he knelt on one knee, opening his mouth as if to say something to Frodo, but no sound came out.
"Hand over the One Ring! Or you and your companions will die!" the Ringwraith threatened again.
Seeing Sam's pained expression, Frodo was very distressed and quickly agreed, "I'm willing to give up the Ring, as long as you don't harm my companions!"
As he spoke, he reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a spatial bag.
"The One Ring is inside, here you go!" Frodo was about to hand the pouch to the Ringwraith when it was suddenly thrown to his side.
This sudden turn of events caught the Ringwraith off guard, and it instinctively looked toward the thrown spatial bag.
But this gave Frodo an opportunity; he instantly pulled a dagger from another pocket and plunged it into the Ringwraith's head.
That dagger was one of the four daggers that Duy had given to the four hobbits, and it possessed the power to subdue the Ringwraiths.
The Ringwraith, with a dagger plunged into his head, let out a painful scream and involuntarily loosened his grip on Frodo, causing him to fall to the ground.
Then the Ringwraith's body rapidly twisted and then disintegrated and disappeared.
Meanwhile, Sam, enduring the pain, took advantage of the fact that Frodo was distracting the Ringwraith who was holding him hostage, drew his dagger, and plunged it into the Ringwraith's chest from behind.
The Ringwraiths were caught off guard and never expected that such weak halflings would fight back, especially since they had weapons capable of destroying them.
So the last remaining Ringwraith followed suit and was destroyed.
With the two Ringwraiths destroyed, Frodo and Sam both breathed a sigh of relief, exhausted.
Frodo rushed to Sam's side, looking at the wound on his shoulder: "Sam, how are you?"
Sam was deathly pale, but he still managed to shake his head: "Never mind me, Frodo, throw the Ring down and destroy it!"
Frodo knew the gravity of the situation. Seeing that Sam was not fatally injured, he quickly pulled out another pouch from the inner pocket of his jacket.
It turned out that he had two storage bags on him, one for storing the magic ring and the other for storing food, water, and other items.
The pouch that Frodo just threw out to attract the Ringwraiths' attention was one of the pouches he used to store food.
Frodo took the mithril box from his pouch, opened it, and the basilisk venom inside had long since dried, revealing the One Ring.
The moment the box was opened, the Ring's spiritual power and allure reached their peak.
Affected by this force, Frodo appeared somewhat dazed, his eyes filled with a mixture of infatuation and struggle.
Seeing Frodo's condition, Sam immediately became anxious and worried, calling out, "Frodo! Frodo! Are you alright?"
Frodo, still in a daze, was awakened by Sam's voice. Coming to his senses, he quickly and warily looked at the ring in his hand, then at his worried companion, and shook his head reassuringly: "Don't worry about me, Sam, I won't be tempted. I'll destroy it!"
He then gripped the Ring tightly, stood up again, and walked toward the edge of the rift.
As the two Ringwraiths were destroyed, the Eye of Sauron on Baradur Tower instantly locked its gaze on the Doom Rift. However, Sauron's true form was still in the west, and the Eye of Sauron was powerless to stop it. Filled with terror, it commanded all the dark creatures around Mount Doom to rush to the Doom Rift at all costs to prevent the Ring from being destroyed.
In the West, Sauron, besieged by Duy, Gandalf, and others, became even more frenzied, recklessly burning his own power at any cost, all to rush back to Mordor and prevent the One Ring from being destroyed.
Inside the Doomsday Volcano, tens of thousands of densely packed dark creatures outside the mountain surged madly toward the crater.
Frodo had reached the edge of the rift. He looked down at the rolling lava and subterranean fire below, then at the One Ring in his hand, which was radiating a crazy spiritual temptation. His eyes showed struggle, greed, and hesitation.
But in the end, his gaze hardened, and he opened his palm and gently turned it over.
The ring in her palm fell off her hand and landed directly in the lava below.
