Chapter 390 Competition
Upon hearing Aragorn's words, the Ghost King, who was about to attack, suddenly stopped.
"Duir? You came on Duir's behalf?"
As he spoke, he instantly appeared in front of Aragorn, his empty skull eyes staring intently at him, the green flames within flickering with an eerie light.
"You say you're a descendant of Isildur?!"
This sudden movement startled Aragorn, who instinctively raised his sword to shield himself, his face full of vigilance.
The Ghost King, however, paid no heed to Aragorn's wariness. He scrutinized Aragorn carefully, his hoarse, cold voice tinged with excitement: "Not bad, indeed a descendant of Isildur, bearing some of his appearance and bearing."
Then the light fell on the sword again, and the green flames burning in his eyes brightened a bit: "This is the Holy Sword of Nasir?"
Wasn't it already broken?
"The sword Narsil has been reforged and is now called Anduriel (Flame of the West)," Aragorn replied affirmatively.
The Ghost King was overjoyed. The sword Narsil was the rightful symbol of the Gondor throne, and Aragorn, possessing it, was undoubtedly a direct descendant of Isildur.
Their hope for complete liberation has finally arrived!
It seems that the wizard Duir did not break his promise and found them a way out.
Although the Ghost King was inwardly ecstatic, his outward appearance remained largely unchanged, and his voice was cold and hoarse: "Aragorn, descendant of Isildur, that wizard Duir should have already told you."
"Speak, state your request. If you promise to swear before the Black Stone of Ereh that you will release us after the deed is done, we will agree to serve you once."
Aragorn did not hesitate and nodded: "I agree. Gondor is now under attack by the army of Mordor. If you send troops to help us relieve Gondor's crisis and fulfill the oath you made to your ancestor Isildur, you will be freed and allowed to sleep forever."
"It's a deal!"
Not long after Aragorn left, the army of Mordor launched another siege of Gondor.
Outside Gondor, incredibly strong trolls dragged massive siege engines toward the city walls, while countless catapults continuously hurled boulders at the royal city, smashing holes in the walls and killing some unfortunate Gondor warriors.
-
But most of the soldiers remained steadfast on the city walls, retaliating with catapults to destroy the siege equipment or catapults on the other side.
Or they could keep shooting arrows, killing the Mordor soldiers who approached from outside the city.
For a moment, screams and wails filled the air.
Regent Denesse II remained in the palace, stabilizing the morale of the military and the people in the city.
Although he did not have high hopes for Gondor's victory and even doubted Aragorn's journey to the Ghostlands for aid, perhaps because both of his sons were still alive, Denethor II did not descend into the madness and despair that was expected in the original timeline.
Instead, they decided to fight to the very last moment, vowing to live and die with Gondor.
Faramir, having recovered from his injuries, once again led the wizard commando team and other Gondor soldiers out of the city to fight the Mordor army.
Legolas and Gimli also chose to join Faramir's team.
The two armies clashed again on the plain outside the city gates.
"Hey, pointy-eared one, let's see who kills more!" The dwarf Gimli swung his long axe, severing the legs of a powerful orc, and shouted at Legolas.
Legolas, his competitive spirit ignited, replied, "Yes!"
Upon hearing this, Gimli grinned triumphantly and chopped off the head of the struggling orc with an axe.
"one!"
Legolas refused to give up, nimbly dodging an arrow that was shot at him, and then drew his dagger and threw it in the direction from which the arrow had come.
With a scream, a powerful orc was struck in the eye by a dagger and collapsed.
"Me too."
Seeing this, Gimli immediately brandished his long axe and charged towards the group of orcs opposite him: "You orc bastards, your grandpa Gimli is here to pamper you!"
Gimli was less than half the height of a Beastman, but he was a formidable fighter with quick reflexes and speed. He would target the Beastman's lower body, chopping at their legs with his axe before beheading them after they fell to the ground.
"Two! Three! Four—" Gimli shouted as he slashed at the enemies.
Legolas was equally efficient, wielding two short daggers with an elegant and graceful combat style, relentlessly reaping the lives of his enemies.
Just then, Legolas saw a dragon charging wildly toward his army.
If it were allowed to enter and wreak havoc among the Gondorian army, it would inevitably plunge the army into chaos, resulting in the deaths of countless soldiers.
Seeing this, Legolas abandoned his competition with Gimli, drew his longbow from his back, and aimed it at the dragon that was charging toward them from afar.
The magic within his body condensed into a beam of light through the longbow, instantly shooting towards the demonic dragon.
The light arrow traveled at a speed comparable to the speed of light, instantly striking one of the dragon's eyes. With a violent explosion, the dragon's eye, along with one side of its head, was blown to pieces.
The dragon did not die, but the intense pain caused it to let out a deafening roar of agony. Its previously madly running steps came to a halt, and it struggled and rolled frantically.
The Mordor soldiers around them were caught in the rage of the dragon, either crushed into mincemeat or swept away by its tail.
But before the dragon could go berserk for long, Legolas, with his nimble reach, dodged the dragon's tail attack, jumped onto the dragon's body, and drew his elven longsword, plunging it deep into the dragon's head.
The dragon froze instantly, then died completely.
Seeing that Legolas had actually killed a dragon, and that Gimli was currently killing his 34th enemy, he was immediately taken aback, and then shouted, "Hey pointy-eared one, even though you're quite big, you can only count as one!"
Legolas didn't bother with Gimli. Standing atop the Mordor head, he drew his longbow and began firing arrows at the surrounding Mordor soldiers.
He moved with incredible speed, firing off beams of light that killed the surrounding enemies.
「21个、22个、23个————34个、35个!」
Then he drew his bow again, and three arrows of light appeared on the bowstring at the same time, hitting all three orcs when they were fired.
Seeing Legolas's actions, Gimli stared in disbelief, then, enraged, chased after a powerful orc, yelling, "Pointy-eared bastard! This isn't fair! You have an artifact, how are you supposed to compete?!"
But at this moment, Legolas' attention was no longer on Gimli's words. He stared intently at the Ringwraiths riding the dragon in the distance, his expression very solemn.
The next second, he drew his longbow again, aimed at the Ringwraith, and fired a beam of light with the strongest magic.
The arrow of light shone brightly, piercing the air and instantly shooting towards the Ringwraith.
The arrow of light arrived in the blink of an eye, but just as it was about to strike the Ringwraith, it was blocked by the Ringwraith's magic hammer.
With the violent explosion, the dragon beneath the Ringwraith was affected and wounded, but the Ringwraith was unharmed.
Legolas did not give up and continued to fire arrows toward the Ringwraiths, accompanied by a series of violent explosions.
But it could never harm the Ringwraiths.
The Ringwraith, its eyes burning with crimson fire, stared at Legolas and uttered a mocking tone: "Elf, your magic has no effect on me!" (in black language)
Immediately, the Ringwraiths, controlling the berserk dragon, charged toward Legolas.
Suddenly, a sound like the shattering of an apparition rang out.
A figure suddenly appeared on the dragon's body, and Aragorn raised his sword and slashed at the Ringwraiths.
The Ringwraith swiftly turned and blocked the longsword with his mace, about to retaliate, but upon seeing Aragorn's longsword, his red eyes narrowed instantly, "Narsil the Holy Sword!!!"
Accompanied by an incredulous, piercing shriek, the Ringwraiths retreated in terror, transforming into black mist.
