Chapter 369 Farewell
At the lively birthday party, the hobbits looked at Duy and Gandalf with a mixture of restraint and curiosity.
Dui was the center of attention, with everyone secretly peering at him with what they thought were discreet eyes.
Duy and Gandalf, both tall, stood out among the hobbits, as if they had entered a land of little people.
Because Hogwarts and the Shire bordered each other, and because the Shire had established trade relations with Brie and Hogsmeade, these hobbits who rarely ventured out had all heard of the great name of the Lord of Hogwarts.
Moreover, sixty years had passed since Duy first came to the Shire, and many of the hobbits who had seen him back then were long gone.
More importantly, it is rumored that Bilbo's ability to remain unchanged for decades is due to the efforts of this wizard lord.
Therefore, everyone is very curious about this wizard lord who has many legends.
As the lively banquet reached its climax, Bilbo stood up.
The music at the banquet suddenly stopped, and everyone was curious about what he would say.
Bilbo looked around at all his neighbors, took a deep breath, and then said loudly, “My friends, I know less than half of you as I wish, and I do not love less than half of you as you deserve.”
Today is my 111th birthday, and also my nephew Frodo's 33rd birthday. In this joyous occasion, I regret to announce—it all comes to an end.
I'm leaving. I'm leaving the Shire, and I'm leaving now! As for my possessions and Bag End, they shall be inherited by my nephew Frodo, and all of you are here to witness—”
"Finally, goodbye!" Frodo said, then slipped on a gold ring and vanished instantly.
The hobbits present gasped in surprise, both caught off guard by Bilbo's announcement and shocked by his sudden disappearance.
Only Duy and Gandalf wore calm smiles, their gazes following Bilbo as he disappeared into the shadows.
Clearly, Bilbo's invisibility did not fool the two.
At the noisy banquet, Dui, along with Elses and Elros, and Gandalf, also got up and left the venue.
Although they were not invisible, they went unnoticed and were completely ignored.
It wasn't until they were far away that Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin suddenly remembered and hurriedly looked for Dui and the others, but they couldn't remember when they had left.
On the path back to Bag End, Duy, Gandalf, Elses, and Elros had just reached an oak tree when they suddenly stopped.
Dui and Gandalf both looked down at the oak tree and smiled.
Gandalf smiled and asked, "Bilbo, were you waiting for us here?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Bilbo took off his ring and revealed himself, looking somewhat helpless.
"You can't hide anything from you!"
Dui smiled upon hearing this and said, "I crafted this ring, so naturally it can't be hidden from me. As for Gandalf, I don't think there's any invisibility magic that can fool his eyes."
This gold ring, one of the gifts Duy gave to Bilbo, is a gold-plated ring that combines alchemy and ring making.
Wearing it not only grants invisibility but also enhances hobbit traits, amplifying stealth abilities.
Unless you encounter beings like Sauron, Galadriel, or Gandalf, they won't be able to see through it; otherwise, ordinary people simply won't be able to detect it.
It can be considered as a gift from Dui to save Bilbo's life and escape after he lost the Ring.
In response to Duy's praise, Gandalf smiled modestly and said, "Oh, Duy, your praise is far too much. Even Lady Galadriel praises the craftsmanship of your ring. I was able to spot Bilbo only because of your reminder; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so easy to notice him."
Dui and Gandalf then brought the topic back to Bilbo.
"Bilbo, why are you in such a hurry to leave? I see that Frodo doesn't seem to be prepared. Don't you plan to stay here a little longer?" Dui asked, looking at Bilbo.
Bilbo shook his head. "No, I've been here for almost my whole life. Now that I've decided to leave, I can't hesitate. Otherwise, if I stay any longer, I might not have the courage to leave!"
Besides, Frodo has grown up now, and I feel very reassured leaving Bag End to him.
Seeing that Bilbo had made up his mind, Dui and Gandalf did not try to persuade him any further.
"In that case, Bilbo, why don't you come with us to Hogwarts tonight? If you get tired of it there, you can always go to the Valley of the Dead later. Besides, the school is planning to hold the House Championship this year, which will be very exciting. You can't miss it."
"
Upon hearing Dui's words, Bilbo was immediately intrigued and no longer hesitated. "Then I'll have to trouble you with things from now on!"
"What trouble? We're friends! And we're glad you could come!"
After deciding on their destination, the group returned to Bag End, packed their belongings briefly, and then returned to Hogwarts through the fireplace.
Refusing Dui's help, Bilbo began packing his belongings on his own.
At that moment, the door to Bag End was suddenly opened, and Frodo walked in, slightly out of breath.
Frodo looked at Bilbo, who was packing his bags, with deep reluctance.
"Uncle Bilbo, are you really leaving?"
Bilbo stopped what he was doing, looked at his nephew, and gently patted him on the shoulder.
"Frodo, you've grown up. I'm at ease entrusting the family to you! Oh, and I have another inheritance to give you. Remember not to tell anyone else, or it will easily attract greedy people."
He then handed the mithril armor and a spatial bag to Frodo.
When Frodo heard that the value of the mithril armor was enough to buy the entire Shire, he gasped.
When they saw the gold mine and jewelry inside the space bag, they were even more shocked.
He always knew that Uncle Bilbo was rich, but he didn't expect him to be this rich!
I doubt that the combined wealth of all the hobbits in the Shire could match that of Uncle Bilbo.
Bilbo was quite proud of this, saying, "This is a one-fourteenth share of the dragon's treasure that I received when I, Duir, Gandalf, and the dwarves set out for Lonely Mountain. All these years of squandering are just a tiny fraction of it."
"This—this is too much! Uncle Bilbo, since you can take this wealth with you, then take it with you. After all, you'll need it for expenses on the road," Frodo suggested. Although he was surprised by the enormous amount of wealth, there was no greed in his eyes.
Bilbo looked at Frodo with eyes full of satisfaction, shaking his head with a smile: "Don't worry about me, I've brought enough money; any more would be a burden. The rest of this wealth is yours to do as you please, whether you squander it or do something else. You could squander it for several lifetimes and still not spend it all!"
After a conversation between the uncle and nephew, Bilbo continued packing his luggage, while Frodo helped him with reluctance.
Dui and Gandalf sat quietly to the side, not disturbing the two.
