Chapter 166 Flame Demon
Chapter 166 Flame Demon
Chapter 166 Flame Demon
The rising temperature in the surrounding area can only mean that the Balrog is coming.
Duy and Gandalf both knew how terrifying the Balrog's power was, so they were unwilling to waste too much energy on Orcs, lest they be outmatched when facing the Balrog.
"Don't linger here with Ocdo. Let's cross the Bridge of Durin and get to the First Hall!" Gandalf shouted to the dwarves.
"These Orks are being controlled by an ancient and powerful evil being; that thing is about to emerge!"
Upon hearing Gandalf's words, Balin did not hesitate at all and immediately ordered the dwarf warriors to break through to the east with all their might.
The dwarves were responsible for breaking through the enemy lines ahead, while Dui and Gandalf were responsible for covering the rear.
The group moved forward quickly, not daring to stop for even a moment.
As the surrounding temperature rose, as if summer had arrived in an instant, the dwarves, wearing armor, were sweating profusely.
This means that the Balrog is getting closer and closer to them.
Everyone was on high alert and quickly headed towards the Dulin Bridge.
The Oc never gave up the pursuit, and even after sensing the change in the surrounding temperature, they became even more excited and fearful, as if they had been given a stimulant.
The Orcs of Moria are servants of the Balrog. The Orcs worship the Balrog as a god, accept his rule, and act as his henchmen, gathering intelligence and guarding his territory.
The Orc King Azog, whom Dui once killed, was the leader of the Moria Orcs and served the Balrog.
So if we really want to be serious, Dui has long since formed a karmic bond with the Balrog.
Dui and Gandalf kept fighting off the Orks who were chasing them, and quickly followed the dwarves eastward.
Finally, the group arrived at the bridge to Dulin.
The Bridge of Dulin spans between the First Hall and the Second Hall, with a bottomless abyss below.
The bridge is about fifty feet long, narrow and without railings, allowing only one person to pass at a time. It is a defensive fortification built by dwarves in ancient times.
The purpose was to prevent the enemy from entering from the east gate or coming from the west gate, serving as the last line of defense.
The dwarven craftsmen who built the bridge never imagined that the enemy would not attack from the east or west, but would emerge from the abyss beneath the bridge.
The surrounding temperature was already unbearably hot. As if sensing something, Gandalf came to the bridge and looked into the abyss.
Seeing the flickering firelight below, Gandalf immediately felt a sense of impending doom.
"Hurry up and cross the bridge!"
It's not easy for more than a thousand people to cross the bridge in a short time.
In particular, the Dulin Bridge can only accommodate one line of people at a time.
Dui immediately cast a spell on the bridge: "Grow bigger quickly!"
The bridge instantly widened, becoming a wide bridge that could accommodate more than a dozen people walking side by side.
"Hurry up!"
The dwarves felt as if they had been given a chance to escape a desperate situation, and they rushed onto the bridge and ran towards the other side.
Dui and Gandalf continued to cover the rear.
Seeing the flames getting closer and closer to the abyss, and the scorching temperature around him, Duy immediately took out two bottles of potions and handed one to Gandalf.
"This is a fire-retardant potion I made in advance. It can even withstand fierce flames for a while. Drink it quickly!"
Gandalf took the somewhat cold potion and drank the whole bottle in one gulp without hesitation, his eyes immediately lighting up.
"Thank goodness you were here! This is really effective!"
Dui immediately drank the entire bottle of potion in his hand, and a wave of coldness instantly surged through his body, making him shiver involuntarily.
The effect was immediate; the previously scorching temperature around him no longer affected him.
They were given little time to prepare; by the time the last dwarf crossed the bridge, the raging fire from the abyss below had already reached the bridgehead.
A long, fiery whip shot out from the abyss, heading straight for Dui and Gandalf.
"Super strong armor protects you!" Dui's wand had long since been replaced by a staff.
He unleashed a massive magical barrier, protecting himself, Gandalf, and the dwarves behind them.
The fire whip struck the magic barrier, instantly creating ripples.
Seeing that Dui had successfully blocked the fire whip, Gandalf quickly shouted to the dwarves behind him, "Don't linger! Go to the First Hall, to the East Gate!"
Looking at the blazing fire whip and the firelight in the abyss, Balin knew that they couldn't help if they stayed, so he immediately led the dwarves away.
With no worries about the rear, Gandalf was able to focus all his efforts on fighting the great enemy alongside Dui.
The flaming whip struck without having any effect and was quickly withdrawn.
The next second, a huge and scorching orange flame shot out from the abyss and landed on the other side of the bridge.
Some of the nearby Orks, unable to dodge in time, were instantly burned to ashes by the flames.
But the other Orks paid no heed, keeping their distance from the intense heat and gazing up at the flames with a mixture of fear and reverence, as if facing a god.
Gandalf and Duy were closest to each other and had the effects of the fire-retardant potion, so the intense heat of the flames had no effect on them.
But both of them looked stern and ready to act.
Amidst the blazing flames opposite, a figure resembling a giant could be seen, its body shrouded in shifting shadows, with a raging inferno at its core.
It has a pair of burning yellow eyes, a mane that is scorching with flames and steaming, a head like a bison with two huge horns, a pair of wings made of shadows on its back, and a long tail of flames trailing behind it.
It looks just like the image of a legendary demon.
It is the Balrog, a fallen Maiar.
A powerful demon who single-handedly destroyed the Kingdom of Qazadoom and occupied the land for thousands of years.
The Balrog was like a giant furnace, igniting everything around it. Its body emitted an incredibly hot temperature, melting the stone slabs around it and making the surrounding air extremely hot.
Perhaps enraged that Gandalf and Duy were ignoring its intense heat, Balrog flared up with flames, drew a massive sword that burned with fire and emitted black smoke, and slashed at them.
The flaming sword shattered Dui's magical barrier in an instant.
"Duir, lend me your flaming sword!" Gandalf cried out hastily.
Duy immediately drew his flaming sword and threw it to Gandalf.
"I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielding the Flame of Arnor. The Dark Flame will not aid you, you Flame of Udon!"
Gandalf's voice echoed above the abyss, like a declaration or a mantra.
The flaming sword in his hand ignited with holy, blazing white flames, radiating a sacred light.
Gandalf swung his flaming sword and clashed with Balrog's fiery sword.
A powerful shockwave erupted instantly, forcing Gandalf and Balrog to stagger back several steps.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Dui raised his staff and aimed it at the Balrog, and an incredibly dazzling, deep green light shot out from the gem in the staff.
The aura of death emanating from it was far more powerful than the force it had previously unleashed.
Sensing the threat, the Balrog reacted instantly, slashing at the incoming Death Curse with its flaming greatsword.
The Death Curse and the Flaming Greatsword collided, causing a violent explosion.
A dazzling green light exploded, instantly destroying everything around it.
The Balrog was blasted away, and the greatsword in his hand shattered into countless fragments.
The immense force of the explosion forced Dui and Gandalf to retreat, then they warily watched the Balrog opposite them.
Dui was feeling heavy-hearted at that moment.
He never expected that the deadly curse, which he had been preparing for so long, would be so easily blocked by the Flame Demon, and that it would only damage one of the Flame Demon's swords.
This is a far cry from his original plan to at least severely damage the Flame Demon.
However, at this moment, he couldn't care less about his emotions; he could only concentrate all his energy on dealing with the Flame Demon's attacks.
Sure enough, the next second, the Fiery Demon's furious roar came from the other side of the broken bridge.
Then came the raging, scorching flames, which surged towards them like a tidal wave.
"The water is as clear as a spring!"
Dui activated his staff, summoning a surging spring that formed a wall of water to block the approaching flames.
It is said that water can extinguish fire, but the flames released by the Balrog were too hot, and instead continuously evaporated the water wall.
Dui could only keep summoning water to replenish the water wall and struggle to resist the onslaught of flames.
Gandalf also made his move at the same time, raising his staff and longsword, which was burning with holy white flames, high above his head and crossing them to release a dazzling shield of light.
"Go back to the shadows, servants of Morgoth!"
The light shield rapidly expanded, forcing all the surrounding demonic fire back.
The fire demon brandished its long fire whip, lashing it against the light shield. With each lash, the light shield shrank by one size.
Gandalf grunted and once again strained to open his light shield to resist the Balrog's fiery whip.
However, as a fellow Maiar, Gandalf, whose power was restricted, was ultimately no match for the full power of his fire magic.
Under the lash of the fiery whip, the light shield shrank smaller and smaller until it was finally shattered.
Gandalf staggered backward instantly, bracing himself with his staff, panting heavily.
"Flame Demon, take this!"
Upon seeing this, Dui quickly took something out of his spatial bag and threw it at the Balrog opposite him.
A leather suitcase was seen hurtling towards the Flame Demon.
The fire demon reacted quickly, swinging its fiery whip and striking the suitcase directly.
The suitcase instantly disintegrated, and the space inside could not be maintained, so it vomited out everything inside.
In an instant, a volume of water the size of a football field appeared out of thin air and landed directly on the Flame Demon.
It was like pouring water onto a red-hot iron rod, producing a constant hissing sound.
Ordinary water cannot extinguish the flames on the fire demon's body, but it will still make the fire demon feel uncomfortable.
At the same time, along with the flood, a huge statue of a watcher in the water also appeared.
The Balrog naturally recognized the Watcher in the Water as its neighbor. In fact, it could be said that they were in cahoots, both emerging from the ground, one taking over Moria and the other the lake outside Moria.
The Balrog could tell that the stone statue in front of it was the "Water Watcher" itself. Its burning eyes showed a hint of doubt, as if wondering how it had become like this.
However strange it was, the fire demon showed no mercy to anything that appeared in its way, and swung its long whip to burn it to ashes.
But suddenly it came into contact with a snake head that emerged from the mouth of the "water watcher" and met its yellow snake eyes.
It turned out that the basilisk monster Helpo had hidden inside the slightly open mouth of the "Water Watcher" and had successfully launched a sneak attack in an instant.
The basilisk monster, Helpo, glared fiercely, unleashing its most powerful, deadly eye.
The Flame Demon sensed something was wrong, but it was too late.
It felt as if its mind had been attacked, and it became momentarily dazed, its thoughts and consciousness going blank for a brief period.
The Eye of the Basilisk cannot kill the Balrog, who is a fallen Maiar, but it can affect him.
This gave Dui a chance to retaliate.
Dui gripped the staff tightly with both hands, channeling all his magic into it, and unleashed the Death Curse once more.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A dazzling green light reappeared, transforming into a green lightning bolt as thick as a water bucket, which struck the Flame Demon.
