Chapter 18 Heading to Tom's House

Chapter 18 Heading to Tom's House

Dui's eyes lit up when he saw the heartwood.

He sensed a rich magical aura emanating from the tree heart; from a wandmaker's perspective, it was simply the finest material for making wands.

Not to mention that such a long tree heart is enough to make more than a dozen magic wands.

Dui beamed and reached out to take the heartwood. His hand immediately felt a heaviness; its weight and texture were no different from gold and stone. He almost couldn't catch it. No wonder it took two people to carry it.

After thanking and seeing off the militiamen, Dui looked at the long tree heart and began to think about what to do with it.

Dui estimated that the heartwood was more than four meters long, a length that was too long to even be brought into the house, so it had to be placed in the yard for the time being.

Moreover, Dui doesn't need such a long piece of wood to make a wand.

Dui planned to first split the tree heart in half, and then cut off a small section as the raw material for the wand.

But as soon as the knife struck, there was a crisp "clang" and sparks flew everywhere. Dui felt as if he had struck a block of iron, and his hand went numb from the shock.

Only a faint mark remained on the heartwood.

"So hard?" Dui was dumbfounded. He couldn't understand how he had managed to break the old willow tree trunk in two.

With no other option, Dui had to find a professional carpenter to help him cut the heartwood with specialized tools.

The hobbit carpenters were very grateful to Dui, the hero who helped them defeat the tree people. When they heard that Dui wanted their help to saw off the heartwood, they agreed without hesitation and offered to do it for free.

Finally, after wasting more than a dozen saw teeth, the Hobbit carpenter managed to saw the heartwood in half, but he was also exhausted, sweating profusely and his arms were trembling.

"Lord Duir, this is all I can do to help. This heartwood is incredibly hard, no less so than cast iron. If you wish to further work on it, ordinary tools will be useless unless you use divine weapons," the Hobbit carpenter earnestly advised.

"I understand, thank you." Dui accepted his suggestion. Seeing the carpenter panting, he felt a little embarrassed and secretly placed the few silver coins he had left in his pocket on the table before leaving with the two pieces of tree heartwood.

Dui, who had returned to Zhuoguo's house, looked at the two pieces of tree heartwood with a worried expression. It was already so difficult just to cut the tree heartwood in half.

If it were to be made into a magic wand, it would be an even more delicate task. It would require not only cutting and carving, but also polishing the raw wood bit by bit into the ideal shape and size. Such skill cannot be accomplished with ordinary tools.

Just as Dui was struggling to figure out how to deal with Willow Heart, Rory Brandy Deer, who had overheard the story, offered a helpful suggestion when he invited Dui to Brandy Hall.

"Duyel, you might want to ask Tom Bombadil for help. You know, he's lived a very, very long time and his knowledge far surpasses that of anyone else in the world. He's always been helpful, and he might be able to help you with your problem."

Rory Brandy Deer chuckled and said, "Besides, didn't he invite you to be his guest? Isn't this a perfect opportunity?"

Upon hearing Rory's words, Dui's eyes lit up; he had almost forgotten about Tom's invitation.

Moreover, Lorry is right. An ancient and powerful being like Tom Bombadil might possess some divine weapon that could easily cut through the hard heartwood.

Although he kept Lorry's words in mind, Dui did not immediately go to visit Tom Bombadil. Instead, he stayed at the Drow family's house, recovering from the aftereffects of the magic outburst while practicing making wands out of wood.

As for Zogo Baggins, ever since that night at the banquet, he has fallen in love with Dora Brandyde and has been going out early and returning late, spending all his time happily running to the Brandy Room, practically making it his home.

In response, Du Yi, a single guy, could only wish that Zhuo Guo would win the heart of his beloved as soon as possible after complaining about how Zhuo Guo was indifferent to women.

He remembered that Dora the Brandyde was the mother of Frodo Baggins, the future protagonist of Lord of the Rings. He wondered if this time, because of him, the two of them had met earlier, and whether it would cause Frodo Baggins to be born earlier.

A month passed in the blink of an eye, and Dui had been in Bucktown for three whole months.

After consuming a lot of wood, Dui finally succeeded in carving a magic wand on this day.

The wand is 12 inches long, made of willow wood, and is flexible with unobstructed magical circuits, making it a standard wand.

Seeing his first piece of work, Dui smiled with satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment welling up inside him.

Having successfully crafted the wand, Dui didn't linger. After telling Drago Baggins and Rory Brandy Deer, he took the Tree Heart and rode his ponies south, all the way to the confluence of the Willow River, and then went upstream along the riverbank.

When passing through the valley where the old willow tree was, Dui saw the old willow tree again.

The old willow tree still stands rooted on the banks of the Willow River, with no sign of the soil being disturbed, as if it had always been there and had never left.

Only the charred bark and the remaining lower half of the trunk confirmed to Dui that it was the old willow tree that had forced him to unleash his magic.

The old willow tree had fallen into a deep sleep and did not react strongly to Dui's arrival; only a few newly sprouted green leaves indicated that it was still alive.

Dui glanced at the old willow tree, but did nothing more, and continued walking upstream along the Willow River.

Soon, a riverside path appeared in front of Dui.

Seeing the path, Dui knew he wasn't far from Tom Bombadil's house.

Sure enough, after walking along the path for another hour, Dui finally saw a low house on a distant hill.

It was already evening, and the houses in the distance had already lit up their lights. The warm orange light shone through the windows and open doors, guiding the way like a lighthouse.

Tom Bombadil's house is located on the eastern edge of the Old Forest, bordering the ancient hills behind it. The Willow River originates from the deepest canyon of the ancient hill.

The house was surrounded by neat green lawns and a garden full of various flowers. The path was paved with pebbles and led directly to Tom Bombadil's house.

Duy dismounted and came to the front of the house, where he saw Tom Bombadil standing outside the gate, having been waiting for a long time.

"Welcome! Wizard Duyle, come in quickly! My beautiful wife Goldenberry has prepared dinner for you and is just waiting for you!" Tom looked very happy and quickly went up to give Duyle a big hug.

Dui was somewhat surprised to hear Tom's words, not expecting that they knew about his arrival in advance.

Let Dui go inside first, while Tom leads the pony to the stable.

As soon as Dui entered, he saw a variety of delicious foods displayed on the table in the center of the living room. The aroma of the food filled the air, making his mouth water.

On the other side, sitting in a chair directly opposite the door, sat a beautiful woman.

She had a head of thick, shoulder-length golden hair, and wore a long, emerald-green dress adorned with shimmering silver threads like dewdrops, with a golden belt around her waist.

At the woman's feet were many ceramic basins, in which many water lilies floated.
