Chapter 31 The Substitute
Chapter 31 The Substitute
The sudden scene somewhat overturned Cheng Hao's understanding.
I've seen many people control ghosts, but this is the first time I've ever seen a person lead a ghost.
Moreover, he had a premonition that the female ghost Chu Mo was leading was extremely terrifying.
He glanced instinctively at Yan Li beside him, his eyes seeming to say, "Did you always know this guy was keeping a ghost around?"
He glanced at the other person with a stern look, but instead felt a sense of pride.
For some reason, he was happy to see others react with shock because of the ghost on Chu Mo's body.
It seems that doing so makes one feel proud.
After all, he is now Chu Mo's only partner.
"Cheng Hao, prepare the container for confinement."
Chu Mo's voice came at this moment, and he was seen holding the bride's hand with his left hand, while his right hand was strangely swaying slightly towards the lake.
The once calm lake surface was now rippling, as if something was churning in the water.
Cheng Hao didn't dare to be careless. He quickly returned to his car and retrieved the body bag.
"Captain Chu, the container is here."
Cheng Hao did not approach, but stopped about five meters away from Chu Mo.
It seemed that if one got any closer, the ghost inside one's body would have a strong desire to revive, as if it wanted to leave the body immediately.
This situation puzzled Cheng Hao so much that he even changed how he addressed Chu Mo.
Not long after.
After the ripples on the lake surface undulated a few times, a figure quickly emerged.
The figure appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the lake, with disheveled hair, and was approaching this direction.
Strangely, in Chu Mo's eyes, the ghost was not moving, but the distance between them was constantly being closed.
The supernatural power of the summoning ritual was still in effect, and a ghostly eye had already been torn open on Chu Mo's forehead.
In the ghost's eyes, the ghost wasn't without facial features, but rather it was swollen and rotten from being soaked in water.
The only distinguishable features were its general shape and the straw raincoat it was wearing.
"This ghost will come ashore soon, and I'll suppress it then. You just need to keep it locked up, right? That should be fine, right?"
Chu Mo's voice carried a sense of desolation, and Yan Li and Cheng Hao were involuntarily filled with sadness upon hearing it.
But this feeling quickly dissipated.
Cheng Hao glanced at the lake, but his next words made Chu Mo frown.
"Captain Chu, there are no ghosts on the lake. Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Cheng Hao squinted, trying to focus his gaze on the rippling lake surface, but there was nothing there.
Ok?
Chu Mo looked at Yan Li, who was standing to the side.
Yan Li also looked bewildered. "Brother Chu, well... it seems there really aren't any ghosts."
Upon hearing this, Chu Mo shifted his gaze back to the figure approaching him on the lake.
"Was it my ability to see ghosts that allowed me to see this ghost? Or does this ghost not exist in reality at all?"
Chu Mo guessed what was going on and quickly shut down his Ghost Eye.
But the ghost in the lake still exists.
This phenomenon is strange. If it exists in multiple layers of ghost realms, then one should not be able to see it after turning off one's ghost eyes.
But the result was not like that.
"Give me the body bag."
Cheng Hao was stunned for a moment, then, despite the restlessness of the evil spirit within him, he handed the item to Chu Mo.
Chu Mo took it. In his line of sight, the ghost in the straw raincoat had already reached the lake shore, less than two meters away from him.
However, due to the summoning of the spirit, the ghost temporarily lost its ability to move and could only stay near the ghost bride.
Chu Mo acted very decisively.
The moment the summoning was interrupted, the Ghost Eye Domain immediately enveloped it, and then the lake surface began to turn blood red.
The ghost's blood flowed upstream from the feet of the straw raincoat ghost, and as the body bag was put over it, the ghost was quickly dealt with.
However, under the watchful eyes of the two men, Chu Mo was merely making a gesture towards thin air.
Even the bag the other person was carrying was soft and fluffy, as if it contained a wisp of air.
Chu Mo naturally noticed the problem, and just to be on the safe side, he asked Cheng Hao, "Have you actually encountered this ghost before?"
Cheng Hao thought for a moment. "I saw this ghost when I first came into contact with this case. All things considered, it was sometime after Chen You's death, but I haven't encountered it since."
"Is that so?"
Chu Mo felt something was strange. He placed the body bag containing the straw raincoat ghost on the ground, but it didn't make a sound when it hit the ground.
He found that his vision seemed to be misaligned with that of the two men, Yan Li and his companion.
Could it be that I was really influenced?
Chu Mo couldn't help but start to have some doubts.
Just then, a rustling sound suddenly came from the reeds. The once lifeless reeds seemed to be disturbed and began to sway inexplicably.
A chilling aura enveloped the three of them.
"We heard footsteps, and it sounded like they were coming this way."
Yan Li looked towards the depths of the reeds, feeling a faint tremor in the ghost blood within his body.
This is a kind of perception that exists between vengeful ghosts.
Cheng Hao looked in the direction the other person was looking, but found nothing, though the footsteps were definitely there.
"It seems the root cause hasn't been completely resolved yet..."
His face immediately darkened. He wasn't sure if Chu Mo was putting on a mime show to fool him, or if he really had a ghost imprisoned.
But in his opinion, there was clearly nothing in the bag.
The footsteps grew closer until a rustling sound came from less than five meters away from them.
It was now completely dark.
Chu Mo's ghost eye on his forehead was still darting restlessly as he stared intently into the hazy depths of the reeds.
A small path had appeared there at some point, and on the path, a figure wearing a straw raincoat was standing there strangely.
It's the ghost in the lake.
Chu Mo glanced at the sealed body bag on the ground. The bag was intact and showed no signs of damage.
"A derivative of the supernatural?"
He noticed that Yan Li and his companion were still alert to their surroundings and had no idea that the ghost in the straw raincoat was less than five meters away.
This is no longer a problem with the eyes; it's a case of perception being deceived.
Chu Mo was certain that the ghost had affected Yan Li and Cheng Hao, preventing them from noticing its approach.
To verify this hypothesis.
He decisively reopened the body bag, but the moment the zipper was undone, all that was inside was a cold, stiff corpse.
All three of them could see the corpse and were extremely familiar with it.
This is the man with the Guan Gong tattoo, one of the two who drowned at the Zhongzhou Club.
"substitute?"
Chu Mo's expression changed. While he was thinking, the straw raincoat ghost had already arrived in front of everyone, and a foul stench of corpses emanated from the raincoat.
Cheng Hao's skin was the first to show signs of swelling and decay.
What followed was severity.
But Yan Li was protected by the ghost blood, so it had almost no effect on him.
As for Chu Mo, he remained calm and composed under the protection of the mourning clothes.
He looked at the two men again, and after confirming that they couldn't detect the ghost, he stopped making any further moves.
Instead, they unfolded the Ghost Realm, intending to temporarily leave this eerie place.
It just seems a bit late.
The area where the ghost eye was spreading was being compressed by something, and that suddenly appearing path had somehow invaded the ghost realm.
And no matter where the ghost realm extends, the paths still exist.
Chu Mo understood that if they didn't deal with this ghost, the three of them probably wouldn't be able to leave.
