Chapter 104: Still no-shows, this time it's the other way around.
Kane instinctively raised his wand upon seeing the Fruit Fly King, intending to give this intruder a shock with his Shadow Magic Blade, which allowed him to flourish in both the Eternal Realm and the real world.
Seeing this, Dumbledore quickly stopped Kane.
"I think it's unnecessary, Kane. That little guy is quite cute, isn't he?"
"But it will damage plants and plant weeds in the ground," Kane said, somewhat conflicted.
"Ah, I knew that big guy was your doing. No one else could have done it... But... let's ignore that big fly for now and get back to this lovely field."
"Is this the kind of weed you're talking about?" Dumbledore handed Kane the warm glass of water in his hand. Kane glanced inside and saw Forget-Me-Not, honey, and warm water—a very standard soothing tea.
He naturally drank the rest of the soothing tea in one gulp. Although it wasn't the authentic soothing tea he made himself in a crucible or cooking pot, it was still somewhat useful.
"So Kane, perhaps the weeds he sent, which you call 'weeds,' are exactly what we need," Dumbledore chuckled, taking the cup Kane offered. "And what I'm really curious about is that you consider these herbs with their magical properties to be just weeds."
Dumbledore said, plucking a forget-me-not, "Then what is truly useful to you?"
"Potatoes, watermelons, and dragon fruit?" Kane raised an eyebrow. Although he knew that his experience in the Eternal Realm didn't count in the real world, the knowledge that was almost etched into his head still made him subconsciously say something that would make Dumbledore laugh.
"The Sorting Hat really made a mistake; he should have put you in Hufflepuff." Professor Sprout looked at Kane with affection. She knew that Kane had been a wandering orphan, so she understood his answer perfectly.
"The Hats were actually going to assign me to Hufflepuff, but I wanted to stay with my friends," Kane said with an apologetic smile to Professor Sprout.
Dumbledore was certain that the forget-me-nots that suddenly sprouted from the ground were the work of the fruit fly king in the sky. Seeing Kane's reaction, it was clear that Kane was also responsible for the fruit fly king. So he stopped worrying about it and simply instructed Professor Sprout to save the forget-me-nots for seed so that he could cultivate them in a separate plot of land the following year before leaving.
Finally, after using magic to trap the fruit fly king and several smaller fruit flies in a cage, he slowly left.
"Ah, he really is quite the smooth talker," Kane remarked, watching Dumbledore, who had convinced him and Professor Sprout to plant seeds for each other the following year with just a few words, and then happily washed his hands of the matter.
"Well, that's just how the principal is," Professor Sprout said jokingly, then looked with some concern at the listless forget-me-nots in the ground.
"Kane? Since you created these herbs, are they sick?"
Kane shook his head: "He's not sick, he just seems unhappy."
Professor Sprout: "??? Unhappy???"
Kane nodded: "Yeah, to be honest, this plant is just as hard to take care of as I am. It can't handle cold, it can't handle heat, it can't handle darkness, and it can't handle a bad mood."
After he finished speaking, he slowly squatted down and gently stroked one of the forget-me-nots: "What a beautiful plant. I've always wanted a little grass as pretty as you."
Professor Sprout had been quietly watching Kane's demonstration from the beginning, never considering the possibility of Kane succeeding, after all, Kane's reputation for being eccentric was well-known.
Before this, Luna Lovegood of the Lovegood family, another eccentric family in the wizarding world, had always been known as the most eccentric wizard in wizarding social circles. It was originally thought that she would inherit this title forever, but then last year, when Kane enrolled in school...
Kane came into the wizards' view, and from that moment on, Luna's reputation for madness was stripped away. In the eyes of busybodies, Luna's madness was merely a clumsy imitation of Kane.
Of course, Professor Sprout wouldn't just use a slightly derogatory term like "crazy" to describe the young wizards. He simply thought that Kane and Luna, the two young wizards, hadn't finished their animistic phase yet, so this boring world was colorful in their eyes.
It wasn't until Kane reached out and touched the plant, and after Kane showered it with praise, that it actually perked up.
"Huh?" Professor Sprout quickly squatted down as well; she really hadn't expected it to actually work.
After all, this was the first time Professor Sprout had ever seen a situation that was neither scientifically sound nor very magical.
"So that's how it can be done?" she murmured as she approached another plant, gently stroking it. "You're such a wonderful plant. I want to give you all the sunshine and rain."
Immediately, another Forget-Me-Not plant sprang to life.
And so, if an outsider were to enter the greenhouse at this moment, they would certainly see this scene.
Two wizards, one older and one younger, squatted by the edge of the farmland and began praising the plants enthusiastically. Considering the younger wizard was Kane...
Then the Ministry of Magic will definitely send someone to take Kane into custody the next day, because they may have discovered that Kane's madness is contagious.
That's terrifying.
After some time, the two of them, panting heavily, returned to the stone path in the center of the greenhouse and sat down.
"Ah, this is the first time I've ever seen such a capricious magical plant. Have you seen this kind of plant before? Do you often praise them like this?" Professor Sprout asked Kane.
"More or less, probably once or twice a day?"
Just as Professor Sprout looked worried, Kane quickly added, "You can also play music for them; they'll be very happy that way."
"Is any kind of music acceptable?" Professor Sprout asked.
"Pretty much, but based on my experience, they're quite picky about the tools for playing music. Actually, if there's no music, killing that fruit fly king on the dome should be fine. Killing that thing will leave behind a kind little fruit fly that can help us take care of these herbs."
"If there are other ways, that would be even better." Professor Sprout said, taking out his wand and pointing it at the fruit fly that Dumbledore had imprisoned in the sky. After freeing it, he used magic to pull it down.
"Professor, I'll handle this." Kane swiftly drew his wand and swung a shadow blade, slicing the Fruit Fly King in two.
Soon, a small red fruit fell from the corpse of the fruit fly king.
"This is it." Kane picked up the small red fruit and threw it in the center of the ground. Soon, a cute and kind-looking little fruit fly flew in from somewhere and started flying over the farmland. When it saw any unhappy or droopy plants, it would fly over and start coaxing the plants in a language that humans couldn't understand.
Kane and Professor Sprout were stunned as they watched the plants standing upright one after another.
That's great! I finally don't have to go down there and foolishly praise those plants anymore.
"Alright, Kane, that's enough for today. Let's all go back and get some rest." Professor Sprout stood up and led Kane out of the greenhouse. Kane went straight to the bathroom to take a shower and wash off all the dust before returning to his warm little tent.
Wednesday arrived in the blink of an eye. This morning, some young wizards in the Gryffindor common room were excited, while others were somewhat helpless.
The excited ones were Lockhart's fans in the second year, because according to the first-year students, Lockhart's teaching was quite good, and the content he taught was similar to Snape's. The frustrated ones were some well-informed young wizards who knew exactly what kind of person Lockhart was.
This also includes Kane. Lockhart had previously said he wanted to learn magic from him, but he only took the first lesson in his first year and then stood him up. It's hard not to find it strange that this was a deliberate act of revenge.
And so, with a slightly uneasy feeling, Kane followed the group to the Defense Against the Dark Arts office. He really wanted to know what kind of amazing thing Lockhart would do to him.
