Chapter 174 The Unexpected Puppet
Chapter 174 The Unexpected Puppet
With Chiyo's defeat, the Sunagakure army began to collapse completely.
"Cover Lady Chiyo's retreat!"
Ebizo waved his scroll, directing his remaining troops to build the last line of defense at the mouth of the canyon.
The Sand Village's strategist was now covered in dust, his usual composure long gone.
"Trying to leave?"
A streak of silvery-white lightning refracted across the battlefield.
Sakumo Hatake's figure left afterimages in the eyes of the Sand Ninja.
"Konoha Style: Fang Thrust!"
The short sword slashed through the air, tearing it apart with a sharp whistling sound.
Ebizo only saw a flash of white light before his eyes, and before the puppet in his hand could even set up a defense, it was severed along with the chakra threads by that slash.
The cold blade stopped in front of Ebizo's throat; just one inch further and it would sever his carotid artery.
"Ebizo, surrender."
Shuo Mao's voice was calm.
The surrounding Sand Ninja tried to rush to their aid, but were firmly suppressed by the Konoha Ninja who arrived later.
Ebizo looked at the blood-stained dagger, gave a bitter smile, and released the kunai from his hand.
With Ebizo captured, the defeat of Sunagakure became inevitable.
Chiyo, with her remaining main force, fled back to the Land of Wind in a sorry state.
……
Late at night, at the Konoha front-line command post.
The once bustling battlefield fell silent, save for the occasional sound of patrolling ninja footsteps.
Sakumo Hatake sat alone in the tent, carefully wiping the white dagger in his hand by the flickering candlelight.
"Now that you're here, don't hide it."
Sakumo didn't stop what he was doing, and he didn't even raise his head. He just said something to the shadow in the corner of the tent.
There was no response from the shadows.
"Whoosh!"
Suddenly, countless black iron filings shot out from the shadows like a torrential rain, instantly coalescing into a giant black spear that pierced straight into Shuo Mao's back.
"Magnetic escape?"
Sakumo's eyes narrowed, and his body reacted instantly.
He didn't turn around, but instead gripped the knife in the back of his hand and swung it sharply backward.
"clang!"
The short sword clashed with the iron-sand spear, sparks flying everywhere.
Using the momentum, Sakumo slid sideways, creating distance, and locked his gaze on the figure emerging from the shadows.
He was a red-haired boy who looked only thirteen or fourteen years old. He had delicate features, but his face was very pale.
Behind him floated a humanoid puppet shrouded in a black robe.
"child?"
Sakumo frowned; he could sense that the boy's chakra fluctuations were very strong.
"Sakumo Hatake".
The boy's voice was hoarse, filled with a deep-seated hatred.
"Finally... I've met you."
"Who are you?" Sakumo asked.
"scorpion."
The boy twitched his fingers slightly, and the chakra threads connected to the puppet behind him.
"I'm here to take your life, just like you took my parents' lives back then."
Sakumo's pupils contracted slightly. More than ten years ago... a red-haired boy.
Scorpion's parents...
It was the Sand Village puppeteer couple who died by his blade.
"I see."
Sakumo's eyes became complicated.
"You are the child of those two people, Chiyo's grandson."
"Shut up! You're not qualified to mention them!"
The scorpion roared and suddenly spread its ten fingers wide.
"Die!"
The black-robed puppet behind him suddenly lifted its robe, revealing its true form.
For the first time, Sakumo's expression showed shock.
The puppet had deep blue hair, and although it had been modified into a machine, its face and the unique magnetic chakra fluctuations...
"The Third Kazekage?!"
Sakumo stared at the puppet in disbelief.
"So that's how it is... So you were the one who caused Kazekage's disappearance."
"This is my most perfect work of art."
Scorpion sneered and flicked his fingers.
"Magnetic Release: Iron Sand Rain!"
The puppet opened its mouth, and countless tiny iron sand particles condensed in the air, turning into a black rain that covered the entire tent space.
This is the power of the Third Kazekage, known as the strongest in history, and under Sasori's control, its power is no less than before.
Faced with this overwhelming attack, Sakumo did not back down.
His eyes instantly became incredibly clear, and the white fang dagger in his hand shone with a dazzling lightning-style light.
"If it were before, I might have felt guilty for causing this war by killing your parents."
Shuo Mao's figure transformed into a white lightning bolt, weaving through the dense rain of iron sand.
The iron filings grazed his cheeks and tore through his armor, but he didn't stop for a moment.
"but……"
After the public opinion incident, he became even more determined to protect it.
"If I hadn't killed your parents that day, it would have been my comrades who died, and it would have been the future of Konoha."
"Clang!"
Sakumo's figure suddenly appeared in front of Sasori, his short sword blocking the iron sand spear shot out by the Third Kazekage puppet.
"Whether it's hatred or sin."
Looking at Sasori so close to him, Sakumo's eyes showed no remorse, only the unwavering resolve of a guardian.
"To protect those I want to protect, I will never regret swinging this sword, no matter how many times!"
"Konoha Style Secret Technique: Slash!"
The white chakra light surged, instantly engulfing the black iron sand.
"Snap!"
The Third Kazekage's puppet's formidable defense was cleaved open with a single strike, along with the chakra threads Sasori used to control it.
Scorpion only felt a blur before his eyes, and a cold dagger was already pressed against his neck.
All movement came to an abrupt halt.
The iron filings got out of control and scattered all over the ground.
Scorpion stared wide-eyed at the man before him.
His prized puppet couldn't even last three rounds against this man's swordsmanship.
"Kill me."
Scorpion gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with resentment.
"I have nothing to say if I'm not as skilled as others."
Sakumo looked at the boy with eyes full of hatred, but did not bring down the knife in his hand.
He slowly sheathed his sword.
Sakumo shook his head and glanced at the Konoha ninjas outside the tent who had already been alerted.
"I won't kill you, but I can't let you go either."
He pointed to the third generation Kazekage puppet on the ground.
"This is irrefutable evidence that you killed the Kazekage, and you are the grandson of Chiyo, the elder of Sunagakure."
"Plus Ebizo, whom we caught during the day..."
Sakumo turned around and looked at the dark night sky outside the tent.
"One is Chiyo's younger brother, one is Chiyo's grandson, and the other is the deceased Kazekage."
"With these bargaining chips, Sunagakure should be happy to sit at the negotiating table and listen to Konoha's terms."
Scorpion watched Sakumo's retreating figure. That man had not killed indiscriminately out of hatred, nor had he hesitated out of guilt.
He stood there, like an insurmountable mountain.
"Take him away and keep a close watch on him."
Sakumo waved to his subordinates who rushed in.
"Don't let him die, and don't let him escape; this is the key to ending the war."
The ANBU quickly stepped forward and put chakra-suppressing shackles on Sasori.
As Scorpion was being led away, he glanced back at Shuo Mao.
He was gently wiping the iron filings off the blade.
