Chapter 37 Farewell, Zhang Village
Chapter 37 Farewell, Zhang Village
The message brought by the hawk was simple and resolute: although the situation on the front line had stabilized, the village was short of manpower, and the report about Uchiha Fugaku needed further verification from the person involved and his teammates.
The Hokage orders: Minato Namikaze and Toru Nishikawa, return to the village immediately.
In the early morning, the rain outside was still drizzling, and the atmosphere of parting made the originally cozy breakfast somewhat difficult to swallow.
"Do you really have to leave?"
Xiao Nan put down the bowl in her hand, her voice somewhat dejected.
Over the past six months, she has truly come to regard these two boys from Konoha as family.
"There's nothing we can do; we're ninjas from Konoha."
Although Minato Namikaze had a smile on his face, there was a hint of reluctance in his eyes.
He reached out and ruffled Xiao Nan's hair: "Besides, you're not the same children who could only cry anymore. I believe you can take care of yourselves even without us."
Jiraiya leaned against the cave entrance, looking at the rain outside, and said with his back to the group, "I will stay here for a while longer, until the three of you can truly stand on your own, until I feel you are ready to graduate."
Hearing that Jiraiya-sensei would stay, the three children calmed down a little.
Nishikawa Tetsu quietly packed his backpack, then walked up to Yahiko and handed him a thick notebook.
"What's this?" Yahiko took the notebook, flipped it open, and looked inside. It was filled with words and charts.
"These are the 'Rain Country Business Development Plan' and the 'Penicillin Production Process Specification'."
Nishikawa Tetsu solemnly instructed:
"Yahiko, you are the leader of Akatsuki. Remember, passion can get you started, but only reason can take you far. Follow this plan, steadily build an economic foundation, don't rush into expansion, and don't easily believe the promises of major powers."
"If you encounter any insurmountable difficulties..." Nishikawa Tetsu pointed to the last page of the notebook, "There's the secret code between Minato and me in Konoha. Remember to contact us."
"Teru..." Yahiko clutched his notebook tightly, his eyes reddening, but he forced himself not to cry and nodded firmly. "Don't worry! Next time we meet, I'll show you a completely new Rain Country!"
Nishikawa Tetsu nodded. He helped these teenagers not only to change their tragic fate, but also to make money, as he received a share of the profits from the medicines he sold.
As we all know, scientific research is very expensive.
Then he turned and walked toward Nagato, who had remained silent.
The red-haired boy had his head down, his Rinnegan hidden in the shadow of his bangs, making his expression impossible to discern.
"Nagato".
Nishikawa Tetsu shouted.
Nagato raised her head, her eyes filled with confusion and reluctance.
Nishikawa Tetsu glanced at Jiraiya and the others not far away, then leaned close to Nagato's ear and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear: "Nagato, listen carefully. Your eyes possess the power to change the world, but they will also attract countless demons who covet them."
"You must, you must stay true to yourself, and protect Yahiko and Minami."
After saying that, Nishikawa Tetsu patted Nagato on the shoulder and handed him the last bag of candy.
"Take care of yourself."
Nagato clutched the candy tightly. Although he didn't understand what Nishikawa Tetsu meant, he etched those words into his mind.
Moreover, even if he didn't say it, he would still protect Yahiko and Minami, his two precious family members.
"Alright, it's almost time."
Jiraiya turned around and looked at his two disciples.
"Minato, Tetsu."
"Teacher." The two stood up straight.
"Be careful on your way back. Although the main force has retreated, there are still quite a few bandits." Jiraiya, usually carefree, had eyes full of affection at this moment. "When you get back to the village, please give my regards to the old man... and to the Third Hokage. Also, tell Tsunade and Orochimaru that I'll be staying for a while longer, but those two probably aren't in the village either."
"Understood, teacher," Minato replied with a smile.
"And then there's Fugaku..." Jiraiya paused, "His situation might not be good. When you get back, if you can help him out, do so as much as you can. After all, he's a comrade who's been through thick and thin with you."
If it were anyone else, Jiraiya probably wouldn't have said that.
Two commoners can help the Uchiha clan? That's a complete joke.
But his two disciples were truly different, not only in terms of their strength as ninjas, but also in their mindset, which was unlike that of other children.
"Don't worry, Jiraiya-sensei." A glint of light flashed in Nishikawa Tetsu's eyes. "We won't let Fugaku-senpai be bullied."
……
The rain has stopped, or perhaps it has only paused temporarily for this moment.
Minato Namikaze and Tetsu Nishikawa stood at the foot of the hillside, carrying their packs.
Above, Jiraiya, along with Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato, are waving goodbye.
"Goodbye!! You must come again!!" Yahiko's loud voice echoed through the valley.
"Take care!!" Minato waved vigorously.
Nishikawa Tetsu took one last look at the cave and at the three figures who would one day stir up a storm in the ninja world.
He has slightly altered the course of history.
"Let's go, Minato."
Nishikawa Tetsu turned around and never looked back.
"Our battlefield is in Konoha."
……
a few days later.
The gate of Konohagakure, the Land of Fire.
The long-awaited sunlight shone on the massive green gate, making the character "安" (peace/safety) on the doorframe seem especially welcoming. Compared to the gloom of the Land of Rain, Konoha's prosperity and peace seemed like another world altogether.
"Finally... I'm back."
Minato Namikaze took a deep breath, looking at the familiar streets and the three heads on the Hokage Rock in the distance, a relaxed smile appearing on his face.
"Yes, I'm back."
Nishikawa Tetsu watched the villagers and ninjas coming and going through the gate, but he keenly sensed that beneath this peaceful facade, there seemed to be an undercurrent that was not easily detected.
The ninjas guarding the gates are checking things much more strictly than before, and the number of ANBU patrolling the streets has also increased.
"It seems the storm brought by Fugaku-senpai's eyes has already begun to blow," Nishikawa Tetsu said in a low voice.
"What?" Minato didn't hear clearly.
"It's nothing, I just mean, it's time to go get some barbecue." Nishikawa Tetsu smiled.
However, before they could even step through the gate, two masked ANBU ninjas appeared before them like ghosts.
"Minato Namikaze, Toru Nishikawa."
The voice of the ANBU member was flat and cold, mechanical: "The Hokage has ordered that you report to the Hokage Building immediately upon returning to the village, without delay."
Minato and Nishikawa Tetsu exchanged a glance.
They weren't even allowed to go home; they were taken directly to the Hokage Building.
It seems that the higher-ups in Konoha are getting impatient.
"clear."
