Chapter 23 Clash
Chapter 23 Clash
"There are some things Oswald hasn't made clear yet."
Qin Wei tried to trick Charlie into coming back to the house, but unfortunately Charlie didn't fall for it.
"It's late, let's talk about it tomorrow," Charlie said, unmoved. Oswald had already told him a lot, and the evidence was enough to satisfy him.
Seeing that the other person was about to step out of the house, Qin Wei was extremely anxious.
The fake Harvey was tall and strong; if he were to run out the door, he wasn't confident he could control him.
Fortunately, Qin Wei quickly pieced together his thoughts and figured out who was behind it all.
If the other party is truly working for that fox, then we'll have to drop some bombshells.
"Is that so? What a pity. I was originally planning to hand over the evidence of Maronny's crimes that I had." Qin Wei feigned withdrawing his hand, a strategic maneuver, a retreat to advance. If he appeared too eager, the other party might easily sense something was amiss.
Qin Wei's concerns were not unfounded; Charlie was a professional conman.
Especially when he brushed past Qin Wei on the stairs, his sixth sense vaguely told him that the other party might be a troublesome guy.
Now all he wants is to get out of this uncomfortable building as soon as possible.
But then Qin Wei dropped a bombshell.
The boss's criminal evidence? Good heavens, they actually possess such a dangerous thing! Charlie almost wavered upon hearing this.
Charlie watched Qin Wei leave, his hand gripping the doorknob tightly.
"If I just go back like this, will my boss blame me for not getting the crucial evidence? What if they've already handed the evidence over to the Gotham City Police Department, and I didn't notify my boss? Will I be held accountable...?"
"But what if it's a fake? What if he's already discovered my identity and wants to lure me inside to kill me..."
"Charlie, what are you thinking? Harvey Dent only took office this evening. Why would a lowly gangster have contact with him? Harvey and I look so alike, I'm sure I won't give myself away!"
What truly put Charlie at ease was Qin Wei's nonchalant attitude.
"If he really found out, he would have done everything he could to keep me here. Why is he acting so indifferent?"
Charlie consoled himself with this thought, his arrogance completely forgetting that he had previously used the same method to extract information from Oswald.
The full moon peeked out from behind the dark clouds, its pale light streaming through the door and onto the dusty floor.
Ahead of Charlie lay a bright, empty street, behind him a staircase hidden in the shadows. As he closed the door and chased after Qin Wei in the direction he had disappeared, fate had already laid its decisive piece.
"Could you briefly describe what the evidence is?"
Following behind Qin Wei, Charlie remained wary, trying to glean clues from his words. But he severely underestimated Qin Wei's ability to lie.
"About six months ago, Mr. Maroni asked us to collect a debt. We were greeted by a beautiful woman. When we arrived, she had white curly hair, wore a red dress, and had a priceless pearl necklace around her neck..."
Qin Wei slowed down his speech, rambling on and on, gradually leading Charlie back to the lair.
As Charlie listened, he finally realized something was wrong. Qin Wei was talking nonsense. When asked to talk about the case, he kept describing this woman, from her appearance to her clothes, and even her seductive voice was described in great detail.
Charlie pondered these descriptions and realized that the woman Qin Wei was describing was actually Marilyn Monroe!
"Damn it, he's stalling for time!"
Realizing the danger, he took off running.
But Qin Wei would never agree to that. He suddenly turned around and grabbed the other person's waist, causing them to lose their balance and tumble down the stairs.
Qin Wei was dazed from the fall. The first thing he did after getting up was to tackle Charlie to the ground while shouting for reinforcements.
"help me!"
The apartment lights came on, and Oswald, baseball bat in hand, leaped from the third floor. Qin Wei hadn't had time to tell him the plan due to the time pressure, so he had no idea what was happening.
One was his most trusted partner, and the other was Falcone's handpicked breaker. Now the two of them were rolling on the ground, writhing together like maggots in the mud.
Whom should we help?
Just kidding! Oswald would feel bad for Qin Wei if he thought about it for even a second longer. Without hesitation, he picked up his baseball bat and smashed it into the back of "Harvey's" head.
Ouch!
The first blow knocked Charlie unconscious, but Oswald wouldn't stop until Qin Wei called for a halt.
Blow after blow, until Charlie's head was a mangled mess of a watermelon, Oswald finally stopped, panting heavily.
Qin Wei let go, leaving the corpse limp on the ground like mud. His face and chest were splattered with blood.
It would be a lie to say you weren't afraid of seeing a living person die right in front of you, but panic and fear were useless emotions at the moment. If the current problem wasn't addressed quickly, Qin Wei and Oswald would be nothing more than two breathing corpses.
"Wei, what happened! It seems we killed Harvey Dent!"
Qin Wei picked up the golden wig from the pool of blood with two fingers and brought it to Oswald.
"Fake?"
"Yeah, if I hadn't met Harvey first, I probably would have been fooled by him too. That damn Maroni's got some skills!" Qin Wei cursed as he bent down and began to search the corpse.
"You said this fake Harvey was sent by Maroni, so could we hand over his corpse as the real one to curry favor?" Oswald had a bold idea. This way, they wouldn't have to hide it and could also disgust Maroni.
"That's what I thought at first too, but only if this guy didn't bring any recording equipment, like this..."
Qin Wei pulled a voice recorder from the inside pocket of the corpse's coat. The red dot on the pen was still flashing, indicating that it was still working.
This is the worst possible outcome. Qin Wei must dispose of the recording pen, which would prevent him from continuing his act in front of Maroni, using the pretext of "loyalty" to kill Mr. Harvey Dent.
This fake Harvey is definitely following Maroni's plan to test his subordinates' loyalty. Once Maroni reviews his actions, the two will definitely be exposed.
"Two paths!"
Qin Wei raised two fingers.
"First, before news of our death reaches Maronian, we must make our escape."
After explaining his plan, Qin Wei couldn't help but laugh. The guys who had been chasing them a few days ago, whom Falcone called "owl chicks," were a group of well-trained assassins.
Escaping from their clutches is no easy task.
"What about the second way?" Oswald asked.
"We'll find a Harvey too; all we need is evidence that he left the Senate alive."
"Your plan is even worse than Plan One! It's the middle of the night. Are you going to just grab anyone on the street and say, 'Hey buddy, I have a high-paying job playing Harvey Dent'... Wait, you're not thinking of finding Harvey himself, are you?!"
What do you think?
Qin Wei pressed the battery and dialed a number. Harvey Dent's hearty laughter came from the other end of the line.
"Hahaha! Let me guess, have you received some news or are you in trouble?"
"Don't laugh yet, you'll have something funnier to laugh about later."
