Chapter 162 The Battle of New York Part 3
The moment Tony looked up.
They saw a Leviathan-like beast hurtling straight down from the sky towards their location.
Its massive body passed between several skyscrapers.
The metal plates scraped off rows and rows of glass curtain walls on both sides.
The shattered glass trailed behind it like a silver waterfall reflecting the sunlight.
The Chitauri army also has an assessment of the battlefield situation here.
They plan to prioritize eliminating Iron Man and Captain America, the two key disruptors.
"Something big is coming! Get ready!"
Tony raised his hands, maximizing the energy output of his palm cannons.
The light from the muzzle changed from white to an almost blinding blue.
Steve didn't say anything, he just fastened the shield back onto his left forearm.
He took a half step back with his right foot, lowered his center of gravity, and his whole body was like a spring compressed to its limit, ready to spring out at any moment.
Just as the two were about to confront the Leviathan head-on, a huge green figure descended from the sky.
There was no deceleration and no attitude adjustment before landing.
It smashed straight into the center of Levi's head, slamming his enormous body from mid-air onto the ground.
Inertia caused it to slide nearly 100 meters along the street, carving a deep and wide ditch into the asphalt road surface.
The paving stones and the underground water pipes were simultaneously lifted up, and water jets gushed out from the cracks.
Hulk stood up from Leviathan's head, grabbed the metal plates on either side of its head with both hands, and began to tear them apart frantically.
That layer of armor, capable of withstanding tank cannon fire, was torn off piece by piece in his hands, like cardboard soaked in water.
He found that tearing off the shell was not efficient enough, so he simply changed his tactics.
Raise both hands above your head, interlock your fingers, pull your entire spine backward from the waist, and then slam them down.
One punch, two punches, three punches.
With each punch, Leviathan's head sank deeper into the ground, and the surrounding buildings' windows shattered simultaneously from the shockwave.
He just kept throwing punches, showing no sign of stopping.
There was no change in expression on that green face, only pure and primal, unleashed rage.
"Hulk always makes people feel safe and secure in times like these."
Tony was suspended in mid-air a few meters away.
Watching that big green guy hammer a beast many times his size like a broken worm, he sighed with genuine emotion.
"That's not enough!" Steve yelled at him, his voice drowning out the creaking of the steel structure of a nearby office building that was slowly tilting.
"We have to find a way to shut down that passage!"
Hulk tore the Leviathan in half from head to tail, then casually threw the rear half of the wreckage onto the street next to him, knocking over a whole row of cars parked on the side of the road.
Then he stood in the middle of the still-smoking wreckage of the giant beast, spread his arms, and let out a deafening roar towards the sky.
"Hulk—!"
The roar carried far.
All the Zeta Swiss soldiers circling over the nearby blocks received the order at the same time.
They abandoned their pursuit of other targets, turned their aircraft around, and converged on the crossroads from all directions.
A dense formation of aircraft weaved between the buildings on both sides of the street.
This completely blocked all possible escape routes for Tony, Steve, and Hulk.
It seems that the Chitauri army's command system has made the latest tactical assessment.
We must eliminate these three most threatening targets here in one fell swoop.
"Hulk!" Hulk roared to the sky, slamming his fists together in front of his chest with a loud thud.
His feet ground against the ground, crushing the asphalt and broken bricks beneath his feet.
Driven by anger, all the muscles in his body swelled up again.
His attitude was very direct: whatever comes, he'll smash.
"This is troublesome, Hulk. You need to get angrier."
Tony said that, but he had actually readjusted the output ratio of the palm cannon.
Thirty percent of the reserve energy was transferred to the weapon system ahead of schedule.
"Fight!" Steve held his shield horizontally in front of him, the edge of the shield facing the nearest group of aircraft that were pouring out from the corner of the building on the left. His voice was completely flat from beginning to end.
"This is the only thing we can do right now."
Natasha and Barton rushed out of a nearby apartment building that had been half-destroyed by the bomb.
Natasha held two energy pistols in her hands, which she had stolen from the Chitauri soldiers.
Patton's quiver was empty, and he was holding a shotgun he had picked up from the ground, the barrel still smoking.
The two people joined the makeshift circular defensive formation back to back.
Five people, with their backs to each other and their faces to the outside, each staring in a different direction.
Overhead, a massive formation of Chitauri aircraft surged forth.
At my feet lay the remains of the Leviathan, still crackling with electricity.
The air was filled with a mixture of ozone, burnt metal, and blood.
Then thunder came from the sky.
A thick bolt of lightning struck straight down from above the clouds, hitting the very center of the five-person circular formation precisely.
The instant the lightning exploded, the Chitauri aircraft that were too close were simultaneously struck by the arc of electricity, causing their energy cores to overload and explode, bursting into a series of orange-yellow fireballs in the air.
When the lightning subsided, Thor stood in the center of everyone, holding Mjolnir, his body still wreathed in lingering arcs of electricity.
He twirled the hammer in his hand, his gaze sweeping over the cluster of aircraft around him that were regrouping.
The expression on his face was a brief, suffocating calm before a storm.
Even so, this bolt of lightning cleared out an entire airspace of enemies.
New Zeta Swiss soldiers continued to pour out from the exit of the spatial passage in the sky.
The speed and density at which they poured down from the edge of the hole showed no signs of abating.
Like an anthill that has been punctured, the number of worker ants will only increase and will never stop.
Just as everyone was on edge, bracing for the next wave of impact.
In the corner of Tony's helmet head-up display, Jarvis suddenly switched to a tiny auxiliary screen.
The marker on the screen is the entrance to the burger joint next door.
A street corner shop that was tilted halfway by the shockwave when Hulk smashed Leviathan.
The metal roller shutter door was blown beyond recognition, and only half of the signboard remained hanging on the door frame.
And right in front of that storefront that had been turned into a doorway, stood a figure that Tony could recognize even with his eyes closed.
He immediately launched into a tirade, his voice blasting from the helmet speaker, piercing through the continuous explosions and the roar of the Chitauri aircraft engines: "Lin, what the hell are you doing?!"
