Chapter 64 The Things I Ignored, The Darkest Thing Under the Lamp
Chapter 64 The Things I Ignored, The Darkest Thing Under the Lamp
"Nakamura, put down your weapons! Are you really going to rebel?!" a duty-bound security captain from the West Eagle Guard shouted sternly, raising his gun as well.
"Rebellion? Haha!" Nakamura laughed hysterically. "There are no countries, no companies here! Only survival! Might makes right, and whoever has the most power calls the shots! This is wisdom from the East, how could you stupid, armed cowards possibly understand this!"
"Damn it!" The security guard was furious, his face turning red. Several security guards from Xiying who were with him also raised their guns at the same time.
Both sides drew their guns and stood in a standoff, with conflict imminent.
That's enough.
A calm sound, yet with a metallic, grating quality, rang out, not loud, but strangely overwhelming all the noise.
Dr. Eric Sen slowly walked to the open space between the two groups. His expression remained largely unchanged, but his eyes, always hidden behind his glasses, seemed particularly deep at this moment. He raised his hand, making a "stop" gesture, a slow movement that carried an undeniable air of authority.
However, Nakamura clearly had no intention of obeying. At this moment, he fully embodied the Japanese tradition of overthrowing his superiors, a ruthless glint flashing across his face. "Doctor, times have changed. Here..." He turned his gun around, seemingly intending to point it at Mori, in an attempt to intimidate him.
However, he didn't finish his sentence.
Just as the gun was about to be pointed at Dr. Mori, Mori raised his right hand, the one that was always wearing a glove that looked like it was made of a special alloy and had fine metal wires connecting it, and pushed it forward slightly.
There was no sound, no flash.
Nakamura was hit head-on by an invisible truck. He screamed and was thrown backward, gun and all, crashing into the broken metal wall behind him with a thud that made your teeth ache. He then slid softly to the ground, his life hanging in the balance.
Before his restless accomplices could react, Dr. Mori merely flicked and tossed his wrist with an extremely slight movement.
"Bang bang bang!"
Those people were as if they had been hit by an invisible giant wave, thrown out in all directions in various postures, crashing into the control panel, the bulkhead, or other personnel, breaking bones and instantly losing their fighting ability.
"Fire!" In a moment of shock, someone instinctively pulled the trigger, and the bullet flew toward Dr. Mori, who seemed completely unprepared.
What happened next nearly froze everyone's blood.
Dr. Mori didn't even move his feet; he simply opened his right hand, which was covered by a metal glove, slightly in the direction from which the bullets were coming.
The bullet, about half a meter from his palm, seemed to hit an absolutely invisible wall in mid-air, making a soft but clear "ding" sound, before twisting, deforming, and falling into the dust.
The entire room fell silent.
All the commotion, arguments, and violent tendencies ceased abruptly at that moment.
People stared in horror at the figure in the center of the arena, at the metal finger sleeves on his hands that looked like crude toys, and at the inhuman, hazy yellow light that shone in his eyes.
Is this... still the same Dr. Eric Sen they know, the gentle and even somewhat rigid one?
Dr. Sen slowly lowered his hand, the yellow light in his eyes gradually fading, but his stern, cold, and condescending demeanor remained. He surveyed the silent survivors, his voice eerily calm, "This farce ends here. Return to your posts. Rick, rebuild the exploration team."
"Yes!" Security supervisor Rick felt a chill run down his spine and didn't even dare to look at Dr. Sen.
Mori glanced at the people around him again. Everyone lowered their heads, not daring to meet his gaze. Only then did Dr. Mori nod in satisfaction.
Dr. Mori seemed quite satisfied with the result. He walked to the main control console. Although most functions were disabled, basic lighting and internal communications were still barely operational. He turned on the internal broadcast system, and his voice was transmitted to every corner of the base through the remaining speakers.
"Attention everyone, this is Eric Sen. We have encountered an unexplained space teleportation event and are currently in an Earth-like planetary environment, preliminarily determined to be far from the solar system."
He paused briefly, allowing the news and the previous shock to settle in.
"Now, I order: First, all personnel must immediately compile and collect all available resources, especially fresh water, sealed food, medicine, and intact life support equipment. These shall be registered and distributed by the former logistics supervisor. Concealment and looting are strictly prohibited, and violators will be severely punished."
"Second, the technical team immediately made every effort to restore the internal life support system, assess the structural safety of the base, and compile a priority repair list. The medical team treated the wounded, distinguishing between those with minor injuries."
"Third, and most importantly," he emphasized, "we need to expand the exploration team. In addition to the existing security personnel, the team also needs professionals. We need to understand this planet, its day-night cycle, temperature changes, potential dangers, and... any possible water sources or other resources. Volunteers are welcome to apply, with preference given to those with wilderness survival experience, geological or biological knowledge."
Finally, his voice took on a highly inflammatory tone: "Though we are in the unknown, don't forget that we are 'Prometheus,' the elite who exist to explore the frontiers of humanity. If we can survive here, if we can find a way to contact Earth, even if it's just to send back a little data... every one of you here will be engraved on the monument of human civilization, remembered for eternity, surpassing all known explorers and scientists. Whether you are buried as a pile of unknown bones in this alien wilderness, or remembered as legendary heroes by posterity, the choice lies in every action you take next."
Although the last paragraph was somewhat hollow, it is undeniable that it awakened a sense of honor in many people as human beings. Coupled with the current environment and the strange power that Dr. Mori had just displayed, it finally forced the collective will that was on the verge of collapse to be forcibly united.
Seeing that a new order had been barely established, Erikson breathed a sigh of relief and returned to his room.
"What exactly happened, or rather, who did it?"
Sitting down, Erikson showed a rare look of exhaustion. Stabilizing the team was just the beginning; the key was how to survive on this unfamiliar planet. Of course, the most crucial question was what had actually happened.
This was the question that puzzled him greatly about his sister.
He thought of the two planets that had inexplicably crashed into the survival research base. If he had any doubts before, now he was 100% certain that it was man-made.
But who on Earth has that ability?
Don't underestimate him just because he's the manager of a survival base. Besides that, he's one of the most powerful figures in the world. He has a very clear understanding of the development levels of various countries and forces on Earth, and he also knows that currently, no one or organization on Earth possesses this kind of capability.
Just kidding. Controlling an asteroid to precisely snipe it and instantly moving an island beyond the Milky Way is an ability that is completely beyond his comprehension. Even during the height of the Atlantis civilization, it was impossible!
"Could it be...? Impossible, it absolutely can't be them!" He quickly dismissed his own theory. "They disappeared long ago. If it were them, the gene fragments in our bodies would have been activated by now. It's impossible that there's still no reaction!"
After thinking for a long time without any clue, he stood up, walked to his desk, opened a drawer, and took out a small metal box. "No matter what, let's contact headquarters first. The geographical environment and astronomical phenomena here all indicate that it is very likely within 5 light-years of Proxima Centauri. My life gauge should not be completely extinguished, as long as it is activated..."
The moment his hand touched the box, his expression changed drastically. He realized he couldn't move, and then he felt that strange sensation of being teleported again. "Why is it happening again..."
Before he could even cry out in surprise, his figure vanished from the room.
Lan Xing, Hu Biao said with a gloomy face, tossing aside the cotton swabs soaked in glue. "Lan Xing, I think I've overlooked something. Is this a case of 'blind spots'?"
