Chapter 205 Headquarters' "Panic" and Orders from the Highest Level
The lights on the entire island burned all night. The sounds of blacksmiths forging, the roars of pirates, and the booming of cannons firing intertwined to create a prelude to destruction.
At this moment, the Rocks Pirates were like a prehistoric behemoth sharpening its fangs. It hadn't even set sail yet, but the oppressive aura it exuded had already caused the entire New World to tremble.
Such drastic changes have obviously affected other forces in the world, such as the Navy, one of the forces that pays the most attention to the changes in the Rocks Pirates.
The atmosphere at Marineford headquarters was ignited in the dead of night by a blood-red top-secret report. The piercing alarm shattered the tranquility surrounding the holy site; it was the highest-level war warning, one that hadn't sounded over this "Justice" fortress for a full ten years.
The conference hall was brightly lit, almost blindingly so, and filled with the acrid smell of cheap cigars, as well as the heavy, almost solidified pressure emanating from the top experts.
The admiral sat in the head seat, his fists clenched tightly on the edge of the table. His face, etched with the marks of war, was now clouded with gloom. In front of him, a projection Den Den Mushi was displaying a huge map of the New World.
"Just now, the last three secret observation stations we set up around Hive Island have completely lost contact." Kong's voice was hoarse and deep, each word like a heavy hammer hitting everyone's hearts. "The last message that came back was only the piercing electromagnetic noise and a purple afterimage."
Sengoku, who was sitting on the left side of the long table, was still a pillar of the Navy Headquarters. He pushed up his glasses, and his intelligent eyes flashed with an unprecedented sense of solemnity.
It's worth noting that Sengoku's ridiculously thick dark circles under his eyes prove the immense pressure he's been under for the past six months, and even the quality of his sleep.
Fortunately, Sengoku seemed to be in much better shape, at least he didn't react so strongly to the mere mention of Brian's name or the sight of his picture.
Is that really the case?!
"It's not just a simple intelligence blackout, Marshal," Sengoku analyzed in a deep voice. "According to feedback from the magnetic field observation device, the area within a hundred miles of Beehive Island is covered by an unknown, high-intensity energy field. Lockes is trying to completely cut off all external sight and hearing; he's providing final cover for some massive military operation."
Sengoku's words abruptly silenced the whispers in the conference room. All eyes turned to the center of the nautical chart, to the black and red dot representing chaos and evil.
"Is that madman Rocks going to attack Marineford? Or is he finally planning to start a full-scale war between those major powers?" A vice admiral couldn't help but stand up, his voice sharp with tension.
"He wouldn't dare! If he really dares to come to Marineford, I'll smash his head into the earth's crust with my iron fist!" Garp, in the prime of his life, sat to the side, still chewing on a donut, but his eyes revealed a violent fighting spirit that made people afraid to look directly at him.
"Garp, this isn't the time for individual heroism." Sora slammed his hand on the table, shattering a nearby porcelain coffee cup. "You know better than anyone how terrifying Rocks is. That crew's current strength has surpassed all our previous definitions of what a pirate crew is."
"Newgate, Skeeter, Linlin—and that Brian who only recently displayed terrifying abilities." Kong surveyed the entire room, his tone chilling. "This group of monsters, when gathered together, could wipe out a superpower in a single day."
There are very few superpowers in the entire world, those with the strength of generals or even a sufficient number of lieutenant generals to protect them!
The mention of the name "Brian" brought a brief and eerie silence to the meeting room.
This is a variable that gives the Navy Intelligence Department a major headache. Those war weapons known as "monster girls" have already proven their destructive power, which is beyond common sense, in several conflicts.
"What's most unsettling is that we still don't understand what Brian is thinking." Sengoku stared at the coordinates on the map. "He doesn't seem to have the same greedy desire for territory and treasure as Rocks, but everything he does is pushing Rocks to the altar."
bang~
Just then, the office door was suddenly pushed open.
A messenger, soaking wet and clearly exhausted from running, stumbled in, clutching the secret document from Mary Geoise tightly in his hand.
"Report! A top-secret order has been issued from the highest levels of the World Government!" the messenger shouted hoarsely. "Naval Headquarters is ordered to immediately enter a state of high alert! All active-duty admirals must assemble within two days!"
Kong's brow twitched suddenly. He took the document, the five bright red old man's seals on it particularly glaring, but after glancing at the contents, his expression became even more strange.
"An order for us to fully reinforce Mary Geoise's air defenses?" Kong read the document aloud in a low voice, "and simultaneously send a large-scale reinforcement of the naval fortress complex at the entrance to the New World, sealing off all possible sea routes leading to the Red Line?"
Upon hearing this order, the generals' expressions of confusion deepened. If Lox's main force was on Beehive Island, then their retreat to the Red Line was for defense; but this order sounded more like a precaution against annihilation.
"Fleet Admiral, do the Five Elders believe that Rocks' target is the Holy Land?" Sengoku keenly sensed something amiss. If it were just a normal pirate disturbance, the World Government would never issue such a near-mad defensive order.
Kong snorted coldly and slammed the official document heavily on the table: "Who knows what those high and mighty Celestial Dragons are thinking?"
He surveyed the room, his tone becoming resolute: "Regardless of Lockes' true intentions, since we've received a death order, we have no choice but to use all our resources!"
"Pass on my order! The preparations originally scheduled for a month later are to be terminated ahead of schedule! All heavy seastone cannons in the warehouses—move them all onto the ships!" Kong roared. "Those are our trump cards, which we've been preparing for a long time to wipe out the Rocks Legion. Now they must be put to use!"
At this moment, the Air Marshal was more anxious than anyone else. He could sense that the Navy had been "marginalized" in this game, and the real core battlefield seemed to have been taken over by the World Government's directly subordinate violent agencies.
Although he didn't know what had happened to the World Government, or rather, the Celestial Dragons, the oppressive feeling from the top of power was already being transmitted through the telephone line.
It was like a black hole, devouring all intelligence; the navy wasn't even allowed to approach that area.
