Chapter 119 The Gift
Chapter 119 The Gift
"This is—mine?" Loila looked at the gift in front of her, pursed her lips, and said with a hint of surprise, "Is it for me—mine?"
“Of course, Sister Hamilton.” Lupin nodded. “I think there should only be one Sister Hamilton here.”
He raised his right hand as he spoke, but then involuntarily gasped for breath because of the pain. "I'm sorry, Miss Hamilton, please forgive me for not being able to place it in your hands myself." He gently placed the gift on the floor.
"Ah—it's okay—it's okay." Loila's eyes were filled with nothing else. She stared intently at the gift. No matter what was inside, she would absolutely—definitely—keep it with her for the rest of her life!
This is the first Christmas present I've ever received from a friend.
Loila carefully knelt beside the gift and took a deep breath—she maintained a rather devout posture, as if she were about to open some secret magic book.
"There's no need to be so—so expectant," Lupin couldn't help but say. "It's just a gift, a very ordinary gift."
"No, no, no, no—" Roy quickly shook his head and said, "Even if it's just a stone, I will carry it—I will carry it for the rest of my life."
I doubt anyone would give a stone as a gift.
Lupin chuckled softly at her words—but wasn't that exactly in line with Miss Hamilton's style all along?
Loila, of course, had no idea what Lupin was thinking. Her mind was completely occupied with this gift—a gift from a friend! It certainly wasn't from someone like Dumbledore—besides, it was the first gift she had ever received from a friend.
You should know that when I received my first gift from Muller, I was so happy that I couldn't sleep for several days!
If I accept this gift from my friend, I might not be able to sleep for a month—but so what!
Loila took a deep breath, raised her wand, and gently tapped it, causing the ribbon on the gift box to untie itself.
Then, when faced with the gift box, Loila chose to open it herself by hand.
Slender fingers lightly rested on the gift box, then gently lifted it...
"Ah." Loila's eyes widened when she saw what was inside, and she couldn't help but bite her lip.
"Lupin—Mr. Lupin?!" Her voice even trembled slightly: "This is—"
"No need for that—." Her excited appearance made Lupin a little embarrassed—it wasn't anything valuable, or even rare, but after thinking about it carefully for a long time, Lupin really felt that this thing would be very useful to Miss Hamilton.
Loila gently extended her right hand and slowly took it out of the gift box.
It was a wide, deep purple wizard's hat, with a ring of pale silver patterns arranged around the brim, adorned with small flowers.
This is an extremely beautiful hat, so beautiful that Loila would never have had the courage to buy it in her entire life—and most importantly—
Loila also saw traces of a magic circle on the hat.
"There's a magic circle on this hat!" Loila felt like she couldn't breathe, and she had to take a few deep breaths to avoid suffocating.
"Hmm." Lupin nodded slightly: "This hat has a stretching charm—"
"No, no, no, no, this isn't the Unseen Stretch Charm!" Roy immediately shook her head firmly. "Look here—" She pointed her wand at the lining of the hat.
"This is inscribed with ancient magical runes at the center of a spatial magic array—and surrounding it are the Seamless Extension Spells!"
"This kind of magic circle can be used for a longer time than a simple spell, and it also covers a larger area—." Loila paused, "However, the creator didn't choose the best dye—"
She stuck out her tongue and lightly licked the lining in front of Lupin, then said, "It's a little bitter, but there's no rusty taste, so it's not Veela blood or dragon blood—it's Cornish elf blood—"
"This isn't the best option. Even without Veela blood and dragon blood, using Niffler blood is a good alternative, as they are highly adaptable to spatial magic arrays."
"Ah—sorry, sorry!" Loila seemed to realize something and quickly waved her hand: "I meant—I didn't mean—"
"It's not good—I like it very much!"
"And I seem to have—said it again—" Loila's voice trailed off as she hugged the magic hat, covering the lower half of her face, revealing only her somewhat timid blue eyes.
"It's alright," Lupin shrugged. "I'd love to hear you talk about magic circles."
This way, we can see a different side of Miss Hamilton.
Loira's eyes widened slightly, unaware of Lupin's thoughts.
Mr. Lupin doesn't seem to mind me talking about magic circles? He doesn't actually know much about them—wait—that's not the point—I received a gift—I should thank him! That's right! Thank him!
Loira's pointed ears twitched, and then she whispered, "Thank you—thank you—Mr. Lupin."
"Didn't you give me a gift too?" Lupin said, picking up the necklace hanging around his neck. "It even saved my life—"
"Wait—wait a minute—" Loila said, noticing the faint marks on the necklace, "Could—could you give me the necklace first?"
"Huh?" Lupin was taken aback.
"I can fix that magic circle," Loila whispered.
The magic-blocking array on Mr. Lupin's necklace has already been used, so I must re-engrave one for him...
Lupin instinctively wanted to refuse, but thinking of the magic circle's effect, he nodded and took off the necklace, handing it to Loira.
Seeing Loila take the necklace and examine it, Lupin coughed lightly: "Miss Hamilton, why don't you try it on?"
"Try—try?" Roy paused for a moment and blurted out instinctively, "I also have—a necklace—"
"I wasn't talking about the necklace," Lupin said, pointing to the hat that Roy was still holding.
"Ah! Sorry—sorry!" Loila picked up the hat somewhat awkwardly and carefully put it on her head.
She didn't think she was worthy of such a beautiful hat, and if it weren't a gift, Roy would never have accepted it—such a beautiful hat should be worn by a lady like Ms. Vida.
Instead of someone like myself—someone who seems like a child.
So she lowered her head shyly and whispered, "It must—it must not look good, right?"
"Quite the opposite," Lupin shook his head, "It suits you perfectly."
"It's just a bit too big—maybe it should be made smaller?"
"No—no need!" Loila grabbed the brim of the hat as if afraid Lupin would take it back. "This is—this is just right."
The large brim of the hat blocked more of her view, making Loila feel safer.
The hair seems to be a bit—a bit of a problem—the ears can be hidden under the hair, but—Roy touched his long, cascading silver hair.
It seems like I can't wear it during class—it seems like I can't wear it at all—
Watching Loila put on the hat, Lupin chuckled and casually asked, "So, Miss Hamilton, you were spending Christmas alone at Hogwarts, right?"
"Ah—" His words made Roy suddenly raise his head, his face full of embarrassment.
I seem to have forgotten about Luna!
