Chapter 11 Su Xiao Enters Tiancheng
Chapter 11 Su Xiao Enters Tiancheng
The continuous rain has made the air in Shanghai damp and cold, just like Su Xiao's mood at this moment.
Since being fired by Zhongjian and breaking up with Zhou Jun, she felt like the whole world had abandoned her. She had once plunged into the construction industry with great enthusiasm, hoping to make a name for herself with her professional skills, but in the end, she became the scapegoat for the Anju accident. She lost her job, her love, and even her proud cost engineer certificate was temporarily suspended for review due to the accident and she has not been able to get it back for a long time.
After spending two days in a daze in her rented room, her phone suddenly rang. Wu Hongmei's name appeared on the screen. Su Xiao paused for a moment before answering.
"Xiaoxiao, do you remember the last time we went to Nanjing West Road to help you try on wedding dresses, your veil accidentally fell off, and the handsome guy who picked it up for you?" Wu Hongmei said quickly, her tone somewhat excited.
Su Xiao paused slightly, a blurry figure flashing through her mind. She had only thanked him hastily at the time and hadn't paid much attention to it. Only now, after Wu Hongmei mentioned it, did she vaguely remember it.
"I think I vaguely remember this. What's wrong?"
"My God, I only found out today that he's actually Lin Chen, a partner at the renowned Jingshi Capital. He's a true investment banking elite! I saw him at the group headquarters today; Chairman Zhao personally led the way for him, and he was so kind, always smiling. I heard he's here to oversee our group's IPO preparations. He's so incredibly talented at such a young age!" Wu Hongmei exclaimed in amazement.
"Oh, really?"
But she felt nothing. The stranger she had met by chance was so different from her current situation; they were from completely different worlds. Her biggest concern now was how to survive and how to find a new job.
Hearing Su Xiao's calm voice, Wu Hongmei realized Su Xiao's current situation and had no interest in gossiping with her.
Her tone immediately turned somber. "Xiaoxiao, I'm sorry. I wanted to ask about internal recruitment within the group for you, but the group's focus is entirely on preparing for the IPO, and there are no vacancies at the moment. I really couldn't help you much."
She actually helped, but Maria, the group's HR director, disagreed with Su Xiao's entry into the interview because of Su Xiao's dismissal, and directly threw Su Xiao's resume into the trash can.
Su Xiao forced a faint smile, her tone as calm as possible: "It's alright, Hongmei, I know you've done your best, don't take it to heart."
Not long after hanging up the phone with Wu Hongmei, there was a knock on the door of the rented room. When she opened the door, she saw her father carrying luggage and looking worried. The grievances that Su Xiao had been holding back for many days instantly welled up in her eyes.
"Dad, what brings you here?"
"I was worried about you, so I came to check on you." Su's father patted his daughter's shoulder, not asking too many questions about the accident and the breakup. He simply went into the kitchen and made her a bowl of hot soup noodles. "Everyone stumbles and falls in life. It's okay, just get back up. You can find another job. Being healthy is the most important thing. Dad believes in you."
There were no accusations, no complaints, only the most sincere comfort and trust. Her father's arrival was like a ray of warm light, illuminating Su Xiao's gloomy world. She leaned on her father's shoulder and cried her heart out, releasing all her resentment, grievances, and confusion. After crying, she felt much lighter.
Her father only stayed for a day before returning home, repeatedly telling her to take good care of herself before leaving. After seeing her father off, Su Xiao completely pulled herself together, composed herself, organized her resume, and began frantically sending out job applications.
But reality dealt her one heavy blow after another. Every resume she sent out, every construction company in the industry, rejected her outright as soon as they heard that she had been fired by Zhongjian and was involved in a major safety accident at Anju. Furthermore, because her Level 1 Cost Engineer certificate was temporarily suspended for review and she lacked core professional certifications, she had very few interview opportunities.
She seemed to have been blacklisted by the industry, hitting walls everywhere she went. She visited companies large and small in Shanghai, only to be met with rejection and cold shoulders. Once a top student from a prestigious university and a promising cost engineer, she now couldn't even find the most basic job, and her life had fallen into despair.
To make a living, Su Xiao had to lower herself and stop limiting herself to the construction cost industry, taking a job at a small private company. Unexpectedly, the boss she encountered was a depraved pervert who deliberately poured water on her, forcing her to change clothes in the back room. He had secretly installed a camera in the room to spy on her while she changed, but fortunately, Su Xiao discovered it in time.
Su Xiao, with her fiery temper, couldn't stand it and immediately beat up the boss.
Unemployed again, she stood on the bustling street, watching the traffic, and once again doubted her perseverance. But the indomitable spirit in her heart eventually overcame her hesitation.
Just when she was almost in despair, an unexpected phone call completely turned the tide.
The caller was the chief economist of Tiancheng Company, a subsidiary of Yinghai Group, informing her that she had been hired by Tiancheng and asking her to report to the company the next day.
The unexpected good news left Su Xiao stunned for a long time before she reacted. Overjoyed at having something she had lost, she quickly expressed her gratitude.
The next day, Su Xiao arrived at Tiancheng Company early to report for duty and met Chen Simin, who had called her the night before to inform her of her joining the company.
This chief economist from Tiancheng was outwardly enthusiastic and spoke very kindly. However, the workstation assigned to her was in a remote and cramped location, directly opposite the toilet entrance, with a constant flow of people and a pungent odor.
They clearly treated her as a dispensable outsider, deliberately making things difficult for her and excluding her.
Looking at the absurd workstation in front of her, listening to the flushing sound coming from the toilet, and seeing the subtle glances and disdain from her colleagues, Su Xiao clenched her fists, her anger and resentment surging within her. She didn't know what she had done wrong.
Fortunately, the company's receptionist, Du Juan, was a likable young woman. She was straightforward, cheerful, and outgoing, which gave Su Xiao a bit of warmth.
Su Xiao didn't argue or cry; she simply returned to her workstation, took a deep breath, turned on her computer, and began working diligently.
She would seize any opportunity that presented itself. She was unwilling to be buried in obscurity, unwilling to spend her life at a workstation by the toilet entrance, and unwilling to let reality trample her professional skills and ideals underfoot. Even at her lowest point, she would fight with all her might to fight for justice and a chance for herself.
Unbeknownst to her, this job was secured for her by her ex-boyfriend, Zhou Jun. She also didn't know that Chen Simin had arranged her workstation near the restroom entrance so as not to offend either Zhou Jun or Li Xue.
She had previously written a whistleblower letter against Yinghai Group. After encountering numerous setbacks and injustices, she poured all her resentment, anger, and indignation at industry unfairness and workplace shirking into words. She sent this letter to the review team.
But in the end, Li Xue sent the letter directly to Zhao Xiankun, turning it into a storm that was about to hit her.
