Chapter 19 Trials Before Heading to the Golden Land
Chapter 19 Trials Before Heading to the Golden Land
"The way home is ultimately a journey you have to walk yourself."
After saying this, Duncan did not put down his teacup.
"But before that, there is one more practical question."
Duncan raised his eyelids, a glint of light flashing in his cloudy eyes. "Mahat's magic of turning everything into gold, do you have a way to deal with it?"
"...That's magic that can't be defended against, can't be avoided, and can't even be understood. If Mahat wants to turn you into gold, you'll instantly become gold. This isn't something that can be solved by willpower or swordsmanship."
"I have a way."
Lynn said seriously, "I have a special constitution, which you can think of as curse nullification magic. It's similar to curse reversal magic. Any form of curse will be ineffective on me."
Duncan frowned upon hearing this.
A special constitution that nullifies curses? Unheard of.
But he did know about the spell reversal magic, because he received it from Celia after becoming a first-level mage.
However, Duncan is a pragmatic person. As a seasoned veteran who has struggled in the quagmire of power, he only believes what he sees.
"Let's get back to the main topic."
Duncan stood up, straightened his slightly wrinkled robes, and said, "I am the guardian of the Viezer Barrier. It is my responsibility to stop any fool who might be courting death, especially a swordsman as excellent as you. It would be a great pity if you were killed by Mahat."
As he spoke, he grabbed the staff leaning against the wall and walked towards the door. "Come out."
"Let me see if you have the strength to stand up to Mahathir."
……
Outside the wooden house, the cold wind swirled the withered grass in the open space.
The golden city in the distance still shone in the sunlight, like a silent spectator.
Lynn and Duncan stood facing each other, a hundred meters apart.
This is a relatively safe distance for a mage.
Kraft leaned against the doorframe of the cabin, looking like a smug old man watching a good show.
"Go Lynn!"
Ellie excitedly climbed onto the large rock next to her, waving the rags she had brought from the wooden house.
Laofen sat on the threshold, her hands supporting her chin, looking at the field with some worry.
"The old man is serious."
Raofen seemed to be saying to Kraft beside her, "I've only ever seen him with this expression before, when we were dealing with the clone of Frillian."
In the field.
Duncan didn't waste a single word.
The instant Lynn's hand touched the hilt of the sword, he used flight magic, and his body immediately defied gravity and slowly rose into the air.
Five meters, ten meters, twenty meters... thirty meters.
It finally stopped thirty meters in the air, looking down at Lynn.
"mean!"
Ellie yelled, "If you're so capable, come down and fight Lynn one-on-one! What kind of skill is it to fly in the sky!"
Duncan glanced at the girl from afar and said calmly, "Using all advantages to defeat the opponent is the way of survival for a mage."
When facing soldiers, keeping your distance is an ironclad rule.
If you fly high enough, the sword in a soldier's hand is just for show.
Duncan knew this very well, and he wouldn't give Lynn any chance to get close.
"Let's begin."
Duncan waved his staff lightly.
hum-
The air vibrated.
Several jet-black beams of magical energy instantly materialized, whistling as they tore through the air, and hurtled straight toward Lynn.
Common attack magic, also known as killing magic.
Although it's a normal attack spell, in the hands of a mage of Duncan's caliber, its power is comparable to a siege cannon.
Lynn did not draw his sword; he simply touched the ground with his toes and slid three meters to the left like a falling leaf.
Boom boom boom!
The spot where he had just been standing was instantly blasted into several deep craters, with debris flying everywhere.
"They reacted very quickly."
Duncan calmly analyzed the situation from the air.
The young man made no unnecessary movements and was very perceptive of the flow of magic.
But not enough.
Duncan taps repeatedly with his staff.
The number of beams surged, from the initial three to more than a dozen, blocking all of Lynn's escape routes.
"How are you going to dodge this time?"
Duncan narrowed his eyes slightly.
Lynn did not dodge, but instead placed his hands on the hilts of his swords.
Clang!
The two swords were drawn.
The silver light traced perfect arcs in the air.
The incoming black beams of light were deflected the moment they touched the sword blade, shooting towards the ground and kicking up clouds of dust.
"It's blocked?!"
Laofen was stunned.
That was a pure magical impact, not a physical arrow.
Using a sword to block magic is like trying to catch a waterfall with a spoon; the usual result is that both the sword and the person are blasted to smithereens.
"It's not about blocking it."
Kraft squinted. "It's about cutting."
"Cut it open?"
"The moment the blade touched the magic, he injected magic of the opposite frequency, disrupting the structure of the magic."
Kraft exclaimed, "What a fine swordsman!"
In mid-air, Duncan raised an eyebrow.
Is that combination of brute force and skill truly something that human warriors can achieve?
"In that case..."
Duncan raised his staff high, and the surrounding wind elements began to gather wildly.
A sudden gust of wind arose.
A massive blue storm instantly formed, swirling the rubble on the ground into the air and pulverizing it in a flash.
"It's the old man's tornado that creates magic."
"You manipulate atmospheric flow to create a high-pressure storm," Laofen said. "In open areas, if you run fast enough, you should be able to avoid it."
"Then why didn't Lynn run away?"
Ellie clutched the tattered cloth, too nervous to wave it. "Are you paralyzed with fear?"
In the field.
Lynn definitely didn't run away.
The wind pressure hit my face, making my cheeks sting.
He lowered his center of gravity, his feet firmly planted on the ground, his right hand gripping the sword in reverse, and his left hand holding the sword horizontally.
The vision of the future flashed through my mind.
Three seconds later, the center of the storm will shift five meters to the left.
Five seconds later, Duncan will add another burst of flame.
"Right here."
Lynn charged into the storm.
"This is insane!"
Laofen jumped up from the threshold. "They'll be crushed!"
Just as he was about to crash into the wind wall, Lynn suddenly slid to the right, cutting into the edge of the storm at an angle that defied common sense.
That location is the node where magic flows.
Clang!
He swung his sword, and a burst of silver light erupted.
A neat crack appeared on the rapidly rotating wind wall.
Taking advantage of the wind, Lynn, like an eagle riding the wind, instantly covered a distance of tens of meters.
"It's been cut open?"
Duncan saw it clearly from the air and felt a slight tremor in his heart.
This level of sensitivity to magic is almost unlike that of a human warrior.
Since the wind can't stop you.
Duncan spun his staff, and the originally blue storm instantly turned crimson.
The wind turns to fire.
A wave of intense heat swept in, distorting and warping the air.
Fueled by the wind, the fire instantly transformed into a raging inferno, completely engulfing Lynn.
"Lynn!"
Alli screamed.
"Don't panic."
Kraft laughed, "It's not over yet."
In the middle of the sea of fire.
Lynn held her breath.
The high temperature scorched the skin, and the edges of the clothes began to curl and turn black.
His resilient body came into play at this moment; the temperature that would instantly burn an ordinary person was only a little hot to him.
As a level 5 mage, he can use defensive magic, but using magic without any medium will affect his concentration.
He combined his two swords and swung them forward with a fierce blow.
boom!
A path was forcibly cleaved through the sea of fire.
Lynn stepped onto the still-burning ground and burst out of the flames, now only thirty meters away from Duncan in the air.
"Soldiers can't fly."
Duncan remained calm, his staff pointing downwards. "As long as I don't touch the ground, you'll never be able to touch me."
The next second, dozens of golden lightsabers unfurled behind him.
The light of judgment.
This was pure magical bombardment, and one of his commonly used spells.
shhhhhh!
Countless beams of light rained down, blocking all of Lynn's paths of advance and retreat.
Lynn looked up at the rain of light filling the sky.
Future Vision is being launched again.
Three meters to the left, a blind spot.
Two meters to the right front, a blind spot.
It's all blind spots.
This wave of attacks covered all available space for dodging.
