Chapter 73 Test
Chapter 73 Test
Because of the small size of .22 caliber ammunition, it is not easy to distinguish the front and back of the ammunition by touch alone.
"This problem is relatively easy to solve. Applying fluorescent paint to the warhead will perfectly solve the problem, so that the front and back of the ammunition can be quickly distinguished not only during the day but also at night."
[Commander, there are no such reserves on board.]
Speechless, Lorraine tossed the magazine of his air rifle in his hand, but he was startled from his thoughts by the sound of the magazine falling to the ground.
"Got it!"
When Lorraine picked up the magazine that had fallen to the ground, she noticed the groove on it.
"We can lengthen the bullet body appropriately, and then open a groove in the rear 1/3 of the bullet body. On the magazine, we can open a groove on each side at the corresponding position to fix the bullet body. In this way, the bullet body can only be put into the magazine in the correct direction."
"However, the loading speed is still relatively slow, and this problem has not been completely solved."
Lorraine shrugged, speaking indifferently.
"If their loading speed is slow, they can practice more. I have already ensured their safety, and this kind of logistical work can be solved by them practicing more."
Lorraine shrugged and continued.
"I am just a manager or a ruler; I can't be perfect in every aspect."
Then Lorraine looked at Ouyang Nian.
"The design issues with the ammunition have been resolved, so can we now produce a prototype?"
"No problem, I can get it to you before dark, but..."
Seeing Ouyang Nian's somewhat embarrassed expression, Lorraine said...
"Cleveland, the design of the air rifle receiver is now in your hands."
[Yes, Commander. The installation of the anti-submarine system has been slowed down. We have sufficient available computing power to complete the design. Ms. Ouyang, please submit the relevant design documents.]
"Right away, Lorraine, you and Platinum can go ahead and get busy."
Ouyang Nian uploaded scanned images of the receivers of the air pistol and air rifle, along with the design requirements, to Cleveland.
Lorraine and Platinum returned to the cockpit and, referring to the shipyard map, began planning their nighttime patrol route.
Time passed slowly, and by the time Lorraine and Platinum finished planning the patrol route, Ouyang Nian had already brought the newly-made mechanical dog to the driver's seat.
"That's pretty fast! I thought it would take until sunset to finish."
"It was thanks to Cleveland's help that I was able to get the sample ready an hour ahead of schedule."
A black mechanical dog carrying a black and white air gun walked steadily in from outside the driver's compartment.
"This machine seems to be quite stable."
The 30-centimeter-tall mechanical dog can maintain the same gun muzzle direction when crossing a 10-centimeter-high threshold.
"When Cleveland was changing the behavior logic, they discovered that the robotic dog was designed with various functions from the beginning, such as patrolling outside the home and mobile monitoring."
"We've really struck gold. Let's go test his abilities on the aft deck."
Ouyang Nian gave commands to the mechanical dog through a portable terminal.
The group followed the mechanical dog, asking Ouyang Nian about its various parameters.
"When walking normally, it is at the same speed as a human walking, and when running, it is about 20 kilometers per hour. Even when running, it can still keep the gun pointing the same."
"Then how do we ensure shooting accuracy?"
Platinum asked the most crucial question.
"I placed the entire shooting system in the position of the camera on the back of the robotic dog, and all the wiring passes through there. The original camera was adjusted to serve as the aiming system for the firearm."
"This firing system can support the air gun on the back of the mechanical dog to rotate within ±45 degrees in the horizontal direction and has a pitch angle of ±30 degrees in the vertical direction."
"The air gun has a double-stack magazine with a capacity of 30 rounds, and can empty all the ammunition in the magazine within 30 seconds."
Upon hearing Ouyang Nian's explanation of the various parameters, the two expressed their praise for Ouyang Nian's abilities.
"It still has to be our chief craftsman, His Excellency Ouyang Nian."
"Hmph, that's for sure, it has to be me."
Hearing Luo Lin's praise, Ouyang Nian proudly raised his head, but he accidentally tripped over the threshold of the preparation room and almost fell flat on his face.
"Remember to watch where you're going."
Lorraine reacted quickly and caught Ouyang Nian before he fell.
While Lorraine was helping Ouyang Nian, Bai Jin took three steel targets and walked 25 meters away, setting them up separately.
Once the three of them were standing behind the mechanical dog, Lorraine asked Ouyang Nian to begin testing.
The robotic dog slightly raised its front half, and after the sensors on its head rotated a few times, it successfully locked onto three targets in the distance. Then, it lowered its body slightly, and the air gun on its back fired the lead bullets from the magazine at a rate of one shot per second.
The mechanical dog fires from left to right, firing 10 shots at each target, aiming at the chest and head respectively.
After firing, a red light illuminates on the mechanical dog's tail, indicating that the ammunition is empty and a reload is needed.
The three walked up to the target and observed the mechanical dog's shooting results.
"Accuracy is not a major issue, and penetration and stopping power have been significantly improved."
Platinum reached out and touched the deformed lead bullet embedded in the target.
"Test 1 passed."
Because there was no mobile firing range on board, the second test required assistance from Cleveland.
"Cleveland, please set the design goals for the robotic dog in real time using a completely random method."
[Understood, countdown 20 seconds, 20.19.18...]
The countdown ended, and Cleveland began setting shooting targets for the robotic dog.
The mechanical dog's firing system on its back rotates continuously, aiming at the target set by Cleveland and firing.
However, the firing rate has decreased this time, from one shot per second to about one shot per 1.7 seconds.
Shortly after, a red light appeared on the mechanical dog's tail, indicating the end of the test, and the target set by Cleveland was sent to Platinum.
Platinum, in conjunction with documents sent by Cleveland, conducted tests on the target.
"The firing rate is a bit slow, but the accuracy is acceptable, and the ability to judge danger is also fine. It is perfectly qualified as a mechanical dog responsible for patrol missions."
Just as Platinum was about to finish the test, Lorraine added a test item.
Have a support drone carrying a small steel plate fly in the sky, and then have a robotic dog attack the steel plate in the air.
"Commander, why are we testing the mechanical dogs' anti-aircraft capabilities?"
Lorraine answered as he attached steel plates to the support drone.
"Just in case, because we don't know if flying zombies will appear in the future. And this test is just to give me a basic understanding."
Cleveland controlled the support drone, which carried a steel target, and it took to the sky. The robotic dog walked to the aft deck and sat down.
