Chapter 7 Yun Yun's Unpreparedness
Chapter 7 Yun Yun's Unpreparedness
On Yunlan Mountain, Yunyun is speeding along at full speed.
Not long ago, she sensed her teacher's aura from afar. Unaware of what had happened, Yun Yun was overjoyed and immediately set off for Yunlan Sect.
No sooner had Yunyun arrived at Yunlan Mountain than she saw a black dot shooting straight into the sky. Upon closer inspection, it looked like her own Great Elder!
Wow, Elder, your speed is impressive. Could it be that you've made a breakthrough?
In a good mood, Yun Yun quickly chased after him and saw the disheveled Yun Leng barely managing to use his battle qi to transform into wings and stop his ascent. Yun Leng's face was covered in blood, his clothes on his back were already tattered, and his back was torn and bleeding, with not a single unscathed spot.
Seeing the Grand Elder in such a disheveled state, Yun Yun was taken aback: "Grand Elder, what happened?"
Knowing he had done something foolish, Yun Leng dared not say a word. He could only smile bitterly and say, "I failed in my duty and was punished by the old sect leader."
Seeing that Yun Yun wanted to ask more questions, he quickly cupped his hands and said, "The old sect leader is still angry, I must hurry back. Please forgive me, sect leader!"
After saying that, he flapped his battle qi wings and flew towards the council hall.
Yun Yun was even more bewildered by his frightened appearance. Her teacher was always protective of his own, and as long as it didn't affect the reputation of the Yunlan Sect, even if an elder made a mistake, he would usually let it go leniently, giving a symbolic punishment behind closed doors and that would be the end of it. What exactly had the Grand Elder done wrong to make her teacher so furious?
Yun Yun was completely baffled, so she simply followed the Grand Elder to the council hall.
As soon as she landed, Yun Yun saw the dilapidated gate in front of her, and two elders who had been slammed into the paving stones in the passageway behind it. She blinked subconsciously, wondering what had happened that made her teacher so angry. She had never seen her teacher so furious before.
"Yun'er is back?" Yun Congxin ignored Yun Leng, who had fallen to the ground in a disheveled state and knelt back down, and said to Yun Yun with a smile, "You've had a hard time during my seclusion these past few days."
Yun Congxin's words were laced with anger, and Yun Yun, who was at a loss for words, heard Yun Congxin continue, "Look at your disoriented state, what kind of behavior is this? You are the sect leader now!"
"Go sit in the sect leader's seat and take a good look at what the Yunlan Sect has become!"
Yun Yun remained composed, walking gracefully to the sect leader's seat and taking her seat with an air of authority.
As she passed by Yun Congxin, she looked like a little girl who had made a mistake and was still upset. She secretly pouted at Yun Congxin, and for just a moment, she looked aggrieved.
Yun Congxin coughed lightly. He knew that Yun Yun's act of being cute wasn't because she really felt wronged, but because she wanted to calm him down.
"Yunling, I'll ask you again: the competition among the younger generation is over, what were you doing?"
"I...I wanted that kid to give Yanran some leeway, so it would end in a draw. Afterwards, I could give him some benefits, as a favor my Yunlan Sect owes him. But who knew that kid wouldn't know what's good for him...I..."
"He doesn't know what's good for him? You're the one who doesn't know what's good for you!" Yun Congxin interrupted Yun Leng sharply. "It was I who intercepted your telepathic message. Don't you think about it? In broad daylight, with so many souls surging around, you just sent out a telepathic message like that? Who could you possibly hide it from? Is that Fa Ma just a useless bum? Or has Jia Xingtian gone senile?"
"Even that old bastard Hai Bodong can hear it!"
"Are you making a fool of yourself by going around in circles naked? It's not enough that you're embarrassing yourself; you want to drag my Yunlan Sect down with you?" Yun Congxin continued. "Xiao Yan has already won. In front of everyone, what are you trying to do by stopping him? What good will keeping him here do?"
"Does the Yunlan Sect not accept defeat? Does the Yunlan Sect lack even this much tolerance? In a fair and square competition, if the junior loses, the senior has to come; if the senior loses, the sect leader has to come. What if even the sect leader loses? Are you planning to call me out too, so I can also lose face in front of Jia Xingtian and the others?"
"I...I'm innocent! It was Ge Ye who reported that Xiao Yan killed my outer sect steward, so I only wanted to ask him to stay and cooperate with the investigation. Please, Sect Master, investigate thoroughly!"
"I think you're really senile! Regardless of whether that outer sect steward was killed by a mere brat who just became a Great Battle Master, even if he really did it, you can't stop him from going down the mountain!" Seeing that Yun Leng still dared to be stubborn, Yun Congxin was so angry that he slapped him, leaving a bright red handprint on his wrinkled old face.
"Why did they have to say this now, after the Yunlan Sect lost? Saying such things at this time, even if it's true, makes it seem like a lie. Outsiders will only think that the Yunlan Sect is abusing its power, using any excuse to detain people, and that we're a bunch of sore losers!"
"Where is the face of the Yunlan Sect? Where is the decorum of the Yunlan Sect? If word gets out, how can the Yunlan Sect possibly have the face to stand in the Northwest Continent?"
"I see that you, and all of you, have become too used to a comfortable life! Every day you see respectful outer sect stewards, and the first thing you see when you open your eyes is tributes sent from all over the country. You've heard so many nice words that your ears have gone weak, and now even your bones have gone weak!"
"They've become so short-sighted, only focusing on this tiny corner of the Jia Ma Empire, completely forgetting how glorious my Yunlan Sect was in its heyday, and how vast the Dou Qi Continent is!"
"A small temple breeds many demons, a shallow pond teems with turtles! Look at the state of the Yunlan Sect now, where is there even a trace of what is left that commands respect or admiration?"
"I don't want to say anything too harsh, but everyone here today should reflect on this carefully! Until you've figured it out, you are not allowed to leave Yunlan Mountain!"
Yun Congxin's instructions were just like Yunshan's back then; he only made demands without uttering any harsh words, and didn't even say a single word about "otherwise".
The reason is simple: it's unnecessary. You see, Yunshan has been in charge of the Yunlan Sect for far longer than Yunyun. Unlike Yunyun, who's practically become the elders' henchman, Yunshan has long held sway and is used to having the final say.
"They were merely accomplices; their seclusion was simply a mild punishment to serve as a warning."
"Yunling, you're the mastermind. I've been in seclusion these past few days, and I doubt Yun'er has managed as many sect affairs as you have, right? Tell me, according to the sect rules, what should be done?"
"...Disgracing the sect, stripping him of his battle qi, and expelling him from the Yunlan Sect..."
Yun Congxin glanced at him. Now, Yun Leng was old and gray-haired, having already dedicated all his youth to the Yunlan Sect.
Although incredibly stupid, he was indeed extremely loyal.
"...Alright, after all these years, even if you haven't achieved anything great, you've still put in the hard work." Yun Congxin finally softened. He said, "Remove your position as Grand Elder and demote you to the position of Library Guardian. Kneel in the Library at the foot of Yunlan Mountain for three years as punishment. You can have some peace and quiet there and reflect on your actions!"
"Thank you for your mercy, Elder Sect Master!" Yun Leng kowtowed.
"Yun'er and Nalan Yanran, stay. The rest of you, get out!"
